KITCHEN
We love our kitchen. We renovated the kitchen when we bought the apartment. The previous owner also renovated it, but it was completely non-functional. It didn’t have a full size refrigerator, just a mini fridge. I didn’t have an oven, only a microwave and a cook top. The sink was a bar sink and you could barley fit a plate in it. We gutted it.
The refrigerator is Summit, the stove is 24” Bertazzoni, The sink is Kraus, the faucet is Delta, the counter tops are Caesarstone (Frosty Carrina), the dishwasher is Bosh 300 series, the microwave is GE.
We wanted a hand cut subway tile look, but didn’t want to pay for it. I was able to find some great irregular tiles at a place in Brooklyn:www.classictilenewyork.com/product/39-subway-tile/2375-3x…
I didn’t want to clutter up the counter space with a dish drying rack. I ended up making one to fit on the 6” X 24” space to the left of the sink using a pot lid organizer from ikea.
White was chosen for the chef's coat to signify cleanliness. Later, the French master chef, Georges Auguste Escoffier, brought the traditional chef's coat to London, managing the restaurants at the Savoy Hotel and then at the Carlton Hotel.
The chef's buttons also have a meaning: while qualified chefs wear black buttons, students wear white buttons.

dawsons dad made those fantastic open shelves. i LOVE them! they make the kitchen feel so open. i did paint the bottom cabinets and the walls...and the ceiling and man that part was NOT fun. there was some mudding, some sanding and more sanding involved but i'm definitely happy with it now. still need some window scraping.

My last seagull pic prompted a few questions about textures and which ones I'm using, so I thought I'd post another shot of my "kitchen."
You can see that I'm actually using three textures, and two to three layers of each, which I've blended in and out using masks and various overlay modes.
The post processing on this one got pretty extensive - about 24 layers (including 8 texture layers, 3 high-pass layers, and 9 adjustment layers). Fun!! :)

Showed this North Scottsdale house a few weeks ago. It had been totally updated. The glass backsplash caught my eye. The rest of the house was beautiful, too.

180 degrees from where the dining nook photo was taken - note wicked awesome vintage tile and cabinets.
Once my husband started building it, he kind of got carried away with making it look as "real" as possible, which wasn't surprising to me in the least but still funny because Henry could care less about that kind of stuff. Now that it's finished, I am glad he paid such attention to detail because it feels like a little part of the house now.
Beautiful and functional kitchen. Custom cabinets, two different colors of granite, low flow faucet and Energy Star appliances.
