İsabey Mosque, constructed in 1374–75, is one of the oldest and most impressive works of architectural art remaining from the Anatolian beyliks. The mosque is situated on the skirts of the Ayasluğ Hills at Selçuk, İzmir, Turkey. I visited the city as a one-day trip when I attended a conference in Izmir in October 2012. I took the bus to here and returned by train. Of all the exiting sights in the area, this mosque was the one that I liked the most...

The İsabey Mosque was built by the architect Şamlı Dımışklıoğlu Ali in honor of the Aydinid İsa Bey. In the 19th century, it was also used as a caravanserai.

The mosque has two main entrances, to the east and to the west. The western wall has inscriptions and geometric shapes engraved. These walls are covered with marble, whereas the façades on the remaining sides are made of cut stone. It is built asymmetrically on a 48-by-56-meter base. The rims of its domes, with diameters of 9.4 metres and 8.1 metres, are decorated with İznik (Nicaea) tiles. Twelve round columns stand inside its courtyard encircled with porches. Its brick minaret is built on an octagonal base, and the upper part from the balcony is ruined. The mosque had another minaret on the west, which is totally destroyed now. The mihrab (niche or altar) was moved to another mosque, due to a door opened there.

It occurred to me that while I was taking pictures of the Legislature Buildings that I should turn around and take one of the Inner Harbour.

Inner City Press was founded in 1987 to provide advice and assistance to those looking to move into and fix up abandoned buildings in the Bronx and Harlem, of which there were many at the time. Sadly, the annals of urban squatting are filled with tales of heartbreak (along with the occasional triumph), wherein people on the bottom rung of society work tirelessly to clean up and rehabilitate a rotting building, only to later be thrown out by the authorities.

An areal of the New Inner harbour of Copenhagen. Until about 10 years ago, most of this area was either industrial area or laying out as abandoned because the factories shot down. A big effort from Town government trying to get a uniform area, and some serious thoughts from architects have made the area into a buzzing vibrant integrated area in Copenhagen

Early morning hike on Inner Basin Trail, San Francisco Peaks.

2009-05-30: Saturday evening, we were sitting on the front porch after our evening walk, enjoying a cup of chai and watching the sun set. There had been rain during the late afternoon, and heavy clouds had descended over the Peaks, hiding the mountain from view. The clouds had lifted in time for our evening ritual, and we noticed there was new snow on the upper tips of the Peaks. As we sipped our tea, we joked “If we were really motivated, we’d get up early, hit the Inner Basin Trail at dawn, and get some good photos before the snow melts off…”

2009-05-31: …so, at 4:00AM we stumbled out of bed, grabbed some coffee, got dressed, grabbed more coffee and rolled out the door around 4:30AM. We drove up the mountain, and hit the trail around 5:15AM. There was a bit of a breeze making the hike rather chilly. Everything was wet and green, and the aspens created a delectable aroma. Past Jack Spring (1.5 miles from the trailhead) we hit the frost line, and the vegetation sparkled (and the air was noticeably chillier). We arrived at the Inner Basin (the point where there’s a shelter and pumphouse, and all the Peaks are visible) around 6:45AM. We’d expected some shade still at that hour, and were delighted to discover the sun was shining right up through the low point in the Peaks (the north-eastern side, where the wall was blown out during an eruption), lighting up the entire Inner Basin for us. We wandered around a bit capturing various shots, then headed back to attend to our day’s activities.

Gotta find your inner strength

If you can't then just throw life away.

Gotta learn to rely on you.

Beauty, strength, and wisdom, too.

You're beautiful inside and out.

Lead a great life without a doubt

Don't need a man to make things fair,

'cause more than likely he won't be there.

Listen girl, gotta know it's true:

In the end all you've got is you
