Created from cutting the branches through installing and polishing the floor, concurrently to the Hurricane Katrina and the devastation wrought in New Orleans. Yet I was unaware of the rolling news, busy making this. When I emerged and saw the media I shivered at what I had made as the disaster had happened thousands of miles away.
Łódź will be one of the main hubs of the Delivery Network, that's why so many servers are necessary.

i am really interested in how context alters a piece of art and vice versa. i use the same group of objects within my installations, bringing in others found on site. the expectations and connotations brought to the piece are very different depending on the situation eg: a gallery, shop or outdoors. with this ongoing set of work i am interested in how this affects the reading of the piece.
* this piece is meant to be stumbled accross. placed in a run down shopping arcade just out of the city centre, i wanted the piece to draw the attention of shoppers, maybe people who don't go out of their way to see art. this type of setting ensures a different interpretation than a gallery setting.

A collaboration between Goldsmiths PhD art candidates Elly Clarke and Andrea Khora involving method swapping, (consensual) handing over of agency and (financial) investment in the process.

Artist A hands over agency + three images + four key words to Artist B who hands over partial agency to VQGAN + Clip which exports 4000 .png images + one .mp4 moving image file which Artist B hands back to Artist A along with their own .png image folder + .mov + .mp4 files and agency, which Artist A inputs to DJ Pro. There, all media is mixed together over a period of approximately 15 mins to the sounds of Laurie Anderson, Wolfram, Stefflon Don, HVOB, Kraftwerk and others. This is exported as a .mov file from which Artist A takes a series of screenshots that are shared with Artist B. From these, three images are selected for print. Meanwhile Artist B hands over some of the same words given to VQGAN + Clip and more agency to GPT-2 out which the title Yeah, I was in this costume a few times! [spoilers.] Do you remember when we met? was generated.
This installation of images and silks is part of the PhD Art Programme’s Installation series, which artist researchers at Goldsmiths use as an experimental space to test new things out and as a catalyst for conversations around art as research, research as art and materiality / things in real space. This is our first collaboration.
My work covers a range of content. I am inspired by religion, sex, garbage, beauty, love, time, systems, activities, nature and the weather. I usually twist these elements together to assemble something I hadn’t expected or seen. I suppose that makes it abstract with a twist. Belief systems usually unravel if you look at them to closely. I like to look closely. That is a starting place. Apply it to a set of circumstances to complicate the issue and let curiosity and suspicion finish the job. It should be pretty.

Hashimoto Contemporary is pleased to present Homeward Bound the debut solo exhibition of Oakland-based artist Christopher Martin. Utilizing the visual vernacular of traditional American tattooing, Martin interweaves imagery from the African Diaspora, his own mythology and iconic navy tattoos to create bold banners and paintings.
Working across mediums including tattooing, textile and painting, each facet of Christopher Martin’s practice informs the others. Imagery commonly found in traditional sailor tattoos are prevalent influences for the current body of work featured in Homeward Bound. The history and superstition embedded in archetypical nautical motifs such as anchors, mermaids and animals are re-coded to reflect the history and stories of the African American experience.
The reclamation of cotton as a primary medium, applied in the large-scale tapestry works and the fiber based paintings on paper, reflect the Atlantic slave trade and the artist’s North Carolina roots. Steeped in Southern and Black history, Christopher Martin’s work layers the confrontation of contemporary injustice and folkloric storytelling to create a new lexicon for black culture.
