City Life/Vida Urbana members and community activists for the third week in a row protested outside of the Boston Housing Court. Protesters assert that taxpayer owned banks, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, have been evicting families ‘no fault’ at alarming rates in Boston and throughout Massachusetts. Four people including longtime housing activist and one-time mayoral candidate Mel King committed civil disobedience in front of the courthouse and were arrested.
The group is pressing for a stop no fault evictions until Mel Watt is confirmed to the FHFA. Ed DeMarco is the current head of FHFA, which oversees Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. DeMarco has resisted community-stability based solutions to the foreclosure crisis, such as principal reduction or long-term rent contracts. Pres. Obama has nominated Congressman Mel Watt to replace DeMarco. These government sponsored enterprises are 79% owned by taxpayers and they are currently among the largest mass evictors within the state, displacing thousands of working-class people and eviscerating communities of color. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac own over half of mortgages in Massachusetts.

Now onto Stater Bros post #6 in a row. I know I have done a lot of content on Stater lately but bear with me here.
This is another Statersons, but it is much older than #129 and #135. This store opened as an Albertsons in 1971 and remained an Albertsons until it was divested in 1999 in favor of a new Albertsons land site, which they built a new store on and opened in 2006, this store being Albertsons #140 which I have posted previously. Now we see the original Downey Albertsons in its Stater form.
This store underwent two major remodels, one in 2006 which extensively renovated the store out of the old Albertsons Blue and Grey to its Blue Ribbon/American Tradition interior. The 2006 renovation also included a brand new rebuilt facade to replace the old Albertsons one, and a complete reconfiguration of the store. The second remodel took place in 2021, overhauling the stores interior to the same as #206 in Whittier, essentially removing anything left of Albertsons that the 2006 remodel left behind. I find it interesting how some Statersons barely received any remodel, some had none at all in 25 years, while this one has had two major renovations, and others like Whittier relocating into a brand new replacement store.
This store was insanely busy the day I visit since Super Bowl Sunday was the next day's some of these pictures may not be that great :(

These chubby cheeked cherubs are part of a stair railing in the old Davenport Hotel in Spokane, Washington.
The Davenport Hotel has been world famous since it opened in September of 1914. It was the first hotel with air conditioning, a central vacuum system, housekeeping carts (designed by Louis Davenport himself), accordion ballroom doors and Crab Louis (named for Louis Davenport). Gilded with gold, sparkled by crystal and illuminated throughout with "electroliers," it was as grand as the finest ocean liners of the day.
For the sixth year in a row Airlie Gardens, in Wilmington, N.C., is excited to host their summer art exhibit, July 7th-October 28th 2018! Airlie Gardens has selected artists or teams of artists to decorate, paint, and otherwise adorn one of the 15 oversized 5-foot-tall fiberglass Garden Gnome models. These Garden Gnomes are placed throughout the grounds for guests to enjoy as part of their garden experience. The hope for this outdoor exhibit is it will be a collection that appeals to all. The artists' designs were selected based on creativity, craftsmanship, use of materials, the ability to appeal to all age groups, outdoor sustainability and durability. The exhibit is included in general garden admission and free for Airlie Members.
Congratulations to our 2018 Exhibit Artists!

Here are the 4 mini felt pics I made on order, for a nice lady in the US. She'll be hanging them in her kitchen, along with another one she had bought me. (tomatoe themed) It's now been shipped.
Everything was free-hand.

My first "proper" family portrait shoot. They were fantastic and so cooperative I couldn't believe my luck - but I did know them - they're friends. Even the dog did everything I said!
Variations below - two different black and white conversions - which do you prefer?
This is my second notebook computer in a row that came with Linux preinstalled. Unlike the last one, this one comes with a few issues and is not fit for new users of Linux.
This is made from 15 exposures.
A couple of mopeds are parked in an area near a busy corner packed with bistros, cafes, and a few ethnic restaurants (mostly Greek, Lebanese, and Italian).
If you're determined to drive around the city, I suggest using one of these (a Vespa comes to mind), since they're small and much easier to maneuver in a busy city.
Another opportunistic shot taken with my 200mm lens. I loved the way the geese are all lined up with the same spacing and same wing position. Reminded me of the iconic flying ducks on Hilda Ogden's wall from Coronation Street. Except I think one of Hilda's was cocked at a funny angle.
These are Pink-footed Geese that winter in large numbers on the Lancashire coast. They breed in Greenland and Iceland, migrating to Britain for the winter.
