For the MM theme of “in ice”, I have 16 subjects all told and a couple with a two orientations. Just told a bud that there will be major dithering in the next few hours!! I’ll try to leave a link to the album somewhere close by when I get the possibilities narrowed down a bit!

What looks like an ice cube is really a stalagmite formed by drops from a dripping hose.

Part of the 52 Weeks of 2016

Week:29

Theme: Photo chain

Category: Creative

This week we had to create a photograph based on free association. The picture will be chained in a creative way to another picture in the group pool.

Using the rules for the chain, my photo had to be related to this image by Nikki Hudson:

I couldn't get to a bar to shoot an image, but I could set up some drinks in my garden.

Happy Birthday Party

I've had this set a long time, but recently realized I never photographed it. It has a ton of pieces, I can't think of any other set with this many. None of the cake decorations attach to the cake, they just sit on top, & the ice cubes are one of my favorite Re-ment pieces.

today is StarWars day, so party like 1976, disco style!!!

this Tshirt was a birthday gift by the talented Alberto, he and his girlfriend gave it to me at my workshop last Sunday. So awesome that I just had to wear it on international StarWars Day ;-)

Here is a little abstract I shot over the weekend. This is a photo of a block of ice that was in my cooler I had forgotten about outside. When I dumped out the ice block I saw these bubbles and grabbed my camera before it thawed in the 10 degree weather.. LOL There was no focus stacking or exposure bracketing, just one shot. I decided against the stacking for two reasons, 1, it was freaking cold outside and 2, I liked the little bit that is out of focus.

I had grand plans for today's potd. I don't work Friday afternoons so I was all set to bust out all kinds of paraphernalia! However, life has a habit of chucking curve balls at you and I had to get myself back on track. Rocks reassembled I cracked on with a simple shot instead...

One Lencarta Superfast 600 behind a heavyweight Translum screen, wearing an Aputure Fresnel attachment to create a radial gradient. I use this rather than a grid as it allows me to control the fall-off for a given size of spot, plus, unlike a grid, which blocks and absorbs the light around the edge to create the fall off, a Fresnel lens focuses the light towards the centre - so you keep almost all of the light, just in a different pattern. This becomes important for motion freezing work like this as you need to keep the flash output low: these IGBT controlled lights reduce their output by shortening the duration of the flash. The SF600 is on 5.5 here - ie only half a stop above minimum power, so the flash duration will be in the 1/10000th of a second region.

i was up even earlier this morning than yesterday. definitely still on ireland time. i woke up at 5:45 because i was exhausted/in bed by 8pm last night. i can't wait to be on a regular (for me) sleep schedule again.

anyway me being up at such a ridiculous hour explains why i knocked out my 365 at 8am.

for this shot i started out dropping a euro into the water because it's pretty heavy but that didn't really work. then i tried my ring which was also a failure and decided ice cubes might be an idea. 45 tries later...........

this picture is so so so near sooc. i upped the contrast a teeeeny bit to bring out the drops in the air and then cropped a little to eliminate useless parts of the picture. so, here you are!

ps this is the only good shot i got (at least, as i had imagined it). the second i hit the button i knew it was the one. after this i started pouring the rest of the water that i brought outside into the glass and using my remote shot a few of the overflow. one of them is below. that one is unedited apart from a crop.

This week's Macro Mondays theme is Hot or Cold ... I took an ice cube and placed it on a teaspoon and, as you can see I lit a match to cover both hot and cold ... here is the effect.

I like the silicone trays quite a bit, I bought the one they released last summer, and followed up with this one. The best is whenever I hurt myself (which, because I'm a fearless doofus is quite often) and my husband makes sure he fills up the ice pack with Hello kitty cubes to cheer me up (awwww).
