There it is on the left: the Triwizard Tournament DOM. This one belongs to Cambridge University's Polar Museum. DOM: Digital Optical Module. But why Triwizard Tournament? Because DOM's are nicknamed with reference to Harry Potter Books! Well, this all looks very magical. It was. The Discoveries exhibition of Cambridge Uni museum objects at 2 Temple Place in London was just that.
Taken, edited and uploaded with iPhone 5s. Would have been good too review this on a large screen before uploading but I think it looks OK.
Just a melting block of ice, lit from behind in an attempt to bring out the detail looking through it. Now wondering if I should have been a bit quicker and gone in closer before the pool of melt water had grown so much?
Might have another go and maybe try to inject a bit of colour.
Set on a sheet of acrylic painted black on the underside. Lit from behind by a pair of Neewer SF-01 mini slave flashes through a DIY difussion panel of white printer paper. Triggered by Blazzeo SLT-4 radio triggers (PT-04 TM's).

Fancy ice cubes ...
Ice cubes that I prepared for my Sunday dinner party. Except that I forgot them in the freezer ... and here they are !
Glacons
que j/ai prepare pour mon dinner (ce dimanche) avec les amis.
et que j'ai oublie dans le congelateur ... donc les voici !
Sorry for posting two photos tonight. They are part of the project 365/365 ... unfortunately, for two days I was not up to Flickr ...and I am a bit behind.
2024 started as a though winter, first with a lot of snow, then a very cold period. This wall is man made for industrial purpose. And out from the ground, water freeze and make this cubes hanging and gave this natural formations due to the cold weather.
Still in these ones...soon, I promise, you´ll get to see something else too! :O) Hope everybody´s having a great Tuesday!
My first pic with the StopShot. The icecube was dropped in the glass to make the splash. The splash is a lot more defined than I've previously managed with the high speed setting on my camera.
Strobist
1 x SB28@1/16 power. Lastolite Ezybox Hotshoe softbox. This was behind the glass.
The speedlight was hooked up directly to the StopShot via a PC cable.
That's it!!
Closeup of ice cubes inside a blue plastic cup. A light from the bottom of the cup makes an unusual view of an ordinary ice and water cup.
strobist: 420EZ @ 1/16 below ice cubes, CY-28ZL @ 1/1 w/diffuser through umbrella, above.
Large version available here.
today's sunset was a mixture of
pink grapefruit and orange juice
with some cool ice cube blue
and vulcano fire like intensity

Testing the Elinchrom Quadra flash duration. Set up: Head B with orange gel behind subject, through double scrim (Savage translum). Head A directly above subject. Nikon SB900 CR at 1/128. Head B gets 1/3 of the power from the asymmetrical 400W/S pack. Head A gets the other 2/3. Pack was at full power (6.0) which results in the shortest flash duration for port B. Skyport on camera. Camera triggered with Triggertrap in audio-triggering mode on iPhone.
Active Assignment Weekly (Jan. 27) - Frozen
It is constantely above freezing temperature here at the moment, so no chance to get any natural ice. Instead I made some ice cubes in the freezer and filled them in a glass.
They are illumnated by a speedlight from behind. The background is a sheet of paper with a hole for the flash.
In post-processing adjusted contrast/exposure and shifted the hue to make the wooden table appear bluish.
