I always look forward to seeing these lilies bloom each year. Thankfully all of my neighbors allow me to come in their yards and photograph them.

They swivel around in the breeze. The post is black and white, and reminds me a bit of a lighthouse or some other coastal thing.

"A rainy day is the perfect time for a walk in the woods to clean the soul and get inspired"

The story behind my special rainy capture. It's been a very long time since one of my wildlife image posts. I went out two weekends in a row prior to this shoot, only to find myself deleting all of the images I had captured because none spoke to me. I think that my absence from the wild left me wondering, so yesterday my family and I went out into the wild.... "my wildlife" as I like to call it for fun. We left earlier than our normal and by 8:00 am we were shooting birds in flight. We found our selves at Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, one of our favorite spots in Central Florida.

When we arrived the weather changed from overcast to rainy, and shortly after the rain began. At the first stop in the refuge there were a wide variety of beautiful birds flying everywhere in groups from one close by spot to another close one, and the backdrop setting left me so inspired I didn't care that it was raining and continued shooting through the rain. In my mind I had envisioned several types of moments I wanted to captured, some were new and others I just wanted to perfect from previous shoots like composition in camera, or poses at certain point of view (POV), etc. I was literally standing in pouring rain shooting with my Nikon D7000 and Sigma 150-500mm lens hand held. I used my black cotton jacket to protect my equipment from the rain. Normally, I like to look decent with makeup on and hair done it's just a girly thing I'm into. But on this day, my face went undone from mascara running down into my eye which I had to wipe several times to see the action I was shooting to dirt all over my clothing from kneeling on the ground and stepping into mud to my nice am hair blow-dried ending up soaked in a ponytail. With all that I didn't care, I was in a zone seeing all of my shots becoming a reality in frame. I couldn't resist holding down my shutter speed every few seconds to any action that played into my inspiration. I can tell you that it felt great being out in the rain feeling that inspiration you desired and more importantly, a special connection with nature that soothes the soul. It certainly did it for me. I had never really stood in full rain uncovered shooting anything and to allow myself the freedom to do something so simple yet gave me such pleasure was incredible to say the least. I definitely recommend a moment like this to anyone that wants or needs to get in touch with their inspiration.

I ended up filling up three sd cards a 16gb, 8gb, and 4gb all RAW images-- I only shoot RAW. I actually asked another photographer if I could buy an sd card from him because I didn't want to stop shooting, unfortunately he didn't have any to spare. When I got into the Jeep and finally rested my slr my right hand was stuck in the same pose I use to shoot photography. I'm serious, it was stuck like that and I actually had to massage it with my left hand because I felt the pain. I mean I held this equipment straight for close to three hours non-stop. But if I could re-do that same moment again, guess what? I would do it in a heart beat! It was by far one of the best birding photography experiences I've had since I started digital photography two years ago.

So here's one of the many, many images I had the pleasure of capturing in MINWR, to get myself started with this series. I will post more each day. Thank you for taking the time to read my posts and view my images. Enjoy!

Well, for a brief moment this morning, I had my ducks in a row. (A little something to mess with your eyes)

Mallard Ducklings actually...

You haven't been to Japan if you haven't seen one of these vending machines.

It doesn't mean that it is a must see thing that you put on your list. It is only that these efficient and widely used friendly neighborhood 24/7 stores are so ubiquitos, that while in Japan, you will actually be surprised not to find them close by.

It is no surprise that Japan has the highest number of vending machines per capita, in the world.

They are everywhere!

Whether you're in a big city, or a small quaint town.

In a railway station, or in a train itself.

They're almost always at a corner near you, like your work out buddy, ready to hand out cold, ion supply drinks, to refresh you after a good work out from exploring this amazing country, or a can of coffee or tea to keep you company while you take some time off to just observe the world go by or to flip a book.

I just mention the drinks guy 'coz that is what we fed many yen coins into this machines for, but they seem to be dispensing almost anything that can be inserted between the spring coils or slots. Cigarettes, lottery tickets, meal tokens, fresh vegatables, Umbrellas and many other things.

So much that I sometimes think that some places where many vending machines are placed together in a row, can give most convenience stores back home a hard run for their money.

WE went back to shoot the Pekeliling flats as my friends wanted to go and I was determined to hit the roof. It was worth climbing 17th floors ;)

Once home to 2,500 residents for 40-odd years, the low cost Pekeliling Flats that were built in 1967 is slowly being demolished. We visited what remains of the blocks that remained home for many despite its size and decaying façade of the building.

Second day in a row with a pretty cool insect to see. I found this Praying Mantis as I was mowing the lawn today and almost ran him over. These are up there with the coolest of the bugs in my opinion.

A name for the order is "praying mantises", because of the typical "prayer-like" stance, although the term is often misspelled as "preying mantis" since mantises are predatory. Mantises have two grasping, spiked forelegs in which prey items are caught and held securely. Insects form the primary diet, but larger species have been known to prey on small scorpions, lizards, frogs, birds, snakes, fish, and even rodents; they will prey upon any species small enough to successfully capture and devour.
