Does isolating a smaller portion of an overall natural pattern somehow make it more definable as truly "abstract?" What if I artificially saturated the red core? (I haven't) Perhaps more striking as an "abstract" but at one point is it no longer legitimate example of "Nature as an Abstract Artist?"

Refusing to self-isolate when told to is now illegal in England from Monday, with fines of up to £10,000.

Anyone who tests positive for Covid-19, or has been told they have been in contact with someone who has, now has a legal duty to quarantine.

It comes as a study commissioned by the government found just 18% of people who had symptoms went into isolation.

It doesn't matter if your test and trace system works or not if 82% of people ignore it.

Now I know a person can be smart and as a group people are often not smart, but this just seems beyond belief - 82%.

Home Secretary Priti Patel added the new fines were "a clear sign that we will not allow those who break the rules to reverse the hard-won progress made by the law-abiding majority".

I don't think the Home Secretary knows what majority means; looks to me as if the majority are NOT law-abiding.

NOTE the text here has nothing to do with the guy in the photograph,

Part of my cancer series.

For some cancer can feel like an isolating experience surrounded by people who don't understand, even when you try and explain something that they can't relate to but they try to relate it to something they have been through which often is nothing like what your going through. It can be frustrating. That's why for some it helps to find support groups of people who can relate.

If your interested in light painting check out this new light painting group Shining Light on Cancer. Thanks.

Pictober 9 - Isolate: The feeling of isolation

Lucas Vineyards by Cayuga Lake, a month or so ago.

Originally, I was not going to post this one; it seemed nondescript, as if it lacked a focal point. But, sometimes, that is exactly how one feels. It has been a rough week.

Keep your distance when out for your walks.

This was a bonus as I couldn't find this working on RTT, but thankfully had received a call re another matter from fellow phottor Chris Davis. Chris had spotted this and dropped it into our conversation that this was due. Cheers Chris.

Thanks to an injury I sustained many years ago whilst playing British Bulldogs I no longer have a spleen. The latest health recommendations are that anyone in such a predicament should self isolate as they are deemed at risk should they contact the C-19 virus. All I needed was a line side location where I could be sure of not encountering other friendly phottors. Add to that the angle of the sun and a clear line side view and my options were suddenly very limited.

I have the most awful tonsillitis; so I'm editing while in bed under the effects of strong flu medicines, so excuse this for looking... odd.

Self isolation can be a lonely experience. Remember to check on the welfare of vulnerable friends during difficult times.

Who says landscape photography has to be reality when in miniature it can come from the imagination. From fairies at the bottom of your garden to 'the borrowers' we are obsessed with the fantasy of little people in a

full-sized world. My 'downsizing' project, using model railway figures, food and everyday objects, is merely an

extension of those thoughts.

The story of this photo:

Happy valentine's day to everybody! I got this rose as a Valentine's day present for my girlfreind. Of course, I had to set it up and take a few photos. In the end, this HDR version truned out to be the best.

Take a look at my "HDR Cookbook"! It contains some more information on my techniques.

Success story:

This photo came 2nd in the April 2010 competition of the Wonderful world of flowers group.

How it was shot:

> Using a tripod

> HDR from 3 exposures (0,-2,+2 ev) - RAW files

> Camera: Nikon D90

> Lens: Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm 1:1,8G

> Details can be found here

How it was tonemapped:

> Photomatix (Detail Enhancer)

How it was post-processed:

> Topaz ReMask to isolate the rose in the foreground from the background

> Topaz Detail to enhance the details and the colors of the rose

> Topaz Denoise to get rid of the noise artifacts produced by Photomatix and Topaz Adjust

> Saturation layer (master) to desaturate the background

> Sharpening using the high pass filter

> Cropping
