That's Lake Superior and Ishpeming Railroad, for those who don't know. The dock's also known as Presque Isle and as Marquette Upper Harbor. It extends into Lake Superior near Marquette's Presque Isle Park and its purpose is to dump ore brought by the railroad from the local iron mines by the into ships.
If I lived in Marquette I'd be there every day during the shipping season (which ended last night, by the way).

I scanned a roll of film earlier today which seems to contain a couple days' images. On the first day I took a photo at the mine in Republic, then captured this one, then found my way to the top of Marquette Mountain (it's a ski hill) and took a couple pix from there. The second day was more ambitious, with several pics apiece around Escanaba's rail yard, at Republic's mine, and of a ship loading back here at the dock. On the whole I like this set so I'll be posting more over the next two or three days.
I'm guessing these were taken in July or August of 1990, but it could be some other early-90s summer. The film processor's packaging has no useful dates.
But a curious thing: Last May I scanned a similar roll of film. The photos aren't the same photos, but they were clearly taken at the same times and places. It's as though I was swapping cameras and duplicating every little photo session. That seems real unlikely--although I've long carried a pocket camera on outings, I really don't use it the same way I use my main camera. Nonetheless, it looks like I did that on this date.
Ah, mysteries.

[Extraterrestrial Rover - Long Scouting]
The ER-LS was among the least useful of rovers sent to Mars by the OFSI, but made a name for itself among crews there as fun to drive, a feature many others lacked which put it in high demand. This resulted in a manufacturing phase longer than many expected, from 2314 to 2326. The double cockpit made it an excellent observational vehicle, although most of the data for surveying was already completed. Many famous postcard backgrounds were shot from the upper canopy, as the crews had little to do after the terrain mapping project was completed. The twinjet core in the back supplied most of the speed for the ER-LS, but it was not recommended for continuous use on long scouting missions, due its high fuel consumption. The twinjet was the savior of many crews during large sandstorms, giving a quick and safe escape. Like most vehicles that OFSI Aerospace was involved with, control surfaces for short bursts of flight were a key element, despite inevitably being used for emergency braking. Each of these energetic features significantly contributed to its racing prowess on the martian surface, and the loss of astronaut productivity that lead to them being removed from funding and almost completely removed from Mars.

This was a super fun build, utilizing the remains of my abandoned Coptertank. I got most of the work on it done yesterday, so here I have it, all finished and uploaded! Super proud of how slick it looks, and unfortunately these pictures aren't doing it justice. Oh well.

The livery and the buses were the best things about the X99. The service never kept to time and rarely carried anyone as a result. Not a good experience of commercial operation.
243 lasted until 1993 and was then sold to Blue Triangle, and then to University Bus, finally meeting its demise in 1997.

The first-generation Lexus LS 400 made its debut when I was in high school. At the time, I thought it was one of the most beautiful sedans I had ever seen (and I am an American car buff).
I feel the style of these cars has held up unusually well.

This car took part in two races at the Vintage Sports Car Club's meeting at Oulton Park in May 2019. It's the 1935/37 Railton LS Tourer of Anthony Fenwick-Wilson and has an 8-cylinder inline 4,168cc Hudson engine.
E&LS 202 is a Baldwin model DS-4-4-1000. Built in 1948, it was originally owned by Calumet & Hecla mining company and worked on their railroad serving the copper mines in the Calumet, MI area until operations there ceased in 1968. It continued to serve the E&LS for many years afterward until being retired recently, still wearing the original C&H orange paint scheme.

This EFE Bristol LS is a special Code 2 commission by the London Transport Museum to mark the end of A-stock trains on the Metropolitan Line, and represents the related Aylesbury-Amersham route 359 jointly operated by London Transport and United Counties. The latter's 475 (JBD 993) was a Bristol-engined LS, new in 1954 as a dual-door bus but depicted after conversion for one-man operation a couple of years later; it was withdrawn in 1972 but served for another year as a training vehicle before disposal. Amersham was the southernmost point reached by United Counties buses, although the express coaches ventured further afield.
