Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations, Energy and Environment, the Honorable Katherine Hammack visits Area I on a tour of garrisons that
will take her across Korea from the DMZ to Daegu.
Ms. Hammack is the primary advisor to the Secretary of the Army on installation policy, energy security and environmental initiatives. She is
touring Army camps and facilities here, and she will be meeting with both Army and installation management senior leaders as part of her oversight of installation policy for Department of the Army.

This is an Installation of Austrian female artist franka wurzer. This exhibition contained over 700 images sewed together to 101 tiles with 7 images each.
The installation went off without a hitch. Well, aside from me forgetting to pack the mac mini, the print company forgetting to send one of the prints and the other 7 prints were the wrong size so they needed to be reprinted and reshipped, and us getting the installation (finally) working 6 minutes before the opening. Scary! But fantastic.

oh so 70's feminism. complete with vulvas and very few women of color. sigh. still, as a piece of history (don't make me say herstory), it was relatively moving and i'm glad i went to see it.

Fernando Botero is a Latin American painter, sculptor, and draftsman who depicts the comedy of human life—moving or ironic, baroque in expression, sometimes with a mocking observation, and sometimes with a deep, elementary emotion. He has created a world of his own with a particular blend of violence and beauty. This exhibition represents the first retrospective of the artist’s work in North America since 1974. Included will be 100 paintings, sculptures, and drawings culled from the artist’s private collection. Many works have never been exhibited in public. The exhibition is organized and circulated by Art Services International, Alexandria, Virginia. Dr. John Sillevis from the Gemeentemuseum, The Hague, curated the exhibition.
One of my favourite subjects came accompanied by an interesting backdrop this Thursday morning: workmen suspended from a tall crane were hanging Christmas lights on the big Douglas-fir in front of the Legislature. Perhaps I'll get out one evening soon to capture the look of the tree festooned with red and green lights.

Hashimoto Contemporary is pleased to present Homeward Bound the debut solo exhibition of Oakland-based artist Christopher Martin. Utilizing the visual vernacular of traditional American tattooing, Martin interweaves imagery from the African Diaspora, his own mythology and iconic navy tattoos to create bold banners and paintings.
Working across mediums including tattooing, textile and painting, each facet of Christopher Martin’s practice informs the others. Imagery commonly found in traditional sailor tattoos are prevalent influences for the current body of work featured in Homeward Bound. The history and superstition embedded in archetypical nautical motifs such as anchors, mermaids and animals are re-coded to reflect the history and stories of the African American experience.
The reclamation of cotton as a primary medium, applied in the large-scale tapestry works and the fiber based paintings on paper, reflect the Atlantic slave trade and the artist’s North Carolina roots. Steeped in Southern and Black history, Christopher Martin’s work layers the confrontation of contemporary injustice and folkloric storytelling to create a new lexicon for black culture.
installation detail: looking into the mini gallery within a gallery space. the photos are pinned to the wall with Tpins. they are digital prints (photographed with a Holga in a studio onto film, then scanned, then printed) sewn onto hand dyed arches cover. these hand sculpted ceramic hearts are each hand sculpted from a brooklyn red clay body, fired at ^9, and suspended from aluminum chain from the ceiling of the gallery in the center of an 8x8 foot room made from temporary walls. the interior is painted blood red.
from my BFA thesis show, Transgression, which was installed in the Main Gallery (3rd floor) of Northern Kentucky University's Fine Arts Building in April 2005.
