These beech trees were planted back in 1835 by the then owner of Kingston Lacey Estate, as a gift for his mother. There are 731 trees in total with 365 on one side and 366 on the other, one for each day of the year. Sadly, many of the original, mature beech trees are dying from old age, disease, and environmental factors, leading the National Trust to undertake remedial work and plant more resilient hornbeams as replacements.

Our guides, from Guilin Photography Tours, setup an opportunity to go into some peoples homes on our first day.
It's one thing to be walking around an ancient village but something else entirely to be invited into a home and photograph people within their surroundings.
This lady, to me, was absolutely beautiful both in her appearance and in spirit. So was so welcoming when we came in and was so willing to be a subject for our cameras.
This is one of my favourite moments from the trip and one of my favourite shots from the couple of weeks that I was in China.

The Gretna starling display
The birds congregate at sunset, first in small groups and then in larger clusters, to form a mass of over one million birds creating elaborate shapes and patterns in the sky. Raptors such as sparrowhawks and peregrine falcons make an appearance to try and pick off a bird for supper. After an aerobatic display lasting for about 20 minutes, the starlings move towards a conifer plantation where they roost for the night.

Happy Truck Thursday!
This beauty was found in Murdo, SD as I tried t figure out the wording it says Spray Rush which is probably due to closeness of Mount Rushmore. An old Dodge truck.

Lagerstroemia commonly known as crape myrtle (incorrectly or less commonly spelled crepe myrtle, and often referred to in technical literature as crapemyrtle), is a genus of around 50 species of deciduous and evergreen trees and shrubs native to the Indian subcontinent, southeast Asia, northern Australia, and parts of Oceania, cultivated in warmer climates around the world. It is a member of the family Lythraceae, which are also known as the loosestrife family. Crape myrtles are chiefly known for their colorful and long-lasting flowers which occur in summer. Most species of Lagerstroemia have sinewy, fluted stems and branches with a mottled appearance that arises from having bark that sheds throughout the year. Flowers are borne in summer and autumn in panicles of crinkled flowers with a crepe-like texture. Colors vary from deep purple to red to white, with almost every shade in between. 8793

Is this a 20th Century moment or a 21st Century moment? It's hard to tell, but in fact it's the latter. There are many small rural communities that now remind me of scenes I witnessed during my time spent in Cuba. Many of these small rural communities in America are currently ravaged by poverty and drug addiction with no identifiable path out of the situation. We are a better people than this, and our elected officials of both parties in Washington would be better advised to cease the divisive rhetoric and general political posturing and dig into real and lasting solutions for homelessness, drug addiction, immigration, poverty, mental illness, suicide, and the proliferation of false news that is destroying America.

This capture is of friends of mine who came to my daughter's wedding. We had my daughter's reception in my studio and they asked for a photo to be taken in front of my abstract collage "The Wedding". Happily, theirs is a continuing romance, just look at their happy faces!

Molting is a process by which birds replace their old feathers with new ones. It usually happens once a year, beginning in late summer and lasting into fall.
Molting happens when the weather starts to cool down. Cardinals, in particular, have a very distinct molting process.
Molting starts with the head and neck feathers. The new feathers grow underneath the old ones. Then the bird begins to preen. This is when it spreads a special oil over its feathers that keeps them waterproof and helps them stay clean.
After the head and neck are done, the bird starts on its body. The new feathers push the old ones out until all the feathers are entirely replaced.
Cardinals molt in late summer and early fall. The phenomenal usually happens following the breeding season but can also occur during a time of surplus food when the birds can build up a layer of body fat to help them through the molting process.
Molting in Cardinals generally takes a month. A week after they lose their feathers, tiny new feathers will start to grow. The Cardinal's crest will return and be perfectly normal in a month.

The mute swan is a large, all-white waterfowl native to Eurasia, widely recognized for its long, gracefully curved neck and a distinctive orange bill with a black knob at the base. Despite its name, it is not completely silent and produces hisses, snorts, and grunts, though it is less vocal than other swan species.
Size and Appearance: Mute swans are among the largest flying birds. Adults have brilliant white plumage, black feet, and a prominent black knob (basal knob) on their orange bill, which is larger in males (cobs). When swimming, they hold their necks in an elegant 'S' shape, often with their wings slightly raised in a display known as "busking".
Habitat and Diet: They are found in a variety of aquatic environments, including ponds, lakes, rivers, canals, estuaries, and sheltered coastal areas. Their diet primarily consists of submerged aquatic vegetation, which they reach using their long necks.
Behavior: Mute swans form strong, long-lasting pair bonds and are known for their devotion to their offspring. They are highly territorial, especially during the breeding season, and will aggressively defend their nests and cygnets (young swans) from perceived threats, including humans and dogs.
Cygnets: Young swans are typically covered in greyish-brown down (sometimes white, in a morph called "Polish swan") and have a dull, grey-black bill. They grow quickly, reaching near-adult size within three months, and attain full white plumage and the adult orange bill by their second year.
Lifespan: In the wild, mute swans can live for over 20 years, with an average lifespan of around 10-11 years.
In Culture and Law
The mute swan is significant in human culture. It is the national bird of Denmark and a symbol of love in many cultures due to its monogamous nature. It is also the subject of the famous Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, "The Ugly Duckling".
In the UK, the British monarch retains the right to ownership of all unmarked mute swans in open water, a law dating back to medieval times. This ownership is primarily exercised on certain stretches of the River Thames through the traditional annual ceremony of "Swan Upping," which now serves as a population health check.
These two oak trees probably spent some years together on that field. This morning was very special - mist, fresh snow, hoar frost and a beautiful sunrise.

I found this old barn and shed in Wisconsin. I fell in love with the rural setting and the way the ivy climbed the silo. Even though the time of day was all wrong for proper lighting I had to photograph the scene. Textures help to mask the poor lighting and bring to life the aged quality of the barn and shed.

With colors popping all around the property it’s not hard to accept the changing of seasons. The light green color on the leaves this Spring is evident in the early mornings. With dew dripping from the leaves and the air so fresh and cool one doesn’t need a calendar to know it’s the “Arrival Of Spring” With all that’s going on in our lives today we should still give thanks for all the beauty we see and enjoy daily. No matter what season we’re in there is beauty all around us. Thanks for viewing my work. Don’t forget to “Wash your 🙏 hands.

Straw flowers are relatively pest and disease-resistant. However, they can occasionally be affected by aphids, whiteflies, or fungal diseases if grown in overly damp conditions.
By incorporating straw flowers into your garden, you can enjoy their vibrant colors throughout the growing season and beyond, thanks to their excellent suitability for drying and preserving.
Helichrysum bracteatum or Xerochrysum bracteatum, are popular in gardens for their vibrant colors and long-lasting blooms

There have been many incredibly difficult, long lasting seasons in your life. And with all the challenging, intense, long term, internal work you’ve done at a rate that is appropriate and healthy for you, you’ve been able to catch glimpses and notice sometimes the seasons collide—the painful, harmful, isolating, unspeakable seasons and the seasons filled with a little more support, safety, hope, some recovery, and ongoing healing. As you notice these seasons collide you are reminded that both the intensely painful and the healing seasons can exist together. Thank you for looking for the uplifting, encouraging moments among the devastating effects of your unspeakably heartbreaking experiences.

One day while at a local park I noticed the beautifully colored, fallen autumn leaves flattened underneath melting snow and slush that had tire tracks visible in it from being run over by a vehicle. This showed me a beautiful story that felt relatable to me and I was drawn to try to capture this meaningful scene I found in nature.
