I had planned to get a pick of my "I Voted" sticker today, but my polling location wasn't giving them out. They just stamped my voter registration card--bummer!
My son's school had a mock election today, so I improvised.
Get out & vote people!

How 'bout you? If you're in California and Alaska and you haven't voted yet, go go go to your precinct! You have less than two hours!
And if you're wondering, I voted for my chosen candidate because I believe that Yes. We. Can make a difference this year. I'm trying not to be too optimistic, but I can't help myself!!
By the way, that curtain I'm lying on is the freakishly, glowingly green screen tarp my boss bought yesterday for shoots (this image does not capture its radioactivity). It was such a perfect contrast to the red, white and blue.
(PS - I know I haven't put up photos 22 through 35 yet, but today is so important!! I just had to.)
Step One: vote. check.
Step Two: acknowledge as you pull out of polling place parking lot that the metal-on-metal sound you hear tearing through your brain when applying brakes must be stopped.
Step Three: drive directly to shop; resign self to having to fork over a LOT of money for new brakes and probably new rotors.
Step Four: get to work.
Step Five: send file to printers; big project finally going to press. Yea! Plus, added bonus of no last-minute rush around problems.
Step Six: Get call from shop: brakes will be about $250 LESS than you anticipated.
Step Seven: thank your sweet stars above.
Step Eight: car's ready; go get it.
Step Nine: Reward self for most awesome day with new boots even though you went in for new maryjane's and they cost about $85 more than you planned to pay.
Step 10: try not to gloat too much about how awesome today is because you still have election coverage tonight and we really do not know how tonight will turn out but oh my god please please please let it be Barack Obama.
I did a mail in to Colorado. I had to overnight it to Denver because I didn't get the ballot until yesterday.

I was going to try to take my picture while voting, in the booth, even though I had read that this was not legal... Unfortunately, when I got to the polling station the only voting booth open when it was my turn was the short handicap accessible booth. Since the sides on this booth were much shorter, it would have been pretty obvious if I had reached into my purse and pulled out the camera or tried a shot with my cellphone. So, instead, I just shot my "I Voted" sticker as I left the gymnasium after casting my ballot.
Sidenote: Wow, am I ever glad to have my "Thrifty Fifty" lens back*! That affordable little 50mm 1.8 lens takes such nice pictures with incredible depth of field!
*My camera bag was stolen from the car about a month ago so I lost my Rebel, kit lens, 50mm lens and the Tamrac bag itself. While I don't mind "having" to use Rob's 30D in the meantime, I can't wait for the insurance claim to get settled so I can get my own camera again. The 50mm is so cheap, $79, that I decided to just buy another while we wait for a check from the insurance company.
In many cities, today is the last day to REGISTER TO VOTE So if you haven't, then WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR???
I took this picture of Courtney on November 2nd, 2004, just as we were on our way to the voting booths in Spanish Harlem. The race was between George W. Bush and John Kerry and I remember leaving the voting booths with such confidence that change was on the way.
Anyone that knows me, knows that I subscribe to NO PARTY and I believe that partisan politics are harmful to this country. As much as I want to vote for someone outside the Republican or Democratic party, THIS TIME the stakes are too high.
Back in 2000, the major choice was between Al Gore and George W. Bush and popular opinion was that no matter who we voted for, we were going to get the same outcome. History will show that we couldn't have been more wrong. In 2000, I threw my support behind third parties to try and shake up this process and bring the right kind of change faster. Now we are even father from that dream than we were back then.
It's all about baby steps, people. This year I'm voting for Barack Obama because we can't afford to do things the way we've done them for the past 8 years. And just like any candidate I vote for, I'll be ready to criticise them when they don't hold up to their campaign promises. I really want to believe in what Barack Obama says about the changes he wants to make to this country and I plan to hold him to that.
Blind support of our leaders is the last thing we need. It's critical thinking and the ability to look past partisianship that should prevail.
NOW GET OUT THERE AND VOTE!!!

Today is election day and the campaigns are finally over. To all my US friends, I hope you have already voted or are going to vote before the polls close. And regardless of who you vote for I hope you base your choice on a well-reasoned analysis of the candidates and their positions. I voted in person during early voting last week, but my wife and daughter voted by mail to avoid exposure to crowds. I got two stickers - one for voting in the national election and one for the local and state-wide races. Now we just have to await the results.
This mural is in an appropriate place, as the City Hall stops for the Hop just north of it give access to the Zeidler Building where a voting dropbox is open around the clock until the close of the polls on November 3, 2020 at 8 pm. The Zeidler Building is also a site for in-person absentee voting from October 20 to November 1, 2020 during Mon - Fri : 8:00 AM - 7:00 PM Weekends : 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM.

Hop 01 as shown has a special wrap promoting the MaskUpMKE.org effort to encourage mask-wearing during the pandemic.
This is another example of how The Hop streetcar supports civic engagement--by providing transportation to City Hall for voting by dropbox, early absentee, or election day.
Doing my civic duty...My vote is my voice, and there’s more power in that than in most of the things we do in our lives. Have a great day everyone. It's just nice that I don't have to go out and do election coverage doing live shots, for the news, going to polling stations and getting video of voters casting ballots, watching them carry the ballot boxes to the county commissioners office, etc.
Even though I had to wait one hour, and ten minutes and that was at 6am CST, just getting the chance to vote was worth it!

The amendment to our state's constitution would ban not only gay marriage but also anything "substantially similar" to marriage.

I voted electronically last night at a ROVER mobile polling vehicle at the Metrolink train station in Riverside.
It took about 20 minutes and was quite convenient. I didn't want to have to deal with voting next Tuesday since I have a long commute to and from work. ;)

It was 15 minutes till closing time when I just made it just after work. I had my sample ballot ready and was in and out in no time! Whew!
Today was the primary elections in America. I voted, and they gave me a sticker so that the world would know that I voted. I walked home and hung up my jacket, so nobody actually so that I voted, so the sticker was pointless... until this photo.
I tweaked it in Photoshop a bit. I blurred and vignetted the edges, and desaturated most of the background.
btw, I'm really glad they didn't jump on the Apple bandwagon and change the stickers to iVoted. That would've been lame.
