You want to shoot drinks with nice and clear ice cubes but you don't want to shell out a fortune for acrylic cubes?
Here you go, from left to right:
1. Cloudy, ugly icecube---we can do better!
2. A styrofoam mold guarantees isolation at the bottom
3. Filling that mold with water serves as thermal coupling
4. Now: boil destilled water, then let it sit, until it is handwarm
5. Fill the icecube tray
6. Wait approx 15 h, and then enjoy your clear cubes :-)
The trick is the "directional" freezing. If the ice freezes from all sides simultaneously, the air cannot get out and the ice gets cloudy. If you insulate one side, this is not the case.
The boiling boils out enclosed air,
the usage of destilled water guarantees clean water.
Piece of cake! :-)

Nothing like a nice little kitchen spillage to help with the challenge! Apologies for my title but I couldn't come up with much else!!
Our Daily Challenge ~ BEGINS WITH "I" .....
Thanks, in advance, to everyone who views this photo, adds a note, leaves a comment and of course BIG thanks to anyone who chooses to favourite my photo .... thanks to you all.
Maybe I should buy some fake ice cubes?..

If you haven't picked up one of those "ice cube trays" they're awesome.
Use'm to make gummies, chocolates, and all kinds of stuff :)
Hope you all had a wonderful Valentines Day!
Remember to melt the chocolate on slow/low power (if in a microwave) so that it lasts a little longer.
Expose an ice cube to strong afternoon light and you'll get something like this....provided you see it through a macro lens glass :)

Stranded icecube. I like the colors in it due to the how the lighting is at that time. This was taken after the sun had disappeared behind the mountain.
With the brutal arctic blast we’ve been experiencing I had an idea to use Cold as my “C” word but how best to illustrate it? Freeze a minifig in an ice cube, of course!

On 9/29/23 I spent 45 minutes throwing different objects in a glass of water. This was one of the best shots that I got.
...from the "glass series"...bokeh, no-bokeh,pseudo-bokeh.. with the camera on the restaurant table..
Whiskey bottle, glass and hip flask.
Taken at a recent 'studio' shoot.
Would appreciate any constructive criticism.

The IceTop cosmic air shower detector array is part of the IceCube project at the South Pole. It consists of 81 station distributed in a 1 km^2 area. In this image one of the stations is shown in the foreground and the setting Sun in the background.
From fairies at the bottom of your garden to 'the borrowers' we are obsessed with the fantasy of little people in a full-sized world. My 'downsizing' project, using model railway figures, food and everyday objects, is merely an extension of those thoughts.

OK, here's the scoop . . .
well, not ice cream, but ice cubes . . .
dumped onto a plate which had contained a salad . . .
but the limes and lemons were from a drink . . .
not a fruit salad . . .
and, of course, I couldn't resist the painterly effect . . .
C L I C K . . .
but, being "Sliders Sunday" . . .
although not a real fan of groups anymore,
I just couldn't resist the play . . .
so, lo and behold
what should appear,
but an "Angel of the Morning"
ready to nurse a possible bloody mary hangover . . .
not mine, of course!
I was just the observer!

The loveliest ice cube ever. Unfortunately, it takes up most of the volume in the martini glass, meaning you end up with really half a cocktail. For $14, I'd argue that, while pretty, it's not worth it.

Here's a shot from a trip with few friends to the south-east of Iceland last week. We arrived at the spot just before sunset but the beach was crowded with hundreds people, seemingly trying to take the same shot... It took a while to find a good looking ice-cube and no people in the frame. This is one of two shots I'm pleased with, a bit more busy than I had in mind but still interesting to look at.
The ice-bergs and cubes on the beach come from a glacier (Vatnajökull) behind the beach where they break from the glacier to a lagoon and float to the sea. The icebergs are made of snow that fell thousands of years ago on top of the glacier and has since slowly been crawling down towards the beach where they merge with the ocean and get ready for the next round of eternal cycle of water.
