“Trying not to believe things when in your heart you are almost sure they are true, is as bad for the temper as anything I know.”

E. Nesbit

This male spar visits almost every day. On this occasion, the small passerines had seen his approach, and their survival instincts kept them safe.....for now.

I tend to go in really close with the macro lens and loose the beauty of the setting. This time I tried shots from further out before getting in close.Another Orange Tip [Anthocharis cardamines] captured this morning. Worth a look at full size, for the dew drops.

Black Skimmer chick ran and jumped into this little depression making him almost invisable. It is amazing how the natural instincts of these very young chicks help them survive on an open beach. Taken on the NE end of Marco Island Florida.

My first good train chase in a hot minute came yesterday on the WNYP. I haven't seen my buds in a long while, so when one gave me a heads up on a Saturday run I was set on coming down for a chase. What I didn't realize is the solid cloud cover predicted in the forecast would give way to one of the more dynamic days of weather I've experienced in recent memory. Clouds to sun, sun to hail, hail to rain, and even some damn snow. All weather cooperated with the planned shots, but sometimes you gotta slam the brakes when you see something opening up. That's the case with this shot, as I saw a gap open up along the ROW as I was neck and neck with the bastards, so I pulled off immediately with safety in mind of course. The pair of neutered AC6000's raced into the frame right away, giving me only enough time to snap off a few quick ones before they and the sun had left my viewfinder. Only after I stopped next and checked the shot was when I realized there was a small storm cell looming over the train that makes the whole damn shot. This railroad is a fun time.
