My tiny kitchen. Small, but functional.
I've had a lot of good times here... holidays, birthdays and this is the house that Emilie first came home to. I'll miss it so I thought I would take a few pics to remember it by.

For Throwback Thursday. In the early 1970s, my Mother and I lived in an apartment on Hill Ave. in Elgin, IL. According to Map Quest, Elgin is 49 miles west of Chicago. This was the kitchen in the apartment. The black and white cat on the chair was called Boris. The Siamese cat on the refrigerator was named Pretty Boy.
Pic found on Foxgloves, Fabric and Folly blog. I like the open shelving, the glass front cabinets, the butcher block counter top, the big glass canisters on the counter, and the relaxed feel of the horizontal boards.
The kitchen has stainless counter tops on one side and concrete countertops on the other side of the kitchen where the dishwasher is located. The kitchen also has a large stainless subzero fridge

With a large center island, lots of counter space, professional grade appliances, and abundant storage, this kitchen is a dream come true for the owner. She loves to greet each day by going to the kitchen with the morning sun filling the space. The cabinetry consists of beaded, inset doors of white glazed ash with raised panels at the base cabinets and beadboard at the wall cabinets.

New kitchen! See those swanky green tiles and admire the fact that the Pure Evoke II no longer is precariously positioned on top of a cupboard!

This is the kitchen from the door of the family room. It probably needs the most work in the house. Big and old but lots of potential.
This 1920's home had lots of charm but lacked the space and convenience of a modern kitchen. Where are the countertops? The current dining room was large compared to the kitchen and underutilized. The existing laundry/pantry was tucked in a corner with two doorways (waste of space) and the tiny half bathroom was almost useless. After touring the home and speaking with the homeowners we came up with the following design. We opened the kitchen to the dining room and subsequently to the rest of the house. This allowed the feeling of more space and lots of natural light. We also closed off the laundry area to the dining and kitchen and incorporated it into a new full bathroom with laundry facility (see McGuire in Bathroom Portfolio). The homeowners are delighted with the new layout and even sent out Christmas cards to their friends and family with their children's picture and a note saying "Happy Holidays from our new Kitchen!"
