The bright blessed days, the dark sacred nights

As seen at a bus rally in Essex.

Late on a wet morning finds the Lake Superior and Ishpeming "hill" job departing the yard at Eagle Mills, Michigan with ore loads enroute to the dock located on the north side of Marquette. We find U25C 2500 leading a pair of alligators all in the old iron ore oxide color paint scheme as the distant gang at the office looks on - November 9, 1978.

Don't just exist, live.

It looks like NSM has placed both "new" leased GEs in service after having run a combo of a MAC/GE earlier in the week. These two AC4400CWs are from a batch of eight leased by sister railroad LS&I in 2010 (six remain on LS&I). These will replace two CIT SD9043MACs that NSM has been using since early 2015. Here 1005 and 1022 eases 156 loads east toward Silver Bay, staying ahead of an approaching cloud line. I'll miss the 90MACs as they looked great, although I'm betting the reliability of these GEs will be better.

For over 3-1/2 decades this 1948 Fairmont M19F motorcar has called the Mast home, it's home - that changed yesterday. It was manufactured by Fairmont Railway Motors in March 1948 and sold to the Virginian Railway. It was delivered in a C&NW boxcar to Page, West Virginia, fast forward 37 years to when I purchased it for scrap price from the Norfolk & Western Railroad out of their maintenance yard in Bellevue, Ohio. Now 37 years later - it has left our home for a new one not far from Page, West Virginia. Out of the hundreds of images I took of her all over the country, this is one of my favorites on the Lake Superior & Ishpeming ore dock in Marquette, Michigan under the old steam era water tank in August of 1994. So long old friend, we shared a ton of miles and great times and now I am happy you finally went home.
