Here's a shot from a trip with few friends to the south-east of Iceland last week. We arrived at the spot just before sunset but the beach was crowded with hundreds people, seemingly trying to take the same shot... It took a while to find a good looking ice-cube and no people in the frame. This is one of two shots I'm pleased with, a bit more busy than I had in mind but still interesting to look at.
The ice-bergs and cubes on the beach come from a glacier (Vatnajökull) behind the beach where they break from the glacier to a lagoon and float to the sea. The icebergs are made of snow that fell thousands of years ago on top of the glacier and has since slowly been crawling down towards the beach where they merge with the ocean and get ready for the next round of eternal cycle of water.

The loveliest ice cube ever. Unfortunately, it takes up most of the volume in the martini glass, meaning you end up with really half a cocktail. For $14, I'd argue that, while pretty, it's not worth it.

The theme this week is 'cold'. I was hoping for some interesting frost to shoot but it's mostly rained and hailed this week so I went for this instead.

500 kilometres North within Alberta our friends are already experiencing the reality of snow and winters grip. Southern Alberta has been lingering longer, poking away until our reality appears also. So I thought of those whose seasonal camera habits are preparing with gloves, toques, and thermal warm clothing for outdoor photography adventures.
"Whenever the slightest suggestion of winters appearance surfaced, Agnes would strap on her fine ice skates, and conjure a favourite ice cream treat. Behind the old weathered shed, a vintage poster and vacant ice cream machine was all that was required. In all likelihood it probably plugged in and still worked.
You see, something iced in this context was rather delicious and texturally palpable, one never needed to waffle about going outside. Then when the first snow fall appeared, it would be time for some serious skating manoeuvres complete with serious ice cream extras."

Active Assignment Weekly (Jan. 27) - Frozen
It is constantely above freezing temperature here at the moment, so no chance to get any natural ice. Instead I made some ice cubes in the freezer and filled them in a glass.
They are illumnated by a speedlight from behind. The background is a sheet of paper with a hole for the flash.
In post-processing adjusted contrast/exposure and shifted the hue to make the wooden table appear bluish.

This is a space invader ice cube and just look how cute it is!! I'm still trying to edit and upload all my pictures from when I didn't have the internet...taking ages! I think I have have better pictures coming, thankfully :)
Such a beautiful morning but such a short fleeing moment when you can capture some colours. And if you choose to do long exposures then your time is even shorter.
This image was created as part of a weekly challenge with the theme of Hot/Cold by the Macro Mondays group on FLICKR. Essentially, the challenge was to take a macro of something either hot, cold or both hot and cold. As I did not want to do another macro of a hot fudge sundae (healthier pix? lol), I decided to try the hot and cold.
On 9/29/23 I spent 45 minutes throwing different objects in a glass of water. This was one of the best shots that I got.

Spent the majority of yesterday on the road so I didn't have a lot of time for photography. In fact, I had so little time for photography that this is all I managed to shoot yesterday. So, nothing exciting to see here; just my pop from my Uncle's birthday dinner last night.
I probably should have shot before I left the house. Oh well!
