A short while before we were aware that there was any hint of panic shopping, we treated ourselves to a new bread baking machine to replace our old one. Immediately on buying it, we went to the supermarket looking for bread flour only to be met with empty shelves! Thankfully we have since managed to find plenty of flour and bread mix, and this was our first new loaf. The smell was wonderful! Tasted even better. A great way to spend a few hours at home!

The sugar loaf aka Fuller's point is yet another of Mad Jack Fuller's follies.

Apparently Fuller made a bet that he could see the spire of St Giles, Dallington from his house. When he realised that this was not true he had workmen erect this folly in order to win the bet!

Looking down at Bella on my lap. I prefer it when she’s curled round on my lap - as a cat loaf, from behind her bottom looks rather larger than I’d like! This theme has made me look at her & wonder if my little cat is heading for “middle age spread”. Perhaps she should come to the gym with me…

Happy Caturday.

Definitely one of the most pathetic loafs I’ve ever seen would rate 1/10

IN THE SEA MANY ARE ONE

A Loaf holds many grains of corn

And many myriad drops the Sea:

So is God's Oneness Multitude

And that great Multitude are we.

Well they tell me it's only a dream in Rio

Nothing could be as sweet as it seems

On this very first day down

They remind me "son have you so soon forgotten

Often as not it's rotten inside

And the mask soon slips away"

Pan Loaf

I am reliably informed that this section of St Monans’ sea defences is known as the pan loaf – no doubt due to its shape.

The three gulls standing on it caught my eye. (If you enlarge the image, you’ll see that there’s another one lying down.)

Not just any loaf .... but ... an Olive Bread, which is about to be lunch :)

My first time to try this recipe... the house smells wonderful! Can't wait to try it!

Lucy was a year old.

Since "everyone's doing it", I thought I'd try getting back to something I used to do weekly. Some old Flickr friends may remember. I'm in an apartment now and lack the full sized oven I used to have. Nor do I have preferred ingredients on hand--the "right" flour etc. But I did have yeast and one small bag each of white and brown flour. This loaf was the result of my winging it with one of my old recipes. Actually, it's pretty tasty. Now I'm motivated to do it more regularly, once I can get to the ingredients I prefer without too much trouble. Just now, I'm only buying what I need to eat short term. I hope you all are managing to get food, wherever you live.

[Deadwool] Tassel loafers

The Loafer is a shoe that does not have laces, and is characterized by the leather strap on the front, which can also be made of other materials!

It can have some details such as buckles, fringes, etc.

This Deadwool item is a shoe with leather fringes and you can wear it with or without socks, alternating between formal and casual looks and a lot of style.

2 April - A Doll A Day 2025

Cregneash Chasms, Isle of Man, early morning and a docile Irish Sea.

They are just the little plums that grow in your back yard really ... but, they are called Italian Plums at the grocery store and they charge more for them than they do other plums... like Black or Red plums....

They only show up in stores at this time of year ..or earlier ..and, if you miss them...well, too bad. They don't get many and they don't hang around long. This year I missed them, plus, I have not been doing as much baking... so I am showing you a photo from eons ago... and here is the recipe.

Italian Prune Nut Bread

1 cup butter

2 cups sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla

4 eggs

3 cups flour

1 teaspoon salt (I use less)

1 teaspoon cream of tartar

1 teaspoon cinnamon (or a sprinkle of ginger, cinnamon &ginger)

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

3/4 cup sour cream (I used fat free yogurt)

2 teaspoons grated orange peel (or lemon peel)

2 cups Italian prunes, pitted and chopped in 1/2 inch pieces.

1 cup chopped nuts

Cream butter, sugar and vanilla until fluffy.

Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Combine flour, salt, cream of tartar, cinnamon and baking soda.

Blend sour cream and orange peel...

.. add to creamed mixture alternately with dry ingredients.

Stir til blended.

Add prunes and nuts; mix well.

Divide between two greased loaf pans (9x5x3).

Bake at 350F for 50-55 minutes

.... or until tooth pick inserted in centre comes out clean.

Cool 10 mins. in pan

Remove from pan and cool thoroughly on rack.

............ options .... I added a bit of ginger, all spice and nutmeg to the cinnamon. Be careful with nutmeg and all spice..just a tiny "sprink" goes a long way! The nuts in mine were walnuts and I lightly toasted them before chopping. Double wrapping with foil and plastic keeps loaves as fresh as the day you bake them. Just thaw and enjoy later. Last week I sliced an egg nog loaf from Christmas baking..... perfect for a surprise treat at tea time ...

Mennonite Girls Can Cook is the site where I found the recipe .... look under quick breads if the link doesn't take you immediately to the page. Have a look at all the other wonderful recipes while you are there ..... I love the beautiful photos. It seems that Mennonite Girls can indeed cook .... and they all seem to be pretty amazing photographers as well.
