The PIZZERIA is completely full and i'm starving (in Norway i usually eat around 19, when is late!). Our waiting time is used by me for shoot some photos to this super fast PIZZAIOLO. He was working so fast that I could not really follow his hands. Very interesting. I was like a "tourist" at home :)

Raindrops in my garden.

For the second year in a row a group of American wounded soldiers toured Israel on bikes with the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP). Their ten day “Soldier Ride” took them from the banks of the Dead Sea to the Western Wall in Jerusalem to the northern border with Syria. More than a tour, this program is intended to build community among the veterans to heal emotionally and physically. For most participants, it was their first trip to Israel. In touching encounters with wounded Israeli IDF soldiers, these visiting Americans learned how much we have in common.

On the last leg of their journey, from Jaffa Port to Hayarkon Park in Tel Aviv, the warriors were joined en masse by employees of the U.S. Embassy, their families, and students and teachers from the American International School in Even Yehuda. The ride culminated in a BBQ picnic in the park hosted and organized by the U.S. military attaché’s and their spouses.

Proud to be the photographer for this program. 5th MMHSAA championship, no states this year.

For the fourth year in a row, the Stellar Awards night honored the best of the best in middle schoolers.

The honorees rolled up to the red carpet at North High School in limousines before receiving their awards. The categories awarded to students ranged from "Most Inquisitive" to "Best Citizen" to "Perfect Attendance."

It was a night of ovations for the youth that lead by example as they strive to be the best they can be.

4 hours of class in a row can be rough [especially when the professors teaching the second block think that a specified class end time is more of a suggestion than a cut off and consistently run at least 10 minutes over] BUT it is significantly easier when r-week dinner w/Esther is at the end. Tonight's feast was at Mercer Kitchen, which, I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by - in fact, it might be one of my favorite r-week meals. Many things sounded good (and were edible for me!), normal sized portions, and really good drinks - can't ask for more than that. Even though they tried to put us at a table in the coat check [seriously]. And even though the host assumed my name was Rubenstein - seriously? Also Esther graciously gave me these sneakers from Opening Ceremony since for some unclear reason they wouldn't go on Ebay. Yes, they are this green, but so cute!

Mooresville, NC – goo.gl/qbDzFe As it is every year, the SEMA Show's sheer size and influence on the entire universe of aftermarket automotive products delivered in a big way. With the SEMA show running through Friday followed by the SEMA Ignited after show and of course the Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational, it was a full week of non-stop action at every turn. See all the photos here www.detroitspeed.com/SpeedNews/SEMA-OUSCI-2015-recap/SEMA...

The SEMA show started Tuesday morning with hundreds of companies bringing in some of the best aftermarket builds in the country to show off their parts and hard work. Anything you could imagine is at the SEMA show, from Hot Rods to the latest in modern performance, there was no shortage of things to see. The Detroit Speed booth was packed day in and day out.

The Detroit Speed crew had Moe's 1969 Charger at the HRIA booth and also had Moe’s 1970 Chevelle on hand at SEMA central and immediately received lots of attention. The team from BCIITV were on hand Tuesday with the Chevelle shooting footage for Competition Ready, the new TV show from Velocity that will air early in 2016. The team followed the Chevelle around all week capturing footage of the run to the Top Ten of the Battle of the Builders, being named a finalist for the Mother's shine award as well as capturing a GM Best G-Machine award. Unfortunately the Chevelle didn't make the top 3 but we were all still very proud of the accomplishments and recognition it garnered throughout the week. Detroit Speed also had the CDV (Cool Delivery Vehicle) that was located at the Mother's Polish booth, came in handy, and received a nice plaque from General Motors. Congratulations to Bobby Alloway for winning the competition. Now Moe's Chevelle wasn't the only Detroit Speed built car making some waves, Moe's 1969 Charger was invited to participate in the Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational following the SEMA show at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Along with the Charger and the Chevelle, Detroit Speed were well respresented with Detroit Speed "Equipped" cars on the show floor and at OUSCI. We would also like to take a moment to congratulate Tim and Cici Spencer. Tim's Detroit Speed "Equipped" 1969 Mustang won the Mother's Shine award. Tim's Mustang spent some time at DSE early in its life.

With the inclusion of the Charger, Detroit Speed now had three cars in the competition to be named the Ultimate Street Car for 2015. Kyle Tucker drove his trusty Detroit Speed 1970 Camaro while Ryan Mathews drove the Detroit Speed 2012 White Monster Camaro. Test Car foreman, Matt Butts, who was out to oversee the 1970 and 2012 ended up becoming the driver of the Charger and performed rather well driving the newly completed monster of a Charger. Before the competition started Kyle was awarded with his GTV class championship trophy and his overall class champion trophy. The competition was stiff as classes were wiped out for this competition and everyone competed in one big field. Danny Popp came away with the victory for the 2nd time in a row.

Ryan will now turn his focus to the Goodguys Scottsdale Autocross Finals taking place November 20th - 22nd. Kyle already captured the 2015 Goodguys Pro Class points championship and sets his sights on the autocross finals. Unfortunately with the Baja 1000 calling his name, Kyle will not be able to compete in the Scottsdale finals.

A row of ready and finished Ganesha idols :)

Preparations on for Ganesh Chaturthi, an Indian festival.

Looking forward to those 11 days buzzing with positivity and prayer.

A little about Ganesh Chaturthi:

Ganesha Chaturthi, the great Ganesha festival, also known as 'Vinayak Chaturthi' or 'Vinayaka Chavithi' is celebrated by Hindus around the world as the birthday of Lord Ganesha. It is observed during the Hindu month of Bhadra (mid-August to mid-September) and the grandest and most elaborate of them, especially in the western India state of Maharashtra, lasts for 10 days, ending on the day of 'Ananta Chaturdashi'.

A life-like clay model of Lord Ganesha is made 2-3 months prior to the day of Ganesh Chaturthi. The size of this idol may vary from 3/4th of an inch to over 25 feet.

On the day of the festival, it is placed on raised platforms in homes or in elaborately decorated outdoor tents for people to view and pay their homage. The priest, usually clad in red silk dhoti and shawl, then invokes life into the idol amidst the chanting of mantras. This ritual is called 'pranapratishhtha'. After this the 'shhodashopachara' (16 ways of paying tribute) follows. Coconut, jaggery, 21 'modakas' (rice flour preparation), 21 'durva' (trefoil) blades and red flowers are offered. The idol is anointed with red unguent or sandal paste (rakta chandan). Throughout the ceremony, Vedic hymns from the Rig Veda and Ganapati Atharva Shirsha Upanishad, and Ganesha stotra from the Narada Purana are chanted.

For 10 days, from Bhadrapad Shudh Chaturthi to the Ananta Chaturdashi, Ganesha is worshipped. On the 11th day, the image is taken through the streets in a procession accompanied with dancing, singing, to be immersed in a river or the sea symbolizing a ritual see-off of the Lord in his journey towards his abode in Kailash while taking away with him the misfortunes of all man. All join in this final procession shouting "Ganapathi Bappa Morya, Purchya Varshi Laukariya" (O father Ganesha, come again early next year). After the final offering of coconuts, flowers and camphor is made, people carry the idol to the river to immerse it.

The whole community comes to worship Ganesha in beautifully done tents. These also serve as the venue for free medical checkup, blood donation camps, charity for the poor, dramatic performances, films, devotional songs, etc. during the days of the festival.

Three Christmas presents

Unprecedented 446 reliability, with three 446s in a row seen leaving Woking on time.

Here's one of the recent-ish transfers fom Abellio London, 8441 (KM02 HFP), still missing the "8" from its fleet number. These buses like the 446 it seems, with the three on time ones being 8441, 8445 and 8442 in that order.

It wasn't all good though, as the first 446 I saw was ten minutes late.

29-30 March 2015 Colfax-Winnemucca Trip

I hadn't stayed in Winnemucca, Nevada, since 1969, when we stopped there on a family vacation. The town has some neon signs on the old main drag and Amtrak goes there, so, with the girls on their vacation, I took a short trip myself.

Somehow, I was late enough getting out of the house that I missed the train at Roseville. so I drove up the hill and caught it with plenty of time to spare at Colfax. The trip over the Sierra showed just how little snow we have this year.

This trip marked the 40th year in a row that I've ridden Amtrak over Donner Pass, covering at least the Colfax-Truckee segment. Some years it has been Sacramento or Roseville to Truckee or Reno, in 1976 it was Colfax-Reno on the first day Amtrak stopped at Colfax, other years, the Donner crossing was part of trips to Denver, Chicago or the east coast.

After Reno, we were in the Nevada desert for 3 hours as the sun went down on the way to Winnemucca. At Parran, out in the middle of nowhere, UP had dumped an intermodal train all over the ground a few days earlier and we slow ordered through the spilled stack cars and containers.

A freight followed the Zephyr out of town, heading onto the paired track at Weso a few miles out of town. The Zephyr had received an unusual yellow over green signal, "Approach Clear 50", probably to keep the train from going too fast before slowing for the crossover to the ex-WP at Weso.

Winnemucca has some decent neon and the night I was there, an SD70M parked on the former WP. UP has replaced the WP depot with a new yard office building. Some old outfit cars were also parked nearby.

The westbound Zephyr is due through Winnemucca at 0540, and although it was a few minutes late, that made for a pre-dawn wakeup and walk to the station. Since I'd last been through Winnemucca in 2010, the plastic bus shelter at the Amtrak platform has been replaced with a more substantial shelter, still not a fully enclosed station, but enough to keep the wind away and with heaters in the ceiling. An eastbound freight stopped on the siding to await #5.

There was lively conversation in the lounge car on #5 and the trip went quickly, despite the train holding for an hour due to MOW work in Truckee River Canyon. My photo of Mt. Judah on the westbound trip shows just how little snow there is up there.

After getting off the train at Colfax, I stopped at Applegate and got a couple of last photos of it as twisted through the pines.

I probably don't have enough years to do another 40 years of trips over Donner, but hope to keep it up as long as I can.
