The West Side Citizens' Organization, just a few blocks from my house and the polling station, had a big tent outside with a giant "I Voted" sign. Sadly there was no one in the tent.
And here are my stubs as proof. Damn, I do not like those Sequoia machines. All the annoyance of a paper ballot (am I the only one who gets paranoid about not filling things out right and the machine not being able to read them? I like touch screens, dammit!) with none of the security.
I realize I'm being silly, but come on, they look like a fucking shredder! And those ballots, with most of the issues on one side, and then like 3 on the other and it isn't particularly clearly indicated that you need to turn it over for the rest? Not at all voter-friendly. Oh well, we just got them, so I guess we're stuck with them for a while.

1. Big margin = big mandate. The popular vote doesn't put anyone in the White House, but it affects what presidents can do when they get there. Want Obama to be able to actually do the stuff he's been talking about? Pass universal health care? End the war? Then we need a landslide.
2. The other things on the ballot matter! There are important issues on the California ballot this year, and progressives all need to weigh in. You better believe our opponents will turn out and vote on them. Also, there's Congress. Without more support in the House and Senate, Obama will have a hard time getting progressive laws passed.
3. If you don't vote, everyone can find out. Voting records are public. (Not who you voted for, just whether you voted.) Pretty soon, finding out whether you voted could be as easy as Googling you.
4. Help make history. You could cast one of the votes that elect the first African-American president. If we win, we'll tell our grandchildren about this election, and they'll tell their grandchildren. Do you really want to have to explain to your great-great-grandchildren that you were just too busy to vote in the most important election in your lifetime?
5. People died so you'd have the right to vote. Self-government—voting to choose our own leaders—is the original American dream. We are heir to a centuries-long struggle for freedom: the American Revolution, and the battles to extend the franchise to those without property, to women, to people of color, and to young people. This year, many will still be denied their right to vote. For those of us who have that right, it's precious. If we waste it, we dishonor those who fought for it and those who fight still.
Live your values. Love your country. Vote.

Do you know how WONDERFUL it feels to say that? This is the first election I've voted in that my candidate has won.
As I left my voting booth, I got misty-eyed. As I watch John McCain's concession speech, my eyes are getting watery.
We did it. Finally. Maybe the country will really change now. I hope for myself, my family, and for my little boy that this country is going to be in the hands of in just a short 12 years.
Just got back actually.
I've felt a lot of pressure this year on who to vote for. Some people state their opinions as facts and then act like anyone who has different opinions are uninformed or just idiots.
That bugs me. I think everyone has their own beliefs and opinions for their own reasons. No one is wrong.
I just want the majority of the people who care enough to vote to get what they want. Whether its who I voted for or not.

And you should too! Get out and vote, vote EARLY, to make sure you get in that vote. What if something happens to distract you on Election Day, or the lines are so long you leave and can't come back or come back but you are at the point of the line where they won't let you in? If you know who you are going to vote for, JUST VOTE!!!
...and seriously...if you are still undecided...uh WHY?!?!? I mean these 2 are Night & Day, Good & Evil...have you heard the airplane food comparison?

November 3, 2020 - Me Casting my Ballot for the U.S. Election 2020 at my Polling Place at American Gold Star Manor in Long Beach, CA!
Of course I voted! And then wore my "I Voted" sticker to a local pizza place for a free slice. (Armands gives a free slice to anyone with an "I Voted" sticker on election day. Good pizza, good publicity, and a restaurant full of optimistic people. )
For my Flickr friends who are not in the US: it is common for polling places in the US to give voters these stickers on their way out of the room after they finish voting. I have no idea how the tradition started. I have been told that seeing people with the stickers early in the day often reminds people who have not yet voted that they should. My guess is that it also shames some people into picking themselves up and voting - which is fine with me. It is beyond embarrassing how many people here don't vote.
