We're selling our house and these are the photos I took for the listing. We did all of the upgrades ourselves with the generous help of our families.

neal and i are constant travelers.we have visited so many exciting places.
we travel, at this point, in the summer, since that is when neal has his school holiday (he's an 8th grade geography teacher).
this summer we are planning another adventure (last year africa...this year destination can be anywhere world wide!)
we usually try to swap houses....a fun way to really live in a community and be part of where we are as opposed to "just tourists".
thought you might enjoy getting a peek at where i live and where i make my art.
Within steps of our front door you are minutes away by public transportation from the cultural, historical and intellectual excitement of Washington DC. Being off the Interstate Highway you are an hour away from many of the beautiful rural and historic towns of Virginia and Maryland, to include excellent hiking in the Appalachian Mountains and Shenandoah National Park.
Our home is a bright, comfortable, modern, small brick colonial style townhouse recently renovated in an open loft like style. It is set in a treed courtyard - in a long established community now designated a historic site. The type of place where the streets are full of people jogging and others walking their children and dogs - a safe place where people are friendly.
There is a living room dining room combination on the first floor together with a modern granite topped kitchen (glass top stove, microwave, dishwasher and garbage disposal, etc.) The kitchen door leads to a private, enclosed brick patio perfect for morning coffee or outdoors dining.
On the second floor there is a master bedroom with queen sized bed and a full bath with tub and shower. The small second room, which leads to an art studio, is used, as our grand-daughter’s play room.
The third floor is a full level art studio.
The lower floor - reached from the kitchen - leads to a large den with cable HDTV/DVD and includes an office area with computer. On this level is a second full bathroom with shower and toilet and washer and dryer. It also includes a folding tread mill.
The entire house has ac, with ceiling fans in the bedroom and studio. There are hardwood floor on four levels. The house has contemporary furniture and is excitingly decorated with modern art.
There is a full sized aero inflatable bed that can be set up in any of the rooms for children or other guests.
Time to relax - a large community swimming pool and two tennis courts are just behind the house. A five minute walk takes you to a large shopping center that can meet all your needs from two supermarkets, a coffee cafe, pharmacy, dry cleaners, beauty shop, bank and so forth. A twenty minute walk takes you to a local entertainment center with several movie theaters and a large variety of restaurants (including one of the best in the Washington area) and a wonderful bakery.

My mom helped me set up this kitchen, as I've never really cooked (and I still don't, not really). Still, everything is set up just nicely. My favorite is the fan on the top of the shelf, which was mom's idea: it's been very, very useful in the Singapore heat.
I've loved this house, the experience of living on my own, of setting my house just the way I like it, buying my own furniture and moving it around to suit me. I am going to miss this place so much.

fully equipped: fridge, freezer, oven, dishwasher, large microwave, coffee machine, toaster, Nespresso, plenty of plates etc.
Here is the after, finally! We changed the floor, tiled counters, painted walls and counters, added a solar tube, painted light fixtures and added a Big Chill fridge and a new stove. Oh yeah and gutted a bathroom and turned it into a pantry.

Note the "apartment stove." We used to dread getting this one is home ec and now it's all I have to cook with. It's actually not a bad stove.. just a little small.

kitchen - natural cherry cabinets, island is painted a redish orange color. I really love the spot on the end for the lunch boxes and placemats. The other end of the island has 2 potato bins

From left to right: upright freezer, stove, counter, dishwasher, fridge, microwave on rolling cart. The deep drawers below the counter are our pantry; the cabinets hold the usual cabinety things. The range hood actually vents to the outside; the landlord installed it for free when we told him that we like to cook. We like our landlord.
When we've been here a year we plan to ceremoniously dispose of all the boxes for our appliances, as a symbol of our intent to stay for a very long time. Until then they live on the cabinets.

Photomatix Exposure Fusion blended with a separate flash frame in CS5. Flash frame = Vivitar 285 CL on stand just out of frame bounced into ceiling, 285 CL in dining area (across from double window), 285 CL just on other side of frig and 580 EXII WAD w/ Stofen bounced above me. Several grid pops on lower cabinets masked in for accents.
Wow what a Kitchen! We tried to keep the feel of a simple farmhouse but bring it up to modern standards. This kitchen features Solid Maple Cabinets in a classic shaker style. It has a cast iron farmhouse sink with a bridged faucet. It has classic Black Granite Countertops, and a marble subway tile backsplash. Under Cabinet Lighting. New stainless steel Appliances with a gas grange and counter depth refrigerator. Last but certainly not least is a great old butcher block island that we found down the road and the Lucketts Store that fit just perfectly in the space.
