Half Dome is the icon of Yosemite. It stands prominently at the head of this glacier-carved valley in California. Although its name would suggest that the other "half" of the dome is missing, it is generally assumed that the dome never had a significant other. Instead, its flat face was only made flatter during the Ice Age as glaciers ran down the valley.

“MS Pride of America is a cruise ship operated by NCL America, a division of Norwegian Cruise Lines, to sail itineraries in the Hawaiian Islands. Construction of the ship began in 2000 in the United States as part of a plan for a U.S.-built and U.S.-flagged cruise ship under Project America, but the project failed and she was eventually purchased by Norwegian Cruise Lines and completed in Germany. She was inaugurated in 2005, and was the first new U.S. flagged, U.S.-built (aside from the outfitting) deep water passenger ship in nearly fifty years since the SS Argentina of 1958.”

Dames Cave is a 1.2 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Brooksville, Florida that features a cave and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and birding and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

The Dames Cave area is located in the Citrus Tract portion of the Withlacoochee State Forest in Citrus County, Florida and are found on a western portion of the Brooksville Ridge physiographic region. This landscape is dominated by karst landforms including uvalas, dolines, solution valleys, and caves. Geologically, the caves are among the oldest in Florida.

The entrance trail to the Dames Caves is located off S Lecanto Hwy. Quite possibly there will be several cars already parked there, as these will be the only indicators that one of Florida's most unique and oldest cave systems is just a short jaunt off of this straight and narrow farm road. Parking is free, but is at your own risk, mainly because there are no designated parking spots. A short half-mile trail leads off into the Withlacoochee State Forest.

Once again, no trails are marked, but heading directly east will bring you to the opening of one of the most popular caves. Surrounded by several concrete posts and heavy gauge wire, the opening to Vandal Cave appears before your eyes. One of the best spot for pictures, this cave opening is actually an ancient roof collapse. Part of the roof is still connected and creates a land bridge that can be easily walked across by daring individuals. A small side cave allows access into the inner cave system. Once inside you can see why it is called Vandal Cave. Graffiti and other damage can be seen throughout, explaining why this cave system is so hard to find. Other smaller caves branch off from this Vandal Cave and range in a variety of difficulties of exploration from simple head ducking and flashlight exploring to belly-slinking and crawling through tight spots in the mud.

Vischering Castle (German: Burg Vischering) in Lüdinghausen, North Rhine-Westphalia is the most typical moated castle in the Münster (region) of Germany. This region has one of the highest German concentrations of castles, palaces and fortifications, Lüdinghausen having three by itself. The castle consists of outer defensive courtyard, defensive gateways, moat, drawbridge, main building and chapel. The sandstone walls, the red tile roofs as well as their reflection in the moat provide many harmonious views from the wooded surroundings.

Vischering Castle was built by Bischop Gerhard von der Mark to counter the second castle built by the Von Lüdinghausen family. It became the seat of the Droste zu Vischering Family. Droste is the local title for the hereditary noble administrators serving the Bishops of Münster. The moat is constantly replenished by a side-arm of the River Stever. The outer defensive courtyard contains the business and farm buildings. The main building is a horseshoe-shaped three-story structure with heavy outer wall. Its inner courtyard is closed off by the chapel and a lower defense wall. A castle keep is missing, having been removed during Renaissance renovations. Fire destroyed the castle in 1521. Rebuilding took place on the existing foundation. Windows and the addition of a large bay made the castle more liveable but diminished its defensive character. The whole site however retains the character of a feudal age moated castle. Damage from air attack during World War II was minor.

Vischering Castle houses the Münsterlandmuseum, an exhibit on knighthood for children, as well as a cafe-restaurant. It serves as a cultural center for Kreis Coesfeld. Visiting hours are provided in the first link below. Viewing the outside is possible at all times. The second link provides a more detailed chronology of the castle in German.

Oxburgh Hall is a moated country house in Oxborough, Norfolk, England, today in the hands of the National Trust. Built around 1482 by Sir Edmund Bedingfeld, Oxburgh has always been a family home, not a fortress. The manor of Oxborough came to the Bedingfeld family by marriage before 1446, and the house has been continuously inhabited by them since their construction of it in 1482, the date of Edward Bedingfeld's licence to crenellate. A fine example of a late medieval, inward-facing great house, Oxburgh stands within a square moat about 75 metres on each side, and was originally enclosed; the hall range facing the gatehouse was pulled down in 1772 for Sir Richard Bedingfeld, providing a more open U-shaped house, with the open end of the U facing south. The entrance, reached by a three-arched bridge on the north side, is dramatised by a grand fortified gatehouse, evoking the owner's power and prestige, though as fortification its value is largely symbolic; it is flanked by tall polygonal towers rising in seven tiers, with symmetrical wings extending either side that reveal nothing on the exterior of their differing internal arrangements. About 1835 the open end of the U was filled in with a picturesque, by no means archaeologically correct range that recreated the central courtyard. Other Victorian additions include the Flemish-style stepped gables, the massive southeast tower, the oriel windows overhanging the moat (illustration, left) and terracotta chimneys. Four towers were added to the walled kitchen garden. The hall is well known for its priest hole. Due to the Catholic faith of the Bedingfeld family, a Catholic priest may have had to hide within the small disguised room in the event of a raid. The room is reached via a trapdoor, which when closed blends in with the tiled floor. Unlike many similar priest holes, the one at Oxburgh is open to visitors. The hall is also notable for the Oxburgh Hangings, needlework hangings by Mary, Queen of Scots and Bess of Hardwick. Mary worked on these while imprisoned in England, in the custody of the Earl of Shrewsbury. The estate has a number of woodland walks, including a 'Woodland Explorer' trail. Oxburgh Hall is a popular location for film and television series, including brief appearances in the Dad's Army episode "Museum Piece", and later in You Rang, M'Lord?. It was the major setting for the 1994 television dramatisation of Love on a Branch Line, a novel by John Hadfield. It is a Grade I listed building, the highest-level designation.

"Búðakirkja is a small wooden church located on the south side of Snæfellsnes Peninsula- Iceland.

It is a local parish church that was first established in 1703 but the current church was built in1848.

The church is known for its beauty, both the building itself and in contact with the surrounding area.

The church is still used to this day, both for traditional church events for the parish, but also for other events like destination weddings, music events, and storytelling to name a few."

www.budakirkja.is/.

It was locked when we were there. Many original estates have their own churches so they pop up all over the countryside , not just in the towns.

The history of how Christianity was brought to Iceland in 999 is very interesting as was the conversion, with only a little bloodshed, from Catholicism to Lutheranism, also. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Christianity_in_Iceland

At this stage at the start of my tour I was starting to feel a bit sick with what turned out to be a sore throat and cough which plagued me whilst in Iceland.

One of the wonderful things about having a tour guide is that they can have a wonderful store of stories and understanding of the culture. Our Guide, Heidrun was born in Iceland and understood the culture, sagas, legends and landform intimately. She was an excellent guide.

Made with a macro filter on the 50mm. Don't like it much, ordered a extension tube, let's see if it makes it a bit better.

Here is another panorama of three of the KAT-7 radio-telescopes... captured shortly after sunset... at the SKA site near the Karoo town of Carnarvon.

These telescopes are very photogenic... and they look amazing when you stand right under them and look up through an ultra-wide-angle lens. The problem with this approach is that the more you tilt the lens upwards... the more the telescopes lean inwards... and the closer to the edge of the photo they are... the more they lean! This always looks very odd and unnatural to me... my brain simply can't accept it... so I always try to avoid leaning verticals in my own photos.

For me it was all about finding the balance between getting up as close as I could... while still minimizing distortion. Some of the distortion could be corrected with Photoshop's Lens Correction filter... but the more correction you apply... the more the pixels in the image get stretched and squashed... which is also something that I try to avoid at all cost.

I found the best compromise to be stepping back from the telescopes... and shooting panoramas with a slightly longer focal length... thereby giving the appearance of closeness... with considerably less distortion than when shooting with a wider lens.

Panorama, Nikon D800, Nikkor 14 - 24 mm at 19 mm, ISO of 100, aperture of f/14 with a 10 second exposure.

This waterfall is a truly beautiful place. Hidden in a cave at the end of a short canyon, is the kind of place where legends start, where naiads could live.

By the way, don't go there from Magozd, as I did. The path is nice but quite steep. There is another trail from a parking you find shortly after crossing Napoleon bridge going out of Kobarid to Dreznica. It's just 20 min. from there, mostly flat.

This is a huge crop ... taken with my 100mm macro lens from about 15' away. I just love these tiny hummers. They have a nest in the holly bush in the corner of my garden and are constant visitors year 'round at this feeder. The 'flower' on the feeder is only 2 1/2" diameter.

Happy Wednesday everyone ... many thanks for your visits and comments, dear friends and visitors.

This is a ridge in the Snowy Mountains in the Kosciusko National Park Australia. We were over halfway to our destination and I was lugging a 25kg pack so we had sit down to catch our breath - looked up and this ridge shrouded in cloud and I just had to pull out the camera and put on the 70-200mm lens - its damn heavy but its real handy in the mountains.

"There is a CP 8111 somewhere in Topeka that just got GTBs" is what a text I received in the morning read. A few hours later, I was driving over Kansas Ave. when I saw a headlight pulling out of the yard. A few minutes later, said headlight turned out to be that of the aforementioned 8111!

Sure enough, it was paired up with the KCS 4852, and it was one of the "chicken trains" that have been running to/from the Cargill elevator via UP Haulage Rights for years. Now, following the merger, these have transferred over to the CPKC, as evidenced by the consist here.

This is the last view I had of the Grand Canyon before plunging into its abyss for a descent of 1400m. It is a very beautiful park without being my favorite in the region.

Taking a moment to reflect on one's life is important. Things that seem important often aren't. Prayer. Take the time to do it. We don't have all the answers. When you take the time to reflect, you can focus on the issues to give to God and leave your worries in His hands.

San Miniato al Monte is a basilica in Florence, central Italy, standing atop one of the highest points in the city. It has been described as one of the finest Romanesque structures in Tuscany and one of the most scenic churches in Italy. There is an adjoining Olivetan monastery, seen to the right of the basilica when ascending the stairs.

St. Miniato or Minas was an Armenian prince serving in the Roman army under Emperor Decius. He was denounced as a Christian after becoming a hermit and was brought before the Emperor who was camped outside the gates of Florence. The Emperor ordered him to be thrown to beasts in the Amphitheatre where a panther was called upon him but refused to devour him. Beheaded in the presence of the Emperor, he is alleged to have picked up his head, crossed the Arno and walked up the hill of Mons Fiorentinus to his hermitage. A shrine was later erected at this spot and there was a chapel there by the 8th century. Construction of the present church was begun in 1013 by Bishop Alibrando and it was endowed by the Emperor Henry II. The adjoining monastery began as a Benedictine community, then passed to the Cluniacs and then in 1373 to the Olivetans, who still run it. The monks make famous liqueurs, honey and herbal teas, which they sell from a shop next to the church.

The interior exhibits the early feature of a choir raised on a platform above the large crypt. It has changed little since it was first built. The patterned pavement dates from 1207. The centre of the nave is dominated by the beautiful freestanding Cappella del Crocefisso (Chapel of the Crucifix), designed by Michelozzo in 1448. It originally housed the miraculous crucifix now in Santa Trìnita and is decorated with panels long thought to be painted by Agnolo Gaddi. The terracotta decoration of the vault is by Luca della Robbia.

The crypt is the oldest part of the church and the high altar supposedly contains the bones of St Minias himself (although there is evidence that these were removed to Metz before the church was even built). In the vaults are frescoes by Taddeo Gaddi.

The raised choir and presbytery contain a magnificent Romanesque pulpit and screen made in 1207. The apse is dominated by a great mosaic of Christ between the Virgin and St Minias on its vaulted ceiling dating from 1297; the same subject is depicted on the façade of the church and is probably by the same unknown artist. The crucifix above the high altar is attributed to Luca della Robbia. The sacristy is decorated with a great fresco cycle on the Life of St Benedict by Spinello Aretino (1387).

This is the weather to expect when you visit the Tombstone area in the northern Yukon. These Blackstone Uplands show a subarctic tundra environment due to the higher elevations. Lower elevations further north along the Dempster Highway return you to the northern taiga forest for 100s more kilometers until beyond Inuvik. I like the sunlit slopes and distant road curling to the right ahead, yet there's no visible break in the sky showing the source of sunlight.

----------------------------- JESUS ✝️ SAVES-------------------------------

SALVATION THROUGH FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST - ALONE!

12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."

❤️❤️ IT'S ALL JESUS AND NONE OF OURSELVES! ❤️❤️

16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the SALVATION of everyone WHO BELIEVES: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel a RIGHTEOUSNESS FROM GOD IS REVEALED, a righteousness that is by FAITH FROM FIRST TO LAST, just as it is written: "THE RIGHTEOUS WILL LIVE BY FAITH." (Romans 1:16-17)

16 KNOW that a man is NOT justified by observing the law, but by FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be JUSTIFIED BY FAITH in CHRIST and NOT by observing the law, BECAUSE BY OBSERVING THE LAW NO ONE WILL BE JUSTIFIED. (Galatians 2:16)

1. Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2. BY THIS GOSPEL YOU ARE SAVED, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

3. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4. that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5. and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. 6. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8. and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.

9. For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 11. Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed. (1 Corinthians 15:1-11)

7. Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9. I am the gate; whoever enters through me WILL BE SAVED. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10. The thief comes only to STEAL and KILL and DESTROY; I have come that they may have LIFE, and have it to the FULL. (John 10:7-10)

1 Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. 2 For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. 3 Since they did not know the righteousness that comes from God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. 4 Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.

5 Moses describes in this way the righteousness that is by the law: "The man who does these things will live by them." 6 But the righteousness that is by faith says: "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will ascend into heaven?'" (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 "or 'Who will descend into the deep?'" (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: 9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile--the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:1-13)

Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so WE might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH!

So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

The Billiard Room

Burghley House is a grand 16th-century English country house near Stamford on the Cambrigeshire/Lincolnshire border, built by William Cecil. The estate features magnificent State Rooms, art collections and grounds designed by Capability Brown.

William Cecil (later the 1st Baron Burghley) began building the house as a demonstration of his wealth and power and to establish a dynastic family seat, contruction began in 1555 and the house mostly comple by 1587. He was heavily involved in its design, which was intended to impress the Queen (Elizabeth I) and her court.

While the exterior largely retains its original Elizabethan look, the interiors were extensively remodeled in the Baroque style by the 5th Earl of Exeter in the late 17th century. This included commissioning the famous "Heaven Room" and "Hell Staircase" ceiling paintings by the Italian artist Antonio Verrio.

In the 18th century, the renowned landscape architect Lancelot 'Capability' Brown was employed by the 9th Earl to redesign the gardens and parkland. Brown created the sweeping vistas, the lake, and the Lion Bridge, even altering the house's structure to enhance the views.

The 6th Marquess of Exeter, a gold-medal-winning Olympic athlete immortalized in the film Chariots of Fire, oversaw significant modernization of the house, including the introduction of electricity. In 1961, he established the Burghley House Preservation Trust, a charitable trust that now owns and maintains the house, its contents, and the surrounding estate for the public's enjoyment.

Magellanic Woodpecker (Campephilus magellanicus) is a huge woodpecker that is in the same genus as the extinct Ivory-billed Woodpecker. To give an idea of size, the Great Spotted Woodpecker is about 8 inches (20cm) l0ng and weighs about 85g. But the Magellanic Woodpecker is about 16 inches (40cm) and weighs in at about 340g, though females are a bit smaller. This is a male with a red head while females are black-headed with a more prominent curly crest. They are only found in mature Southern Beech (Nothofagus) forests in the extreme south of South America where they are scarce and difficult to find. They have large territories and occur at low density and I had looked for them on four different occasions before I eventually caught up with them. But when I did see them I saw both male and female, and they weren't especially shy. Like many species in South America they are named after the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan (c1480-1521). I photographed this one in Tierra del Fuego National Park close to Ushuaia, the most southerly city on earth.

Built for a 30 minute LUG speed-build, where the theme was anything ‘Easter’. I decided to build the empty tomb, which is something I’ve wanted to try my hand at for a while now. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out, considering the time restraints.

The first generation of the Ford Thunderbird is a two-seat convertible produced by Ford for the 1955 to 1957 model year, the first 2-seat Ford since 1938. It was developed in response to the 1953 Motorama display at the New York Auto Show, which showed the Chevrolet Corvette. The Corvette in turn was developed in response to the popularity of European sports cars among Americans.

The new car was unveiled to the public on 20 February 1954 at the Detroit Auto Show. The car was the company’s first 2-seater Ford since 1938 and named, the Ford Thunderbird.

Ford Thunderbird production began in September 1954 and the car went on sale a few weeks later. Even before its release, it started a great furor in the automotive press, which had had its interest piqued by the promising but disappointing Corvette.

The 1957 Thunderbird was not cheap. With an initial list price price of $2,695, quickly raised to $2,944, it was around $1,200 more than a basic Ford Mainline six. Adding the convertible top, heater, radio, and other accessories quickly took the T-Bird’s price well over $3,000. A fully loaded Thunderbird topped out at around $4,000, which was enough to buy two modestly equipped Ford sedans or for that matter a Jaguar XK140, which was faster and handled better.

The ‘Little Bird’ Thunderbird was able to give to the masses what legendary automakers like Bugatti and Mercedes were able to build for the elite. Beautiful styling and high performance would no longer be out of the reach of the average American driver.

Ford had expected to produce only 10,000 cars during the first year, but sales exceeded that number and peaked at 16,155- the maximum that could be built at that time. 1957 sales were 21,380, including three extra months of production because the 1958 models were late. The 1957 Thunderbird was the last two-seater Ford sold until the 1982 Ford EXP sport compact car.

This is fan made music video I have been working on for quite some time on and off due to school. I wanted to know what my graphic design peeps thought about this, so I decided to upload a preview of it. The storyline behind the video is showing relationships fall in their own special ways. "Bleed Out", a song by Jason Derulo off of his amazing album Future History, is such an emotional song IMO, and I really wanted to capture the song in video. In this preview, you will see just small snippets of what the full video will be. I hope you like it and please give me any critiques you may have or just tell me what you think about it. This is just uploaded to my Flickr only, as I want to keep the happenings of this video away from YouTube at the moment. :P Plus I want to show my graphic design community another passion of mine, which is video editing! :D I really can't wait to hear what you all think of it!

...it's also for 'bloody damp, grey and miserable' which is our weather pattern at the moment and Bakewell, where I took the pic.

At least that's what I think that color is. I haven't seen a Crayola crayon in decades.

Vespula vulgaris is a eusocial vespid that builds its tan paper nest in or on a structure capable of supporting it. A founding queen searches for a hollow tree, wall cavity, rock crevice, or even a mammal-made hole to build a nest. One colony cycle lasts for about 6–11 months and each colony cycle produces around 3000–8000 larvae.

The extraordinary adaptation skills of V. vulgaris enable it to live in a wide range of habitats, from very humid areas to artificial environments such as gardens and human structures. This species, along with other wasp species such as V. germanica, has impacted the ecosystem, especially those in New Zealand and Australia, where they were imported by humans, and frequently cause damage to fruit crops and endanger humans.

Adult workers of V. vulgaris measure about 12–17 mm (0.5–0.7 in) from head to tip of abdomen, and weigh 84.1 ± 19.0 mg, whereas the queen is about 20 mm (0.8 in) long. It has aposematic colors of black and yellow; yellow pronotal bands which are almost parallel to each other and black dots and rings on its abdomen. The queens and workers appear very similar to Vespula germanica, except when they are seen head on, as the V. vulgaris face lacks the three black dots of V. germanica. Instead, each has only one black mark on its clypeus, which is usually anchor or dagger-shaped. This applies to queens and workers only. In addition, identification of this species may be difficult because the black mark on its clypeus can sometimes appear broken, making it again look similar to V. germanica. It is prudent to use multiple identifying characteristics and if in any doubt to consult experts.

Still more difficult to distinguish between species are the males. Almost undetectable with the naked eye, the only confident identification of V. vulgaris males is to seek the distinct aedeagus tip shapes and lateral processes of their genitalia.

Here is my view as I sip my first cup of coffee and listen to the singing cardinals, wrens, finches, chickadees and vireos. Life is good.

The Holy Island of Lindisfarne is a tidal island off the northeast coast of England. It is also known just as Holy Island. It constitutes the civil parish of Holy Island in Northumberland. Holy Island has a recorded history from the 6th century. It was an important centre of Celtic Christianity under Saints Aidan of Lindisfarne, Cuthbert, Eadfrith of Lindisfarne and Eadberht of Lindisfarne.

The castle is located in what was once the very volatile border area between England and Scotland. Not only did the English and Scots fight, but the area was frequently attacked by Vikings.

The castle was built in 1550, around the time that Lindisfarne Priory went out of use, and stones from the priory were used as building material. It is very small by the usual standards, and was more of a fort. The castle sits on the highest point of the island, a whinstone hill called Beblowe.

The island is accessible from the mainland at low tide by means of a causeway.

San Francisco is one of my favourite cities in the world…I would probably rank it at the top or near the top. It’s small but photogenic and has layers…You never have problems finding great angles that people have never done. (Ang Lee)

Lac de Petichet is a natural lake located at only 40mn drive from Grenoble, that offers a stunning view on the Obiou mountain, one of the local's favorite.

This is Batman. The title is a reference to Koko the gorilla, who was taught American sign language. She combined words that she knew to refer to a kitten as "all ball". I've always loved that.
