It is quite difficult to isolate Skylarks on the ground as they inhabit such uniform grassy habitats. I managed to isolate this one on the slightest rise using an ultra-low point of view. My only regret is that its crest wasn't raised.
It is red-listed as a bird that has suffered a >50% decline in the past 25 years yet there are still more than 1.4 million breeding pairs so it is still a common and widespread breeding bird. But if it continues on that same trajectory we could have lost it completely in another 25 years, hence the red-listing. For such a dull LBJ it has inspired a disproportionate amount of poetry and prose from Shelley, Shakespeare, Houseman and Chaucer to Blake. But it is the song rather than the plumage that has inspired such people as it sings ceaselessly from on high in the spring. Wordsworth described the Skylark as ethereal minstrel, and I love Meredith's line "he drops the silver chain of sound". It was George Meredith's poem "The Lark Ascending" that inspired Vaughan Williams' musical piece of the same name, though that is much slower-paced than the hurried song of a Skylark. The title "Hail to thee, blithe Spirit" is the opening line to Shelley's Ode to a Skylark.
Isolating this palm tree frond by turning the background black dramatically improved the image. For details on processing and a side-by-side comparison of the before and after images, see my post previous to this one in my photo stream... www.flickr.com/photos/stevefrazier/17269148385/
The original photo was taken in Punta Gorda Isles over the break. The sun was lighting it so beautifully. Punta Gorda Isles is located in southwestern Florida... and filled with palm trees. Hmmm.... palm trees conjure images of vacations, don't they? :D

Went out with Alya today shooting this n that with my baby because her new Diana F+ came in (she already joined a lomo group).....
Anyway, we're about to go get her first two rolls so check out her stream a little later and see what you think.
I shot this awesome bench in a local bank's corporate headquarters. They have this sorta zen garden type thing with really neat benches. I'm convinced there might even be another two or three shots in there somewhere.

Star trails over Waldegrave Pool, Priddy.
Was my first attempt at the time at star trails - taken outside Bristol while it was minus six degrees Celsius.
Self-isolate is one of the new words for 2020 added to the Merriam Webster dictionary.
Suzanne spends much of her time under my chair. She really likes the privacy of Dorable's old pillowcase that I have covering my seat cushion. She peeps out to keep track of the rest of us.
How are you all holding up staying home?
Another capture isolating the leaves, some of the last that were around from this past Fall.
What is interesting about this capture of the yellow leaves is that it is not leaves against a blue sky ... but rather was captured with a neighbor's house that was in the bokeh ... and the house is cream colored.
Below is the original capture taken at sunset with the WB set at cloudy ... here with the image above, I played around with the WB, and cooling it down resulted in the "blue sky". Pretty "cool" I think.
