At the South Pole.
It just keeps getting better down here. Early this morning we suited up in our extreme-cold survival gear, followed our friend Dr. Lisa Clough of the National Science Foundation down to the ice airstrip, boarded an LC-130 Hercules, and flew 3 hours inland to the South Pole. For decades the Hercules fleet has been the dependable backbone of the U.S. Antarctic Program, and I thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the flight deck of the old workhorse with the pilot and co-pilot as we soared into the Antarctic interior.

I got this in a nerdy shop in London last year but you can but them and many other awesome ones online incuding handguns, dentures and titanics complete with iceberg.

the bowl's background had all the same (red) color, but there was the sun shining on the upper part of it and so it turned into yellow

Mixed emotions over todays shot. In some ways a step forward, not in others.
Lets start on a positive note :)
Several times recently I have not wanted a reflection while working with liquids and fire, but what to use as a surface? Proved to be a problem finding something that would be suitable. I have plenty of sheets of plastic and the like, but all of them have a bit of a sheen to them when hit with light at an angle. To cut a long story short, I found a piece of plastic sheet from an old advertising sign and sprayed it with matt black paint from an aerosol. As you can see from the shot, it worked perfectly. Even better than felt or velvet as it doesnt harbour pieces of dust like they do. This took only a minor adjustment to the black level to get it to pure black and.no dust specks to remove
So thats the liquid side of the equation sorted for now, not sure what I'm going to do for the flames though, a visit to a cookery shop may be in order.
Now onto the icecube, this one was made up of undiluted milk and I have to say, it's a bit too opaque and I dont think it worked as well as the 50/50 mix with water that I shot yesterday. The pink tinge is actually a bonus and not intended, somehow a bit of food colouring got into this, which I'm quite thankful for :)
Lighting is becoming a bit of a standard setup for this type of shot. A pair of Neewer SF-01 mini slave flashes placed to the sides and shot through DIY white printer paper screens.
Both flashes fired with Blazzeo SLT-4 radio triggers.
