Spitfire Mk XVI TE311, the latest addition to the Memorial Flight fleet, is a low-back/bubble-canopy Spitfire with ‘clipped’ wingtips.

After a painstaking re-build lasting 11 years the aircraft was returned to an immaculate and extremely authentic standard, and it took to the air again, for the first time in 58 years, on 19th October 2012. Great credit is due to the Memorial Flight engineers, especially Paul Blackah – the team leader and the driving force behind the project – whose skills and perseverance have resulted in another airworthy Spitfire being added to the limited numbers of these iconic aircraft.

TE311 is painted to represent Spitfire Mk XVIe TB675 ‘4D-V’ of No 74 Squadron, the personal aircraft of Squadron Leader AJ ‘Tony’ Reeves DFC, the Squadron’s Commanding Officer from the end of December 1944. No 74 Squadron was part of 145 Wing, 2 TAF.

I haven't posted anything in a while! Been crazy busy with life, and flying all over the world. Anyway have a great week and thanks for looking! Here's a favorite shot from Death Valley a few years back...

“Human life is beset with ups and downs, joys and sorrows.

These experiences are intended to serve as guideposts for man. Life would be stale if there were no trials and difficulties.

It is these difficulties which bring out the human values in man.

Only that which is got by hard effort will yield lasting benefit.”

(Sri Sathya Sai Baba, 2 September 1991)

Today in the begining of the afternoon I was crossing the chawk of Varanasi (Benaras) and I stopped again for a short while at the flower market where the light and shades always provide a great chiaroscuro (clair-obscur).

Among many people there was this man selling marigolds, in a glance I could guess the trials and difficulties which bring out the human values in a man.

"Mute Swans form long-lasting pair bonds. Their reputation for monogamy along with their elegant white plumage has helped establish them as a symbol of love in many cultures.

The Mute Swan is reported to mate for life. However, changing of mates does occur infrequently, and swans will remate if their partner dies. If a male loses his mate and pairs with a young female, she joins him on his territory. If he mates with an older female, they go to hers. If a female loses her mate, she remates quickly and usually chooses a younger male.

Abellio London ADL E20D / Enviro200 MMC 8177 (SN17 MVZ) can be seen here passing Teddington Library on route R68 to Hampton Court. This route has been diverted from the stop at Mallard Place to Broad Street / Teddington via Waldegrave Park and Waldegrave Road. Taken 16/03/2023.

The Rudbeckia in the park are still looking good. Hopefully they will last a bit longer.

A freezing rain storm lasting all day caused a lot of havoc - there were widespread power outages, tree branches knocked down, entire trees fallen over, closed roads, and everything was coated in a layer of ice.

This image was taken right side up on a cedar branch and it was the odd formations that caught my eye. I'm still trying to figure out how the icicles formed like that - hence the title, "baffle ice." My best guess is that it was a wind blown effect. Any other ideas?

The colour in front of the rock was truly stunning..

Another lasting memory of my trekking trip in Nepal last year. Climbing up here was really fun. Elevation was about 5400 meters above sea level. The ascent is quite steep and although the crossing is not technically difficult it is necessary to take it slowly to avoid complications from altitude. Naturally, it was a slog as the air here is so thin, about 50% oxygen and I had to take deep breaths after few steps. The snow on the surrounding peaks and on the summit floor acted like a solar mirror directing intense sunlight from all angles... strange feeling, a combination of freezing air with burning sun rays. The background is towards the east of the Himalayan range and extends all the way to Sikkim, India.

I was struck by the mystery and symbolism of these stones, who they commemorate and if any memories remain which might explain their unusual intimacy.

Природа је запустила њега, али он се још некако и држи; није заборавио да је њен владалац. Он је запустио природу, али она се и без њега некако држи, гура. African Violet petals, so delicate but long-lasting!

African Violet (Streptocarpus sect. Saintpaulia)

There are about ten species of herbaceous perennial flowering plants in the family Gesneriaceae, native to Tanzania and adjacent southeastern Kenya in eastern tropical Africa.

This group of plants has lived in the biodiverse Eastern Arc Usambara mountains in Tanga province for millions of years. The name in the local Kisambaa language is Dughulushi. The Germans officially colonialized this area from about 1885. Shortly before this, Baron Walter von Saint Paul-Illaire (1860–1940) was made district commissioner of Tanga province, Tanganyika (now Tanzania) in Africa. He used to enjoy walking in the rainforest and they reminded him of the violets back home. He called them Usambaraveilchen (Usambara violets). In 1892 he sent seeds back to his father, who gave them to an amateur botanist, Hermann Wendland, in Germany. Wendland named the genus for Saint Paul-Illaire and his father

Saintpaulias are highly sensitive to temperature changes, especially rapid leaf cooling. Spilling cold water on African violet leaves causes discoloration (In my experience, it kills the leaf outright!).

I noticed that these leaves that are frozen to the ice on the pond at Hudson Gardens have been there for a while.....freezing, thawing, freezing, thawing. It's amazing that they have endured all the winter weather in the same spot!

I love taking photos... to capture fleeting memories. Moments that may appear insignificant at that time, but will leave an indelible mark in our children’s future.

In the centre of Iceland lies a region full of geothermal craters and pools. After arriving here to photograph this at sunset, my friend and I decedied to hang around a few hours in hope that the sunrise light would be better. It slowly got dark, we watched the northern lights dance around in a twilight sky for about an hour and then watched it get light again with one of most beautiful sunrises I have seen for quite some time. Made the short stay completely worthwhile and as soon as the colour had disappeared from this sky we got back in the 4x4 and drove on the three hours to the nearest signs of life. It really is amazing spending time in the remote highlands of Iceland.

SO!

This month starting from 10th and lasting until the 5th of the next Equal10 will be open! <3

Equal is one of the cutest events in SL i've ever been to, seriously :O

The place is huge, shiny and super pretty, a ridiculous amount of artists and creator have their booths there and you can find like SO many cute things!

Some time ago I've been asked by this cute initiative if I'd like to join their blogging team for this coming round.

Now...this is HUGE! :O and albeit I risked to mess it up by being my silly, un-experienced 'self x.x - I still somehow managed to take this change.

I'm honored to be part of this and to be put along with so many much more prolific and talented artists than me in supporting all this. I wanna throw a super, duper, gigantic THANKIES and hugs to ALL my great sponsors, my following here on Flickr and all the cuties giving me continue support and believing in me! And a particularly breath-taking tight hug to EVIE for contacting me and being so patient with me!!! <3

In the coming weeks I'll be working on this and trying to do my best! I really look forward to it and I'm, like... SO excited about this!

You should be too! <3

This full size replica is a lasting memorial to Windsor resident Sir Sydney Camm CBE FRAeS (1893-1966). It bears the markings of an aircraft flown in the Battle of Britain by Sqadron Leader John Grandy who, as Marshal of the Royal Air Force Sir John Grandy GCB GCVO KBE DSO KStJ, was Constable and Governor of Windsor Castle from 1978-88.

The Hurricane, Camm's best known design, first flew in 1935 and entered RAF service in 1937. Powered by the Rolls Royce Merlin engine, it was the first RAF monoplane fighter with an enclosed cockpit and retractable undercarraige. It was resilient, easily repairable, a stable firing platform, and highly manoeuvrable. In the 1940 Battle of Britain Hurricanes shot down more enemy aircraft than the combined totals of all other aircraft and ground forces. It was the only fighter aircraft to serve in every British theatre during WWII. Over 14,000 were built, many at nearby Langley, and it remained in the RAF front line service until 1947. The last Hurricane built was PZ865, which still flies today with the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

This replica Hawker Hurricane has now been installed at Alexandra Gardens, Windsor bearing the markings of 249 Squadron –R4229 and letters GN – J This was the aircraft in which Squadron Leader John Grandy was shot down on 6 September 1940 during the Battle of Britain. We have chosen it because of John Grandy’s later connections with Windsor. After becoming Chief of the Air Staff, MRAF Sir John Grandy was later Constable and Governor of Windsor Castle, eventually retiring to live in Windsor until his death.

The Hurricane was formally unveiled by the Mayor of Windsor at a ceremony on Friday 20 July 2014.

The plinth has been cloned out and motion blur applied to the propellor.
