Fajr Prayer is Healthy...
"And He it is Who made the night a covering for you, and the sleep a rest, and He made the day to rise up again"
[Surah al-Furqan; 25:47]
Certainly sleep is one of the blessings from Allah. At the end of a busy day a person looks forward to sleeping and regaining enough energy for the next day. Sleep is also important for good health and safety reasons. However, studies vary as to how much sleep is enough. Some studies claim 8-10 hours is a requirement for everyone. However, the Prophet Mohammad used to sleep very few hours in the night and used part of the night for prayer. Recent studies confirm that this may actually be healthier for some people.
Sleep is important for health and safety reasons. Lack of sleep can lead to mental illness, relationship problems, absence from work and even traffic accidents.
Researchers have found that people with chronic insomnia are more likely than others to develop several kinds of psychiatric problems, and are also likely to make greater use of healthcare services (Yang). Lost productivity due to sleepiness has been estimated to cost the national economy as much as $100 billion annually and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has estimated more than 100,000 auto crashes annually may be fatigue related (Yang). Because of this, some studies claim that 8-10 hours should be required for everyone. However, recent studies have confirmed what the prophet Muhammad did may be healthy for some people.
This waterfall is a short walk up a steep but accessible canyon from NFD Road 90. The area is dark and wet and the vegetation is very lush, as you can see. Unlike some of the other waterfalls I visited, you can count on getting to this one with your feet dry unless you do something foolish.

Petrofani is an abandoned village in central Cyprus. It is located in the Larnaca District and is about 2.5 kilometers southwest of Athienou. Petrofani is close to the United Nations Buffer Zone in Cyprus. Prior to the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus, the village was inhabited by Turkish Cypriots.
Athienou is a village in Larnaca District, Cyprus. It is one of only four villages located within the United Nations Buffer Zone, the other three being Pyla, Troulloi and Deneia. Today, Athienou has a population of around 6,500 people.

Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.
Just living is not enough... one must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower.
Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience.
In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.
Split is a Mediterranean city on the eastern shores of the Adriatic Sea, centred around the ancient Roman Palace of the Emperor Diocletian and its bay and port. With a population of 178,192 citizens, and a metropolitan area numbering up to 467,899, Split is by far the largest Dalmatian city and the second-largest city of Croatia. Spread over a central peninsula and its surroundings, Split's greater area includes the surrounding seaside towns as well. An intraregional transport hub, the city is a link to numerous Adriatic islands and the Apennine peninsula, as well as a popular tourist destination.
Split is also one of the oldest cities in the area. While it is traditionally considered just over 1,700 years old counting from the construction of Diocletian's Palace in AD 305, archaeological research relating to the original founding of the city as the Greek colony of Aspálathos (Aσπάλαθος) in the 6th century BC, establishes the urban tradition of the area as being several centuries older.

This is a fairly large and very bristly Tachinid Fly in the family Tachinidae of the order Diptera. It's perched on a leaf of the mint patch in the garden. It might be smaller than a honeybee, but not by much. I don't know anything else about it. (San Marcos Pass, 4 October 2014)
Today was hopefully the hottest day of our current heat wave. It got up to 100° in the Santa Barbara foothills and up to 102° at the river. It "only" got to 98° on the upstairs porch! It's expected to cool down about 10 degrees tomorrow, but that's still plenty warm. I'll be glad when the autumn weather swings back to cool.

She is there to show support from the Mormon church and also to enlist new believers to the religion. She commented that my english was quite good. I responded by saying that I was born here in this country and that nobody has asked to see my birth certificate. I also added that the trees grow to the right height here and that I will not be voting for Romney. She started to give some literature about the Mormon church but I refused to accept it.
Today is Darek's 39th Birthday! Happy Birthday, Sweetheart! We shared some alone time this morning and I gave him some Disney Socks and Kitty gave him a small monkey.
We met Bill & Thomas in the lobby, had breakfast and headed to Day 2 or our Disneyland adventure.
If you happen to go to Disneyland on your birthday you should immediately go to a shop and ask for your Birthday Pin. You will receive a FREE pin saying Happy Birthday with your name written on it. When someone see's you wearing it they may wish you a Happy Birthday. I loved saying "Happy Birthday" to strangers. Some even knew what I was saying.
It was another fun day...made even more fun being with the Birthday Boy.

Mottisfont Abbey is a National Trust property located in the southern part of Hampshire, England.
It’s main attraction is the magnificent rose garden which is usually at its best in June and July of each year. But it’s a beautiful place to visit at any time of year.
At the end of 2017, through to the early part of 2018 they’ve had an exhibition of Kaffe Fassett’s work. He’s a designer of truly outstanding talent. He knits, he sews, he embroiders and he’s a all round smarty pants! If you get the opportunity to go and see his work then it’s definitely worth it.
I took pictures of people too. And statues. And the delightful trees and shrubs. And the river.
If you look at the pictures and want to comment then please do so.

Northern Cardinal - Cardinalis cardinalis
The Northern Cardinal is a common to abundant resident throughout Florida. It is the common redbird of backyards and parks and is one of the most easily recognized species in the state. The Cardinal is a resident in the eastern half of the United States, including southern Canada, and is also found from Central America north to southeastern California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas.
Two subspecies breed in Florida: C. s. cardinalis west of the Apalachicola River and C. s. floridanus throughout the remainder of the state (Stevenson 1976).
Habitat. The Northern Cardinal is found in a wide variety of habitats, as long as thickets or bushes are present. It is as common in towns and cities as it is in dense hardwood hammocks. Cardinals mostly feed on plant matter, such as the seeds of weeds and grasses, fruits, and grains, but insects and other invertebrates compose about one-third of its diet (Howell 1932).
Nests are usually found within 1 to 4 m (3 to 12 ft) of the ground in bushes, tangles of vines, or small trees and are loosely constructed out of twigs, bark, vines, and leaves and lined with grasses and hair. The heavily brownspotted eggs are usually bluish-white in color. Most often the clutch numbers 3. Eggs hatch in 12 to 13 days, and the young fledge at about 10 days of age.
Seasonal Occurrence. The Northern Cardinal is found year-round throughout Florida. Migratory movements peak in March and April and again in October. Higher frequencies in the interior of northwest Florida during winter counts "may indicate an appreciable influx of Cardinals there in winter" (Stevenson and Anderson 1994)
The Northern Cardinal normally raises 2 to 3 broods each nesting season.
Status. Cardinals were found in more than 1,000 quadrangles, among the most of any species. It is absent only from a few quadrangles in the Keys, Florida Bay, and possibly the agricultural areas of Palm Beach County.

This is a rural church about fifteen miles from the town of Beaufort in South Carolina. Its history seems to be a little vague.
The churchyard contains the graves of William Bull and his family. The Bulls owned a nearby plantation called Sheldon, or Sheldon Hall. It took its name from the Bull family's home English home, Sheldon Hall, now part of Birmingham, but once in the Warwickshire countryside.
The outside wall of the east end of the church seems to show the year 1751 in blue bricks. It is said to have been started in 1745 and completed by 1755. How this matches with the date isn't clear to me.
Rather than the usual dedication to a saint, it is dedicated to 'Prince William'. This is said to be Prince William Augustus, son of George II, and known as "Butcher Cumberland" from his role at the Battle of Culloden, where Charles Edward Stuart's claim to the British thrown was crushed in 1746. This suggests that it was Prince William's victory at Culloden which led to the dedication.
The original church was in the style of a Greek temple and is said to have had an equestrian statue of Prince William under a porch supported by the four free-standing Doric columns, that still exist. There is, apparently, no evidence that the church was ever rendered.
The church was burned by the British 1779 but later rebuilt, apparently in 1826.
The church was burned a second time in 1865 during the Civil War. The ruins have been restored since then - new mortar being obvious throughout the building. Internal plasterwork on some internal walls is well-preserved, although it has been subject to graffiti.

Remembrance Sunday, 10 November 2024
In the United Kingdom, Remembrance Sunday is held on the second Sunday in November, which is the Sunday nearest to 11 November, Armistice Day, the anniversary of the end of hostilities in the First World War at 11 a.m. on 11 November 1918. Remembrance Sunday is held to commemorate the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women in the two World Wars and later conflicts.
Remembrance Sunday is marked by ceremonies at local war memorials in most cities, towns and villages, attended by civic dignitaries, ex-servicemen and -women, members of local armed forces regular and reserve units, military cadet forces and uniformed youth organisations. Two minutes’ silence is observed at 11 a.m. and wreaths of remembrance poppies are then laid on the memorials.
The United Kingdom national ceremony is held in London at the Cenotaph in Whitehall. Wreaths are laid by King Charles III, principal members of the Royal Family, the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Edinburgh and the Princess Royal, the Prime Minister, leaders of the other major political parties, the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, the Home Secretary, Commonwealth High Commissioners and representatives from the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force, the Merchant Navy and Fishing Fleets and the civilian services, and veterans’ groups. In 2024 wreaths were laid by military officers on behalf of Queen Camilla, who did not attend due to illness but normally watches from a balcony, and the Duke of Kent, who viewed the ceremony from a balcony. Two minutes' silence is held at 11 a.m., before the laying of the wreaths. This silence is marked by the firing of a field gun on Horse Guards Parade to begin and end the silence, followed by Royal Marines buglers sounding Last Post.
Other members of the Royal Family watch from the balcony of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. In 2024 the Princess of Wales, the Duchess of Edinburgh, the Duke of Gloucester, the Duchess of Gloucester, the Duke of Kent and Vice Admiral Timothy Laurence watched from the balconies.
After the ceremony, a parade of veterans and other related groups, organised by the Royal British Legion, marches past the Cenotaph, each section of which lays a wreath as it passes. Only ticketed participants can take part in the march past.
From 1919 until the Second World War remembrance observance was always marked on 11 November itself. It was then moved to Remembrance Sunday, but since the 50th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in 1995, it has become usual to hold ceremonies on both Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday.
Each year, the music at the National Ceremony of Remembrance remains the same, following a programme finalised in 1930:
Rule, Britannia! by Thomas Arne
Heart of Oak by William Boyce
The Minstrel Boy by Thomas Moore
Men of Harlech
The Skye Boat Song
Isle of Beauty by Thomas Haynes Bayly
David of the White Rock
Oft in the Stilly Night by John Stevenson
Flowers of the Forest
Nimrod from the Enigma Variations by Edward Elgar
Dido's lament by Henry Purcell
O Valiant Hearts by Charles Harris
Solemn Melody by Walford Davies
Last Post – a bugle call
Beethoven's Funeral March No. 1, by Johann Heinrich Walch
O God, Our Help in Ages Past – words by Isaac Watts, music by William Croft
Reveille – a bugle call
God Save The King
Other pieces of music are then played during the march past and wreath laying by veterans, starting with Trumpet Voluntary and followed by It's A Long Way To Tipperary, the marching song of the Connaught Rangers, a famous British Army Irish Regiment of long ago.
Following the end of the official service at the Cenotaph, a mammoth column more than 10,000-strong (some 9,000 of whom were veterans) began marching along Whitehall, saluting the Cenotaph as they passed, Parliament Street, Great George Street, Horse Guards Road and back to Horse Guard Parade. The Prince of Wales took the salute from the column on Horse Guards Parade.
In 2024 the column of veterans was led by the Royal Marines Association marking the 360th anniversary of their formation in 1664.

Operation AVRO is a forcewide initiative that delivers a surge of extra resources and specialist officers to a different district or policing priority within Greater Manchester each month.
This month saw the operation take place in the City of Manchester.
The operation targets crimes that members of the public in that district have told us give them the most concern.
Members of the press and key partners, including local representatives, are invited to attend Operation AVRO deployments to see results first-hand and conduct important multi-agency work, such as welfare visits.
More details on AVRO can be found by visiting gmp.police.uk and following us on social media.
You should call 101, the national non-emergency number, to report crime and other concerns that do not require an emergency response.
Always call 999 in an emergency, such as when a crime is in progress, violence is being used or threatened or where there is danger to life.
You can also call anonymously with information about crime to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Crimestoppers is an independent charity who will not want your name, just your information. Your call will not be traced or recorded and you do not have to go to court or give a statement.
You can access many of our services online at www.gmp.police.uk
Masada is an ancient fortification in the Southern District of Israel situated on top of an isolated rock plateau on the eastern edge of the Judaean Desert, overlooking the Dead Sea. Herod the Great built palaces for himself on the mountain and fortified Masada between 37 and 31 BCE. According to Josephus, the Siege of Masada by troops of the Roman Empire towards the end of the First Jewish–Roman War ended in the mass suicide of the 960 Sicarri rebels and their families hiding there.
Masada is deservedly one of Israel's most popular tourist attractions. I found it absolutely fascinating, enjoying both the remarkably extensive remains and the stunning views of Israel, across the Dead Sea and into Jordan. Crows are quite prominent on the site along with Tristram's Starling (as depicted earlier in my photostream).

The Pashupatinath Temple (Nepali: पशुपतिनाथ मन्दिर) is a Hindu temple dedicated to Pashupati, a form of Shiva. It is located in Kathmandu, Nepal near the Bagmati River. The temple was classified as a World Heritage Site in 1979. This "extensive Hindu temple precinct" is a "sprawling collection of temples, ashrams, images and inscriptions raised over the centuries along the banks of the sacred Bagmati river", and is one of seven monument groups in UNESCO's designation of Kathmandu Valley. The temple, considered one of the holiest pilgrimage sites for Hindus, is built on an area of 246 hectares (2,460,000 m2) and includes 518 mini-temples and a main pagoda house.
Pashupatinath temple is given a status of one of the most sacred Shiva Kshetras (abodes of Shiva) in Skanda Purana, and is also one of the Paadal Petra Sthalams (Tamil Tevara Sthalam) of Tevaram. The temple is considered to be the other half of Kedarnath Temple, both complementary to each other. The main temple priests are, as a tradition, Vedic Dravida Brahmin scholars from Karnataka educated by Śrī Śaṅkarāćārya Dakṣiṇāmnāya Pīṭha, Sringeri.
HISTORY
Pashupatinath Temple is the oldest Hindu temple in Kathmandu. The temple is considered to be pre-Vedic in its origin and according to Nepal Mahatmaya and Himvatkhanda of Skanda Purana, the deity here gained great fame as Pashupati. Pashupatinath Temple's existence is recorded as early as 400 CE. The ornamented pagoda houses the linga of Shiva. There are many legends describing how the temple of Aalok Pashupatinath came into existence here.
One legend says that Shiva and Parvati took the form of antelopes in the forest on the Bagmati river's east bank. The gods later caught up with him and grabbed him by one of his horns, forcing him to resume his divine form. The broken horn was worshipped as a linga, but over time it was buried and lost. Centuries later a herdsman found one of his cows showering the earth with milk, and after digging at the site, he discovered the divine linga of Pashupatinath.
According to Gopalraj Aalok Vhat, the temple was built by Prachanda Deva, a Licchavi king. Another chronicle states that Pashupatinath Temple was in the form of Linga shaped Devalaya before Supuspa Deva constructed a five-storey temple of Pashupatinath in this place. As time passed, the temple needed to be repaired and renovated. It is known that this temple was reconstructed by a medieval king named Shivadeva (1099–1126 CE). It was renovated by Ananta Malla adding a roof to it. Further temples have been erected around the two-storied temple, including the Vaishnava temple complex with a Rama temple from the 14th century and the Guhyeshwari Temple mentioned in an 11th-century manuscript, overtime. The current form of the temple was renovated in 1692 CE after the previous structures were affected by termites and earthquakes.
The main temple complex of Pashupatinath and the sanctum sanctorum was left untouched, but some of the outer buildings in the complex were damaged by the April 2015 Nepal earthquake.
ARCHITECTURE
This main temple is built in Newari architecture. The two-level roofs are of copper with gold covering. The temple rests on a square base platform with a height of 23m 7 cm from base to pinnacle. It has four main doors, all covered with silver sheets. This temple has a gold pinnacle (peak). Inside are two garbhagrihas: the inner garbhagriha or sanctum sanctorum is where the idol is placed, and the outer sanctum is an open corridor-like space.
DEITY
The sacro sanctum, or the main idol, is a stone Mukhalinga with a silver yoni base bound with a silver serpent. It is one metre high and has faces in four directions, which represent various aspects of Shiva; Sadyojata (also known as Barun), Vamadeva (also known as Ardhanareshwara), Tatpurusha, Aghora, and Ishana (imaginative).[16] Each face has tiny protruding hands holding rudraksha mala in the right hand and a kamandalu in the other. Unlike other Shiva lingams in India and Nepal, this lingam is always dressed in its golden vastram except during abhisheka, so pouring milk and Ganga Jal is only possible during the ritual through the main priests.
PRIESTS
Only four priests can touch the idol. Daily rituals of Pashupatinath are carried out by two groups of priests: the Bhatta and the Rajbhandari. Bhatta perform the daily ritual and can touch the lingam, whereas Rajbhandaris are helpers and temple caretakers who are not qualified to perform puja rituals or to touch the deity.
BHATTA
Bhatta are highly educated Vedic Karnataka Brahmin scholars from Karnataka. Unlike other Hindu temples, the priesthood of Pashupatinath is not hereditary. Priests are selected from a group of scholars. The chosen priest is sent to Kathmandu to perform puja and daily worship of Pashupatinath.
The current Bhatta priests of the temple are:
Ganesha Bhatta (15th head priest of the Pashupatinath Temple aka Mool Bhat) from Udupi.
Girisha Bhatta from Sirsi.
Narayana Bhatta from Bhatkal.
B.S Binaya Adiga-Bhatta
The current Bhatta priest of the Vasukinath Naag temple of Pashupatinath
RAGHAVENDRA BHATTA
RAJBHANDARIS
The Rajbhandaris are the treasurers, temple caretakers, and assistant priests of the temple. They are the descendants of helper priests brought up by early Bhatts, but were allowed to settle in Kathmandu valley and later assimilated into the existing Newar caste system of Rajbhandari – a high-caste Chathariya/Kshatriya clan of Kashyapa gotra. Their main task is to help the Bhatt priests and perform maintenance of the inner garbhagriha. They can have little or no Vedic knowledge but still qualify as assistant priests if they belong from the same family lineage and undergo some basic criteria like caste, gotra, lineage purity, and educational qualification. They work in a set of three and switch every full moon day. There are a total of 108 Rajbhandaris.
ENTRY
The temple courtyard has four entrances in the cardinal directions. The western entrance is the main entrance to the temple courtyard and the remaining three entrances are open only during festivals. The temple security (Armed Police Force Nepal) and the Pashupatinath area development trust are selective regarding who is allowed entry into the inner courtyard. Only practising Hindus of South Asian diaspora and Buddhists of Nepali and Tibetan diaspora are allowed into the temple courtyard. Practising Hindus of Western descent are not allowed into the temple complex and must go no further than other non-Hindu visitors. An exception is granted to Sikhs and Jains of Indian ancestry who may enter the temple complex. Others can look at the main temple from the adjacent side of the river and pay $10 (1,000 Nepali rupees) to visit the small temples located in the external premises of the temple complex.
The inner temple courtyard remains open from 04:00 to 19:00 for the devotees, but the inner Pashupatinath Temple is open from 05:00 to 12:00, for the morning ritual and viewing and from 17:00 to 19:00 for the evening ritual. Unlike many other Shiva temples, devotees are not allowed to enter the inner garbhagriha, but are allowed to watch from the exterior premises of the outer garbhagriha. The temple closing times change depending upon the season: in November, it closes at 18:30. In summers, it closes at 20:00.
ABHISHEKA
Main article: Abhisheka
The inner sanctum where the lingam is placed has four entrances: east, west, north, south. From 09:30 to 13:30, devotees can worship from all four doors. All four doors are also opened during abhisheka from 09:00 to 11:00. Abhisheka is done based on the direction the mukh is viewed.
FESTIVALS
There are many festivals throughout the year, such as the Maha Shivaratri and the Teej festival. Teej is one of the most celebrated festival at Pashupatinath Temple.
BUDDHIST PILGRIMAGE
Buddhists consider the temple complex as sacred, and is associated with numerous mahasiddhas such as Matsyendranath, Gorakhnath, Padmasambhava, Naropa and Tilopa. The temple area is believed to be the place where Gorakhnath opened up the practices of haṭha yoga to people from all walks of life. In Vajrayana Buddhism, the cremation zone of the temple complex falls under 'Lhundrup Tsek' or 'Spontaneous Mound charnel ground' and is revered among the eight great charnel grounds where Padmasambhava meditated and gained spiritual accomplishments. The two caves situated to the north of the cremation zone along the river banks are worshipped as the meditation caves of mahasiddhas Tilopa and his disciple Naropa. The caves are considered sacred as the site where Naropa received direct teachings from his master Tilopa and had the vision of Vajrayogini. Naropa was also the main teacher of Marpa, the founder of Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism who brought Vajrayana teachings to Tibet. Marpa, in turn, was the master of Milarepa, one of Tibet's most famous yogi.
CONTROVERSY
In January 2009, after the forced resignation by the chief priest of Pashupatinath temple, the Maoist-led government of Nepal "hand picked" Nepalese priests of Khas-Gorkhali ethnicity to lead the temple, bypassing the temple's long-standing requirements. This appointment was contested by the Rajbhandaris (temple caretakers) of the temple, stating that they were not against the appointment of Nepalese priests but against the appointment without proper procedure. After the appointment was challenged in a civil court, the appointment was overruled by the Supreme Court of Nepal, but the government ignored the ruling and stood by its decision, which led to public outrage and protests over a lack of transparency. A clash between the youth wing of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) and the protesting temple staff caused over a dozen injuries when some 100 Maoist cadres attacked the temple caretakers, though the maoists denied the attack. Lawmakers and activists from opposition parties joined protests, declaring their support for the Bhatt and other pro-Bhatt protesters. After long dissatisfaction and protest by Hindus both in and outside Nepal, the government was forced to reverse its decision and reinstate Bhatta priests
