This is the east window, designed by Charles Eamer Kempe. A crucifixion scene, it has the Virgin on one side and St John on the other. It was dedicated to Rev. Alexander Fownes Luttrell, rector of the parish, who died in 1888. Irritatingly out of focus is this charming row of angels at the top.

Witley Court is probably England's grandest residential ruin. Badly damaged by fire in 1937 and not rebuilt due to under insurance it is a fine example of a 19th Century industrial tycoon's home based on a house dating back to Jacobean times - but much rebuilt and enlarged in Italianate style during the Victorian Period. The impressive Perseus and Andromeda Fountain dates from the Victorian rebuilding. Following the fire the remains were stripped of anything saleable and in the 1960s it was nearly demolished. Fortunately it was taken into state guardianship and is now managed by English Heritage who have undertaken much renovation and conservation work from the 1990s onwards.

Fort Lauderdale station is an inter-city rail station located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It is served by Brightline, which connects Miami, West Palm Beach, and Orlando International Airport. The station is located in downtown Fort Lauderdale, on NW 2nd Avenue between Broward Boulevard and NW 4th Street, adjacent to the Broward County Transit's Central Terminal.

Construction for the station began in October 2014 with the demolition of existing structures on the site. The complex consists of an elevated concourse above an 800-foot-long (240 m), 35-foot-wide (11 m) island platform for the trains. The station is a modern-style structure with illuminated V-shaped columns supporting the upper concourse, echoing the designs of the Miami and West Palm Beach stations on the line. It was planned and designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in association with Zyscovich Architects, and was completed in January 2018.

Norwegen / Nordland - Helgelandskysten

Ågskardet

Helgeland is the most southerly district in Northern Norway. Generally speaking, Helgeland refers to the part of Nordland county that is located south of the Arctic Circle. It is bordered in the north by the Saltfjellet mountains and Svartisen glacier, which form a natural border with the Salten district. In the south, Helgeland borders Trøndelag county.

The district covers an area of about 18,832 square kilometres (7,271 sq mi), with nearly 79,000 inhabitants. There are four towns in the district: from south to north these are Brønnøysund, Mosjøen, Sandnessjøen, and Mo i Rana.

Name

The Old Norse form of the name was Hálogaland (see Hålogaland).

Geography

Helgeland is commonly divided into three or four sections:

Southern Helgeland (actually southwest), which consists of the municipalities Bindal, Sømna, Brønnøy, Vega and Vevelstad.

Central Helgeland, which is sometimes further divided into the regions:

Inner Helgeland, which consists of the municipalities Grane, Hattfjelldal and Vefsn.

Outer Helgeland, which consists of the municipalities Leirfjord, Alstahaug, Herøy and Dønna.

Northern Helgeland, which consists of the municipalities Hemnes, Rana, Nesna, Lurøy, Træna and Rødøy.

Helgeland is characterized by pointed mountains and Strandflaten, a shallow lowland area, sometimes just above the sea surface, and sometimes just below the surface. People living on the coast have settled on this lowland (while inland towns, such as Mo and Mosjøen, are situated in valleys). A consequence of the Strandflaten is thousands of islands, and shallow waters going far into the sea. This has provided some shelter from stormy weather, which might occur in winter. Some islands are fairly large, often with unique mountains, such as Torghatten, De syv søstre (The Seven Sisters), Hestmannen, Rødøyløva (in Rødøy), Dønnamannen (picture), and Træna. There are several sea bird colonies, such as Lovund with thousands of puffins. The Solvær Islands (Solværøyene) in Lurøy consists of about 300 small and flat islands and has the highest densities of Eurasian eagle-owls in Europe.

The highest mountains, are located inland, where Oksskolten is the highest mountain in Northern Norway. There are many valleys inland, such as the Dunderland Valley, Vefsndalen, and Hattfjelldal. Røssvatnet is the second largest lake in Norway. There are three large national parks in Helgeland: Saltfjellet–Svartisen National Park (partly), Børgefjell National Park (partly), and Lomsdal–Visten National Park (created in May 2009).

Cultural references

Helgeland is the scene for Henrik Ibsen's 1857 historical play "The Vikings at Helgeland" (Hærmændene paa Helgeland), whose plot takes place at this region during the time of Erik Blood-axe (c. 930–934).

Helgeland Kammerkor, a mixed choir with members from all parts of Helgeland, have recorded an album of folk music from Helgeland (Folketoner fra Helgeland, 2005). The album contains 27 folk tunes from Helgeland, recorded in collaboration with folk musicians from the area. The album was recorded in Alstahaug Church, a 900-year-old stone church located near Sandnessjøen.

Ågskardet is a village in Meløy Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is located on the southern side of the Holandsfjorden, about 3.5 kilometres (2.2 mi) north of the village of Tjong (in neighboring Rødøy Municipality). There were 127 inhabitants in 2008.

The village lies along Norwegian County Road 17, with a ferry connection to a port, just west of the village of Halsa. The ferry is the only connection to the rest of Meløy Municipality to the north. The village is situated just north of the border with Rødøy Municipality. The village has its own school, chapel/community centre, and some private companies.

is the point at which the River Murray meets the southern Southern Ocean. The Murray Mouth's location is changeable. Historical records show that the channel out to sea moves along the sand dunes over time. At times of greater river flow and rough seas, the two bodies of water would erode the sand dunes to create a new channel leaving the old one to silt and disappear.

The mouth is between two sandhill peninsulas. Sir Richard Peninsula on the northwest separates the Goolwa channel (the main river channel) from the ocean. The much longer Younghusband Peninsula separates the Coorong from the ocean on the southeast of the mouth.

Ashland is the name of the plantation of the 19th-century Kentucky statesman Henry Clay,[2] located in Lexington, Kentucky, in the central Bluegrass region of the state. Long operated as a forced-labor farm whose owners enslaved Black people, it is a registered National Historic Landmark.[2] The Ashland Stakes, a Thoroughbred horse race at Keeneland Race Course that has run annually since the race course first opened in 1936, was named for the historically important estate.

I got Lego Dimensions and the portal pack and it is an amazing game! Batman in Springfield, Chel in the old west, Awesome!

After I played that for a while I got back into portal, and passed the first one in a few hours, so decided to make this little guy because the one that comes with the Portal pack is way too big.

Please comment if you favorite, and let me know what you think of Dimensions!

This is a beautiful sunrise I captured in Venice, piazza San Marco, I woke up early to have no people in my shot and I was very happy with the clouds and the composition, it was definitely worth waking up early!

Cape Schanck is a locality at the southernmost tip of the Mornington Peninsula in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, approximately 72 km (45 mi) south of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Shire of Mornington Peninsula local government area.

Cape Schanck separates the wild ocean waters of Bass Strait from the slightly calmer waters of Western Port. The most recognisable symbol of Cape Schanck is the Cape Schanck Lighthouse. The lighthouse was built in 1859 and was the second lighthouse built in Victoria. A prominent rock outcrop is Pulpit Rock and stands out at the very tip of the cape.

The location was named in 1800 after Captain John Schank, R.N. (note spelling with only one 'c') by Lieutenant James Grant sailing on the Lady Nelson. Schank had designed the raised keel (or centreboard) on the Lady Nelson. The spelling of the locality as 'Schanck' (two c's) is a misspelling of Schank. Nicolas Baudin called it Cap Richelieu when he sailed past on the Géographe on 30 March 1802.

Italien / Südtirol - Rosengartengruppe

Bärenloch

seen on the way from the Rifugio Alpe di Tires to the Rifugio Bolzano al Monte Pez

gesehen auf dem Weg von der Tierser-Alpl-Hütte zum Schlernhaus

The Rosengarten group (Italian: Catinaccio [katiˈnattʃo], Ladin: Ciadenac, Ciadenáze) is a massif in the Dolomites of northern Italy. It is located between the Tierser Tal and Eggental in South Tyrol and the Fassa Valley in Trentino.

One peculiarity of the Rosengarten is the pink shade, owing to the presence of the mineral dolomite, which takes in the sunset and "glows", as celebrated in the Bozner Bergsteigerlied. Meaning "Rose garden" in German, the name refers to the legend of King Laurin and his Rose Garden, a traditional story explaining the outer appearance of the mountain range.

The highest peak is the Kesselkogel at 3,002 m (9,849 ft) above sea level. Other peaks include:

Rosengartenspitze - 2,981 m (9,780 ft)

Vajolet-Türme - 2,813 m (9,229 ft)

Laurinswand (Croda di Re Laurino) - 2,813 m (9,229 ft)

Tscheiner-Spitze (Cima Sforcella) - 2,813 m (9,229 ft)

Rotwand (Roda di Vaèl) - 2,806 m (9,206 ft)

Teufelswand (Croda Davoi) - 2,727 m (8,947 ft)

(Wikipedia)

This is my last roll of Rollei Crossbird until it swings back around. This one, like maybe half of the rolls I've shot, has a very distinct "hand painted" look to it. This certainly isn't a complaint.

Sometimes ECN-2 does this to certain emulsions. I am fine with that. I don't shoot color for realism. I mean, I don't really shoot anything for realism. But for me, color has to be slipped from a dream. Maybe it's not a surreal fever dream, but it has to be slightly out of sorts for me to enjoy it.

Again, and I've said this many times before, I want to show how a place felt, not now it looked.

The African buffalo (Syncerus caffer) is a large sub-Saharan African bovine. There are five subspecies that are recognized as valid by most authorities:

Syncerus caffer caffer, the Cape buffalo, is the nominotypical subspecies, as well as the largest, found in Southern and East Africa.

S. c. nanus, the forest buffalo, is the smallest subspecies, common in forest areas of Central and West Africa

S. c. brachyceros, the Sudan buffalo, a smaller version of the Cape buffalo, found in the drier, northern areas of Central and West Africa.

S. c. aequinoctialis, the Nile Buffalo, sometimes considered identical to the Sudan buffalo, found in the drier, northern areas of East and Central Africa.

S. c. mathewsi, the mountain buffalo, a disputed subspecies from the Virunga Mountains in Central Africa.

The adult African buffalo's horns are its characteristic feature: they have fused bases, forming a continuous bone shield across the top of the head, referred to as a boss.

The African buffalo is more closely related to other buffalo species than it is to other bovids such as American bison or domestic cattle, with its closest living relative being the Asian water buffalo. Its unpredictable temperament may be part of the reason that the African buffalo has never been domesticated, which would also explain why the African buffalo has no domesticated descendants, unlike the wild yak and wild water buffalo which are the ancestors of the domestic yak and water buffalo. Natural predators of adult African buffaloes include lions, African wild dogs, spotted hyenas, and Nile crocodiles. As one of the Big Five game animals, the Cape buffalo is a sought-after trophy in hunting.

The African buffalo is a very robust species. Its shoulder height can range from 1.0 to 1.7 m (3.3 to 5.6 ft) and its head-and-body length can range from 1.7 to 3.4 m (5.6 to 11.2 ft). The tail can range from 70 to 110 cm (28 to 43 in) long. Compared with other large bovids, it has a long but stocky body (the body length can exceed the wild water buffalo, which is heavier and taller) and short but thickset legs, resulting in a relatively short standing height. Cape buffaloes weigh 425 to 870 kg (937 to 1,918 lb) (males weigh about 100 kg (220 lb) more than females). In comparison, African forest buffaloes, at 250 to 450 kg (600 to 1,000 lb), are only half that size. Its head is carried low; its top is located below the backline. The front hooves of the buffalo are wider than the rear, which is associated with the need to support the weight of the front part of the body, which is heavier and more powerful than the back.

Other than humans, African buffaloes have few predators and are capable of defending themselves against (and killing) lions. Lions kill and eat buffaloes regularly, and in some regions, the buffaloes are the lions' primary prey. It often takes several lions to bring down a single adult buffalo, and the entire pride may join in the hunt. R_48461

Love is Colorful

A poem by Peter S. Quinn

Love is colorful

In its true simplicity

With its inside pull

Always more to be

Like a cloudless sky

In the never ending

Reaching high near by

With its color blending

Love is for all

Always true and new

Summer’s winter fall

As they both come thru

Every freshly take

That never stays for long

In its happy wake

Of a summer song

Love is all of this

Never ending glow

Mystic light in bliss

In its evening flow

Rising skies dawn

With their moments give

Where feelings are drawn

And in heart shall live

btw go buy his lug's mech wars book, it is amazing and offers great insights on mech building

Haven't been doing any photos since my other computer broke down, now I have my CS5 back on my new one I need to get back into the game again. Picked this 5D MKII up at a savers thrift store for $40.00. This is a completely new learning curve from my Nikon's.

Venice is a city in Sarasota County, Florida, United States. Venice consists of a large section of mainland, as well as Venice Island just off the coast. The city is located south of Nokomis and north of Englewood. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 20,748. It is noted for its large snowbird population and was voted as a top 10 Happiest Seaside Towns by Coastal Living.

Venice is a principal city of the Bradenton-Sarasota-Venice, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The area of Venice was originally the home of native people who lived more than 12,000 years ago. The 1800s is when the area saw the first wave of settlers. Venice was first known as Horse and Chaise because of a carriage-like tree formation that marked the spot for fisherman. In the 1870s, Robert Rickford Roberts established a homestead near a bay that bears his name today, Roberts Bay. Frank Higel arrived in Venice in 1883 with his wife and six sons. He purchased land in the Roberts' homestead for $2,500, equivalent to $69,000 in 2019, to set up his own homestead. Higel established a citrus operation involving the production of several lines of canned citrus items, such as jams, pickled orange peel, lemon juice, and orange wine. Higel established a post office in 1888 with the name Venice because of its likeness to the canal city in Italy where he spent his childhood.

During the Florida land boom of the 1920s, Fred H. Albee, an orthopedic surgeon renowned for his bone-grafting operations, bought 112 acres (45 ha) from Bertha Palmer to develop Venice. He hired John Nolen to plan the city and create a master plan for the streets. Albee sold the land to the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and retained Nolen as a city planner. The first portions of the city and infrastructure were constructed in 1925–26.

Ásbyrgi (glacial canyon) 20200803

Ásbyrgi is a glacial canyon and forest in the north of Iceland, located on the Diamond Circle road. The horseshoe-shaped depression is part of the Vatnajökull National Park and measures approximately 3.5 km in length and over 1 km wide. For more than half of its length, the canyon is divided through the middle by a distinctive rock formation 25 meters high called Eyjan ("the Island"), from which a vast landscape is seen.

The canyon's steep sides are formed by cliffs up to 100 meters in height. Within the canyon is a woodland of birch and willow. Between 1947 and 1977, a number of foreign tree species were introduced, including spruce, larch and pine. The small lake Botnstjörn is home to a variety of waterfowl species.

Ásbyrgi was most likely formed by catastrophic glacial flooding of the river Jökulsá á Fjöllum after the last Ice Age, first 8-10,000 years ago, and then again some 3,000 years ago. The river has since changed its course and now runs about 2 km to the east.

The legend explains the unusual shape of the canyon differently. Nicknamed Sleipnir's footprint, it is said that the canyon was formed when Odin's eight-legged horse, Sleipnir, touched one of its feet to the ground here.

This is a closer view of the test rail shown in a photo posted earlier. A Nikon 105mm f/2.5 AI-S lens is on the camera (Nikon D40), and a Kodak 7" f/3.5 Projection Ektanon slide projector lens is reverse mounted on the 105mm. The Nikon lens is focused at infinity, and the lens ring to glass plate distance is 13 cm. The area just below the horse's eye is centered in the viewfinder. Here's the image taken:

The sliding stage horizontal and vertical lock knobs were loosened, the stage moved to the left until the stage's glass plate had been brought into contact with the ring at the end of the lens barrel. The stage plate had been adjusted so the lens ring was making full contact with the glass. Then the stage's horizontal and vertical locks had been tightened after the bank note was made absolutely parallel with the camera back. The stage had been moved back and the viewfinder image observed as the stage was carefully moved toward the camera again until the image was razor sharp. At that point the slide was locked in position, the set-up then being ready for taking a photo. Working distance is 13 cm.

Taizō-in (退蔵院?) is the oldest sub-temple (tatchū (塔頭?)) of the Myōshin-ji Rinzai Zen Buddhist temple, situated in the northwest of Kyoto, Japan. It was founded by Zen priest Muinsoin in 1404. The original temple buildings were burned during the Ōnin War (1467-1477), and were later rebuilt.

Taizō-in is well known for its two gardens. The main garden, Motonobu-no-niwa, is a traditional Japanese dry landscape garden (karesansui), containing several angular rocks suggesting the cliffs of the island of Hōrai, with smaller stones suggesting a stream. The planting is mostly evergreen, including camellia, pine, and Japanese umbrella pine. It covers 50 tsubo (170 m²) and was designed to integrate a borrowing of scenery ("shakkei") of a view of Narabigaoka Hill in the distance. It is thought to be the final work of Muromachi painter Kanō Motonobu (狩野 元信), reproducing one of his paintings in three dimensions.

A new pond garden, or yoko-en, was designed by Kinsaku Nakane in 1963-1966. The new garden is large enough for visitors to walk in, and contains azaleas and a stream that cascades along the main axis, directly toward the main viewing position. The stream flows around rocks, gradually widening until it empties into a pool in front of the viewer. (Wikipedia)

Especially Shadow...

Provocative and timely...about how the internet has shaped our lives...and about how real life still intrudes...

They say the weather is very changeable in Scotland , which I've always found to be true, today being no exception, the day started off in a full on blizzard in Glencoe and I didn't even get the camera out at sunrise as you couldn't see a thing, driving was hazardous to say the least as well as just narrowly missed an oncoming lorry on the A82 which had swerved onto my side of the road to avoid a large ice deposit off a previous lorry right into my path, luckily it missed me.

Headed out again after breakfast through it once again and decided to head South towards Taynuilt and Oban, once out of the snow it just didn't stop raining, all day apart from a few moments at Kilchurn Castle on Loch Awe where I managed a few shots. After spending the afternoon in Oban I decided to scout out the best vantage point for Castle Stalker for a better day as the advertised viewpoint is really poor in my view, once I found my spot the rain was easing off but the weather was still pretty poor with low cloud, and hardly any light apart from a promising tiny patch

over towards Mull, with nothing spoiling I decided to just wait here on the offchance of a break.

about 40 minutes it really picked up and I was rewarded with what turned out to be a phenomenal sunset, this image was just the start of it before the sun had fully dropped under the large bank of cloud at the top of the frame, the light was just sublime, there is no way you could have envisaged this sunset at the start of the day or even an hour before, just goes to show you really cannot predict the changes in the weather up here off sight alone, I'll post a few more of these images in the coming weeks as they are quite different, the afterglow after sundow was a stunner as well with some great pinks and purples kicking off over the loch. Spent about 2.5 hours here and loved every minute of it, only realised how cold I was once I'd got back to the car!
