Gemma: I'll just put a blanket over her just in case. The forecast said nothing about more snow, but I'm feeling it in my bones.. or something.
Hannah: In your bones? Ha ha! Do you want me to help you with that nana, or is your arthritis fine to day?
Gemma: Mock me all you want 'Miss Shampoo Girl'.
Hannah: Touché! At least I don't have it in my joints, ha ha!
Gemma: Dolly is becoming of age, I'm probably just being overprotective. Well, it can't hurt right?
Hannah: Follow your bones girl! I'm going to follow my instinct and groom Stella.
I tried something different. I tried to make the clouds and sky more dramatic. Hopefully, you will like it.

Nine times out of ten Milo and Misty pretty much ignore the people walking by their enclosure but at times a person and usually a child will pipe their interest and Misty more so will watch them intensely and even stalk them.
Amari is now doing the same.
He is still a little timid around big people but when it comes to toddlers who are just starting to walk they get his full attention and he will lay his head low and flatten his ears and slowly creep towards them.
I just love his little face in this photo. Serious stalking going on.

This female mallard took great care to keep herself between me and her family of 8 very young ducklings on a little stream in Osmington. Dad was nowhere to be seen, probably having a lie in.
Although she was wary of me being there, I was pleased I'd happened by on my early morning walk. When I turned around to leave, a huge fox was walking towards us. He and I were both so surprised that he turned tail and fled, and I didn't get a photo!! But it could have been a worse morning for the ducks...
Things are looking up ... the weekend has arrived! To the burrowing owl, looking up has a whole other meaning. It's a matter of instinct ... it's a matter of survival.
See, these little burrowing owls, though they themselves are birds of prey, are quite vulnerable to other larger birds of prey that fly over them. They learn very early on even as young owlets of the danger that lurks around them. From a parents alert call, they learn to instantaneously retreat to the safety of the burrow when a threat exists. That survival instinct and behavior stays with them their entire life.
Burrowing owls are quite inquisitive about the world they live in as well. So sometimes, this "looking up" is to check out the airplane overhead ... or to follow the helium balloon that someone's child just lost ... or to track insects that fly nearby. I find it utterly amazing how natural and second nature these behaviors become. Jokingly, I always tell them to relax when I'm around ... that nothing will happen to them on my time ... but the fact is that they spot predators LONG BEFORE I even see them, Amazing!

Lots of Cottontails this year ! We saw this guy at King Gillette Ranch. I had to take an image - his ears were so large and so perfect (also a wonderful "mustache") !! Of course, bunnies don't actually seem to hear very well or they REALLY, REALLY lack all survival instincts !!

i haven't posted in almost two weeks.
i don't think i've ever been absent for that long?
i don't know why, nothing's really inspired me enough to upload it.
but here i am with (hopefully) lots of new work! today i went to The Center for Birds of Prey where they were having their photography day, and i was able to photograph a multitude of falcons, eagles, and as you can see here, owls. all the birds were so beautiful, and i'm so happy to be able to get lots of shots that i wouldn't be able to normally. wildlife photography is fun! haha
so, if you guys don't mind seeing more pictures of all the birds, i'll upload some more of them throughout the week! this is the only real conceptual photo i planned, but i may use some of the pictures as stock images and stuff like that in the future. <3
This is my 3rd of 12 image for 12:12 Men. An instant film project with 11 other photographers around the world that take an image every month with a constant theme. It is a challenge for each of us to create something each month based on that theme. 12 different views each month for an entire year. Portraiture is my love and will definitely be a recurring theme in this project for me. This months theme was Animal Instinct. I have always been attracted to knowledge over most things so when I thought about what animal instinct I would most resemble, it would be an owl.

Another leaping salmon shot from Stainforth Force. There were still lots jumping the falls today, easily as many as there were last Monday and again it was a brilliant spectacle! I noticed that the salmon I saw today were more colourful and imagine that's down to the length of time the fish have been in the river system with its peaty water.
