I also found it interesting that the alphabet layering on top of the numbers was completely different to the mobile phone standard we have these days (or the US or UK letter standards for rotary phones, which I believe are different).
Nokia is my employer, so I sometimes demo things on different handsets. While I wouldn't use a half-QWERTY device like the Nokia E55 myself, they do fill a niche between the bulkier full-QWERTY keypads and those small, 12-key keypads where you either have to tap-tap-tap to get the right letter or use T9 predictive text. This still uses a predictive text engine, but with only 2 letters per button, it's faster. And the phone is sexy slim and solid feeling.

We hit up the bank to get cash, because nobody in either La Fortuna or Monteverde wants to be paid in local currency. They all prefer dollars, with a passion. The thing is, the ATMs in La Fortuna don't have the letters on the keypad like they do in the US. I don't have the slightest idea what my PIN NUMBER is, I know it as a pneumonic. I use a word, and then just type out whatever number that word works out to. Like LOVE is 5683.
So, I had to lleave the bank, find a pay phone, take this picture, go back to the bank, and finally find out what my PIN number is, and out spat all those lovely dollars.
This is Japanese mega-bank's ATM interface for inputing password. You'll see numeric keypad rotates clock wise.
In this system, numeric keypad rotates randomly at each access.
This layout makes me miss-type...:-(.
180 degree rotates doesn't make confuse because layout is same with phone or calculator. But 90 degree rotates situation is very strange layout for us.

When I got my security alarm that directly contacts the police if it goes off, I thought it was a great thing. But now I am not so sure. Everytime the wind blows really hard, the front door moves just enough to set off the alarm and make the police come. I then get a bill in the mail for the "false alarm." If I get 2 more of these this year (already had 2!), then the police will suspend me. Yikes!
