Blueberries and a plastic egg carton made these freaky ice-cubes the hit of the party. Find out how at www.ontheflyrecipes.com/2010/10/ice-capades/

I know it's a bit out of focus and too noisy (I tried to fix the blur by sharpening it) - just don't look at the high resolution. I work on a solution - I really need a remote release or a model. It's way to difficult to focus and jump into the right position within twelve seconds!

How fucking embarrassing. Bill, why don't you get down and just lick his fucking shoes. You groveling pussy.
Thought I would have another attempt at catching an icecube being dropped into water.
Rather than use coloured flashes this time, I tried backlighting the background to hopefully give a bit more contrast. Sadly it didn't really work, though it has given me a few more ideas and is closer to success than previous efforts :)
Though it doesn't really show the icecube very well, I quite liked this one and after turning it numerous times, decided to keep it the right way up, close call though ;-)
The background consisted of 4 sheets of funfoam, white directly behind the tank, flanked by red, blue and orange.
These were lit by 2 x Neewer mini slave flashes, I probably should have used one more ?

I had to be quick because the ice cube melted REALLY fast! (This is not something I normally do to my tea, by the way.)

The "ice cubes" installation in the Amphitéâtre Gallo-Romain. I tried to include a notion of non-balance using the pillar in the middle. Nonetheless, I tried to create an image which is visually balanced. Did I succeed in doing this? What do you think?

Not quite what I expected with this one.
A familiar subject here, but a different form of lighting was used. Carrying on with playing with my DIY light table, I thought I would have another go at the coloured liquid and ice, using lighting from underneath. On the plus side, it does illuminate the liquid quite nicely, but I dont think it is anywhere near as effective for lighting up the glass itself as my previous attempt, which is shown in the comment below.
I guess the next step will be to combine the 2 different methods of lighting together and trying to get them balanced. That will have to wait until I make some more icecubes though :).
Far from a good image, but I learn just as much from mistakes as when things go right, so this was a good learning exercise and does give a different look.
Lighting provided by a Neewer SF-01 mini slave flash in the lightbox below the glass. A piece of black card with a circular hole directly below the glass.
In addition, another pair of Neewer flashes illuminating the sides of the backdrop behind for a bit of edge lighting to the glass.

About Ride Along
Kevin Hart and Ice Cube lead the lineup in Ride Along, the new film from the director and the producer of the blockbuster comedy Think Like a Man. When a fast-talking guy joins his girlfriend’s brother—a hot-tempered cop—to patrol the streets of Atlanta, he gets entangled in the officer’s latest case. Now, in order to prove that he deserves his future bride, he must survive the most insane 24 hours of his life. For the past two years, high-school security guard Ben (Hart) has been trying to show decorated APD detective James (Cube) that he’s more than just a video-game junkie who’s unworthy of James’ sister, Angela (Tika Sumpter). When Ben finally gets accepted into the academy, he thinks he’s earned the seasoned policeman’s respect and asks for his blessing to marry Angela. Knowing that a ride along will demonstrate if Ben has what it takes to take care of his sister, James invites him on a shift designed to scare the hell out of the trainee. But when the wild night leads them to the most notorious criminal in the city, James will find that his new partner’s rapid-fire mouth is just as dangerous as the bullets speeding at it. John Leguizamo and Laurence Fishburne join the cast of the action-comedy directed by Tim Story. Ride Along is produced by Will Packer (Think Like a Man), alongside Ice Cube, Matt Alvarez (Barbershop) and Larry Brezner (Good Morning, Vietnam).

After we came home from the hair salon I took a nap, and then we went to a Vietnamese restaurant for dinner. When we drink water at home we don't use ice cubes, so when I noticed it in the glass at the restaurant I tried eating them. They were slippery and fell onto the floor, so Papa put it in my mouth using a spoon.
