1921 Rolls Mascot.
The story of the creation of the iconic Rolls Mascot is very interesting. It started with the desire of Lord Baron Montegu.
The very first Rolls-Royce motorcars did not feature radiator mascots; they simply carried the Rolls-Royce emblem. When Montagu commissioned his friend, sculptor Charles Robinson Sykes, who worked in London under the nobleman's patronage, to sculpt a personal mascot for the bonnet of his 1909 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost, Sykes chose Eleanor Velasco Thornton as his model. Sykes originally crafted a figurine of her in fluttering robes, having placed one forefinger against her lips – to symbolize the secret of their love affair. The figurine was consequently named The Whisper.
The Spirit of Ecstasy, also called "Emily", "Silver Lady" or "Flying Lady", was designed by English sculptor Charles Robinson Sykes, a graduate of London's Royal College of Art, and carries with it a story about secret passion between Montagu, second Baron Montagu of Beaulieu after 1905, a pioneer of the automobile movement, and editor of The Car Illustrated magazine from 1902, and the model for the emblem, Eleanor Velasco Thornton.
Eleanor (also known as Thorn) was the secretary of John Walter Lord Montegu, who fell in love with her in 1902 when she worked for him on the aforesaid motoring magazine. Their secret love was to remain hidden, limited to their circle of friends, for more than a decade. The reason for the secrecy was Eleanor's impoverished social and economic status, and that the Baron was already married.
By 1910 personal mascots had become the fashion of the day. Rolls-Royce were concerned to note that some owners were affixing "inappropriate" ornaments to their cars. Claude Johnson, then managing director of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, was asked to commission a more dignified and graceful mascot.
He turned to Sykes to produce a mascot which would adorn all future Rolls-Royce cars and become generic to the marque, with the specifications that it should convey "the spirit of the Rolls-Royce, namely, speed with silence, absence of vibration, the mysterious harnessing of great energy and a beautiful living organism of superb grace..."[2]
Sykes' brief from Claude Johnson had been to evoke the spirit of mythical beauty, Nike, whose graceful image was admired in The Louvre, but Sykes was not impressed. He felt that a more feminine representation might be apt.[citation needed]
It was again Miss Thornton whom he had in mind. Sykes chose to modify The Whisper into a version similar to today's Spirit of Ecstasy. He called this first model The Spirit of Speed. Later, Charles Sykes called it "A graceful little goddess, the Spirit of Ecstasy, who has selected road travel as her supreme delight and alighted on the prow of a Rolls-Royce motor car to revel in the freshness of the air and the musical sound of her fluttering draperies."
Royce was ill during the commissioning of the flying lady. He did not believe the figurine enhanced the cars, asserting that it impaired the driver's view, and was rarely seen driving one of his company's vehicles adorned with the mascot.
In February 1911 Sykes presented to Rolls-Royce the "Spirit of Ecstasy", which was easily recognisable as being a variation on the theme of "The Whisper". The similarity was hardly coincidental because the model for both had been Miss Thornton.
Eleanor died on 30 December 1915 when the SS Persia was torpedoed by a U-boat south of Crete. She had been accompanying Lord Montagu who had been directed to assume a command in India. He was thought to have been killed too, but survived and was saved after several days adrift in a life raft.

A photo of a female Robin feeding her two chicks. This nest is nestled under the overhang of my front porch roof. I stood outside from about 6AM to 7AM and captured a few feedings.
The most interesting was of the male Robin bringing food with the female sitting on the chicks.
With the low light of sunrise and a lens with maximum aperture of 5.6 zoomed out as much as possible, none of my shots were that sharp. I shot at ISO 1600 knowing that at 3200, there would be noticeable noise. I also needed to make a big crop.
I did some touching up in DPP (increasing exposure and lightening the periphery),

There is a lot that I like about camping. Primarily it is the simplicity and how basic it feels.
And of course, being right within a scene when the sun rises is pretty nice too.

This shrine is at the corner of Jackson and Magazine streets in New Orleans. A couple weeks ago I saw a woman placing flowers at this site (before this makeshift shrine had been constucted) and I asked the woman what was up. She said a woman named Vera from the neighborhood died following Katrina and her body lay at this site for 10 days before being taken away (I seem to recall a Times-Picayune photo that captured it).
(And remember, it DIDN'T flood in this part of town).

Hexham Bridge is a road bridge in Northumberland, England linking Hexham with the North Tyne valley. It lies north of the town of Hexham and is the main access to the A69 bypass.
The Tyne was crossed by two ferries called the east and the west boats. As a result of persistent agitation, a bridge was started in 1767 and completed in 1770. It was built by Mr Galt and consisted of seven arches. Less than a year later it was swept away in the great Tyne flood of 1771. In that flood, eight bridges shared the fate of Hexham. In 1774 a new attempt was made 46 metres to the west by Mr Wooler, an engineer who had been working on the new Newcastle bridge. Piles were sunk to carry the piers but work was abandoned on discovering that the "soil beneath the gravel was a quicksand with no more resistance than chaff". This first bridge, Hexham Old Bridge, was about 2 km upstream of the present bridge.
The authorities next approached John Smeaton, whose name as an engineer was famous. Henry Errington of Sandhoe was given the contract for the sum of £4,700, and work started in 1777. Although the half-completed piers were washed away the following year, work continued and the new bridge was opened to traffic in 1780. The Newcastle Chronicle, Saturday 8th July 1780 had "Saturday last, the passage along the New Bridge over Tyne at Hexham was opened, the Most Noble Errington was the first that passed it, who made a handsome present to the workmen." However, on 10 March 1782, there was a heavy fall of snow followed by a violent hurricane. The valleys of the north and south Tyne were inundated and the nine arches were completely overturned. They are still visible and act as a sort of weir. Robert Mylne, a famous architect and engineer, was called in to report on the feasibility of rebuilding Smeaton's bridge. He was eventually given the contract to build a fourth bridge, and the work was completed in 1793. It is listed as a Grade II* building by Historic England.

Sometimes simple is better.
Super frustrated with this long blade-like leaf not able retain the water droplets and not able to keep them as perfect round spheres. I would have it all set and then the droplets would shift and morph into each other and change right as I was about to start shooting.. And that's after a lot of other setup work had been done. I think the upper part of the leaf must have just gotten saturated with too much water and lost its ability to hold a ball of water the way I wanted it to.
But then sometimes it just works. Something very simple and plain is often better. Still working to understand the how and why of the way this works. Its science, but it can also be pretty!

China, Beijing,…autumn sunset over the Forbidden City, the “Zǐjinchéng”, in China now it is usually called Gùgōng, is the centre of Beijing. The Palace was for 276 years, 1368 –1644 the Chinese imperial palace from the Ming Dynasty & until the end of the Qing Dynasty, established in 1636 & ruling China from 1644 to 1912.
Built from 1406 to 1420, was it the home to twenty-four Chinese emperors, from the Ming dynasty & 1420 until the end of the Qing dynasty before the abdication of Puyi in 1912. The Palace served as the home of emperors, their family circle, as well as the ceremonial & political centre of Chinese government for over 500 years.
The 980 buildings complex with officially 9.999 rooms, as a room is considered the space between four pillars. The palace represents traditional Chinese impressive architecture, it influenced cultural & architectural developments in East Asia.
The whole complex was built without a nail or a screw only with dowels & interlacing, the general renovation which started in 2002 is done with same technics & craftsmanship as in past hundreds of years & will need a couple of more years, by the year 2020, 85% by 2020 to be finalized & open to the public. During the imperial centuries it was forbidden to build any house higher than the Palace buildings, hence during thunderstorms it was the main object in Beijing to be hit by lightning
After the establishment of the People's Republic of China in 1949, some damage was done to the Forbidden City as the country was flounced up in revolutionary fanaticism during the Cultural Revolution. However, further destruction was prevented when Ordered by Mao Zedong, the Premier Zhou Enlai, sent an army battalion to guard the Forbidden City to prevent further devastation.
Zhou Enlai was the first Premier of the People's Republic of China, Mao Zedong was the Chairman, founding father & intellectual leader of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
The Imperial Palace, built in only 14 years from 1406 to 1420, is a rectangle covering 720,000m2 with 961 mtr from north to south & 753 mtr from east to west. Crossing the Forbidden City through to the Tiananmen Gate, which is decorated with a portrait of Mao Zedong, the forecourt & the Meridian Gate to the north gate on Jingshan Hill it is a length of slightly more than 1,5 km. The Forbidden City is enclosed by a 7,9 mtr high & 6 mtr wide defensive wall, which has a circumference of 3,430km, surrounded by a 52 mtr wide ditch.
The Forbidden City is documented as one of the most important five palaces in the world, with an area of 72ha it is the largest & ancient palatial structure in the world
The palace is 960 mtr long & 750 mtr wide, has formally 9,999 rooms, a room being the space between four pillars. The Forbidden City is enclosed by an almost 8 mtr-high defensive wall, which has a circumference of 3,430km.
Since 1925, the Forbidden City has been under the charge of the Palace Museum, whose extensive collection of artwork & artefacts were built upon the imperial collections of the Ming & Qing dynasties.
Approximately 15 million tourists visit the palace every year.
About 25% of the museum's former collection is since the Chinese Civil War located in the National Palace Museum in Taipei, both museums descend from the same institution.

Serendipity is when you unexpectedly stumble across something good. And that is what happened yesterday when I was out walking on the moors with a friend and a Short-eared Owl popped up in front of us. Short-eared Owls usually breed on the Peak District Moors so I often see them in summer but they are pretty thin on the ground in winter. Most Short-eared Owls leave the higher ground to spend the winter in lowlands, especially around estuarine saltmarshes. Though the BTO Bird Atlas says that birds in the Uists, Orkneys and the Pennines appear to winter close to their breeding grounds, yet I rarely see them in winter. There was a bit of snow on the ground yesterday but not enough to hamper its hunting. We watched it for about five minutes, and it did appear to catch and eat something, then it slowly headed south and out of sight. I did manage some closer shots but I quite liked this one showing the winter moorland habitat.

This is a 4 images stitched panorama. I was hoping to have some good sunset lights. The cloudy weather never really go away within the 2 days I was there. And I think I truly experienced what it means by "There's no bad lighting!!". And sometimes what you don't expect might give you the most dramatic results. Like the lovely clouds that put this image into a different mood. Hope you can enjoy this place from the photo as much as I do!!
The mountain in the middle is Yukness Mountain, and one on the right is Mt. Schaffer
Hope you like it!

There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society where none intrudes,
By the deep Sea, and music in its roar:

From all I may be, or have been before,

Glen Coe is a glen in the Highlands of Scotland.
It lies in the southern part of the Lochaber committee area of Highland Council, and was formerly part of the county of Argyll. It is often considered one of the most spectacular and beautiful places in Scotland, and is a part of the designated National Scenic Area of Ben Nevis and Glen Coe. The narrow glen shows a grim grandeur.
The glen, approaching from the east on the main A82 road, is surrounded by wild and precipitous mountains. Further west at Invercoe, the landscape has a softer beauty before the main entrance to the glen. The main settlement is the nearby village of Glencoe located in Carnoch.
The name Glen Coe is often said to mean "Glen of Weeping", perhaps with some reference to the infamous Massacre of Glencoe which took place there in 1692. However, "Gleann Comhann" does not translate as "Glen of Weeping". In fact the Glen is named after the River Coe which runs through it, and bore this name long before the 1692 incident. The name of the river is believed to predate the Gaelic language and its meaning is not known. One possibility is that it was named after a tribe once living in the area; however this remains speculation.

Photographing Bee is a big challenge in photography.
I found this bee on the pink dahlia, my 1st impression is that this bee either sick or tire hiding in the petal that without pollens. then I attempt to move it. A soon as I use the stick to move this Bee, It began to move.
Then I found that the bee eyes are with pollens instead of the legs. I think this bee must be wounded otherwise the eyes would not be having pollens.
I am happy that at least I save one life. & This is a great shot.
Thanks for your view, comments & fave.
I appreciate it.

“Posh, is it Christmas Day tomorrow?” Asked Sky.
“No Sky, you have a few more sleeps before that happens. You also have some present buying to do.”
“You mean one has to give as well as receive presents?”
“Yes Sky, for every present you receive you should also give; plus, you should give presents to all your friends, even if they might forget to buy you a present.”
“Really Posh? That sound so complicated. It doesn’t even make sense and sounds very much like a hooman custom. Why buy someone a present that they probably don’t want and receive one you don’t want, when you could just buy yourself something you do want? Posh, how do I know what to buy them?”
“Well think of who it is for and then decide what you feel they might like to receive. It isn’t that difficult Sky, as Bertie and I do it every year.”
“I buy everyone honey Sky; I find that easiest.” Said Bertie.
“Yes, that sounds like a good idea then if they don’t like it, they can always hand it back and I can have it.” Agreed Sky.
“You could put a little more thought into it both of you. How about getting something different for everyone instead?” Asked Posh.
“There is a lot of them to buy for Posh, it would be difficult and very expensive.” Explained Bertie.
“That is a thought, who is paying for Christmas you two?” Asked Posh.
“What do you mean Posh? I just ask Sky to get when I need and he gets it for me.” Said Bertie looking at Sky.
“So, Sky, how do you get this honey for presents?”
“That is simple Posh, I add it to the man’s shop so it isn’t a problem. Don’t worry though, for I always add a few extra jars of honey on so we can leave him a few as a thank you.”
“No, that isn’t fair Sky; that way you are having the man pay for his own present. We should find another way to organise this present buying.”
“I have an idea Posh. If we ask nicely, perhaps Ellie will take us shopping on the moon and then we can get some marshmallows from the mines, some honeycomb from the caves and also some cheese. Ellie will want some bananas and also a load of chocolate buttons for taking us there but I can order that on the man’s next shopping order.”
“What a great idea Sky, we could then give some of the things away as presents and maybe let the man have some too and that way he wouldn’t be paying for his own present.” Said Bertie excited.
“Yes, and cards Posh, we could exchange the cards we were sent last year so as to cut down on paper waste. I mean, they were jolly fine cards and far too good to throw away.” Added Sky.
“That’s right Sky, and we won’t need to wrap the presents as they are so sticky that it would ruin good wrapping paper. We’ll leave a nice pile of honeycomb and hot marshmallows on the man’s pillow on Christmas eve so he can have a midnight feast before bedtime.” Agreed Bertie.
“We also need to get the tree in and put these decorations on it too, Bertie. So much to do.” Said Sky.
Posh looked at his two friends feeling confused and a little concerned.
“What’s wrong Posh, we’ve sort out Christmas for you?” They asked together.
“I don’t know, I’m sure there is a flaw in there somewhere but I just can’t place my paw on it right now.” Said Posh shaking his head slowly.

I've never imagined that someday I would have not one, but two orange kitties!
Joey was well behaved at the time for some reason. Maybe it's because I was holding a bag of treats and he was expecting some. There are times when he would get annoyed with poor Sunny for just being there near him, but this wasn't one of those moments.
Alas, they're not of the same age though. Joey is roughly 13 years old while Sunny is probably almost three. Sunny is a growing boy and his favorite hobby is eating. Although he's obviously well fed, Sunny's old habits die hard. He still forages the floor for anything that is edible to him.
He probably lived his early life roaming the neighborhood and hoping to get some food from compassionate neighbors. He knows what it means to be really hungry while Joey grew up with freely available food. I know Joey's history as a kitten but have no idea about Sunny's past. He just appeared outside my home one day, probably trying to mate with a very young black female cat without success.

Santi Bartolomeo e Gaetano is a Renaissance style, Roman Catholic church in central Bologna; it is located near the Two Towers, adjacent to the Strada Maggiore.
A church at the site dedicated to St Bartholemew had existed since the 5th century; it was likely built atop an even older church and housed Benedictine monks till the 16th century. The church was designed by Giovanni Battista Falcetti with elaboration by Agostino Barelli, and owes the awkward facade due to its construction in 1517 at the site of a palace begun by Andrea da Formigine, commissioned by a member of the Gozzadini. The project, which is seen in the single-story portico along the exterior, was interrupted after the death of the patron, soon after completion of what became the side portico.

----------------------------- JESUS ✝️ SAVES-------------------------------
SALVATION THROUGH FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST - ALONE!
12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."
❤️❤️ IT'S ALL JESUS AND NONE OF OURSELVES! ❤️❤️
16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the SALVATION of everyone WHO BELIEVES: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel a RIGHTEOUSNESS FROM GOD IS REVEALED, a righteousness that is by FAITH FROM FIRST TO LAST, just as it is written: "THE RIGHTEOUS WILL LIVE BY FAITH." (Romans 1:16-17)
16 KNOW that a man is NOT justified by observing the law, but by FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be JUSTIFIED BY FAITH in CHRIST and NOT by observing the law, BECAUSE BY OBSERVING THE LAW NO ONE WILL BE JUSTIFIED. (Galatians 2:16)
1. Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2. BY THIS GOSPEL YOU ARE SAVED, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
3. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4. that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5. and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. 6. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8. and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.
9. For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 11. Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed. (1 Corinthians 15:1-11)
7. Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9. I am the gate; whoever enters through me WILL BE SAVED. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10. The thief comes only to STEAL and KILL and DESTROY; I have come that they may have LIFE, and have it to the FULL. (John 10:7-10)
1 Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. 2 For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. 3 Since they did not know the righteousness that comes from God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. 4 Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.
5 Moses describes in this way the righteousness that is by the law: "The man who does these things will live by them." 6 But the righteousness that is by faith says: "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will ascend into heaven?'" (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 "or 'Who will descend into the deep?'" (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: 9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile--the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:1-13)
Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so WE might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH!
So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️
