It was 35 degrees inside my place today, so I needed something cold to photograph. The strawberry is frozen inside one of the ice cubes.

I found this while dusting off old photos, applying new editing skills to see what could happen. This is ginger beer with lime, when I saw the colours, I had to whip out my camera, lunch or no lunch!

Soft as a soft drink and hard as ice

I was hoping to have taken this outside today as there was a hint of blue sky about.... but it didn't last!

IceCube is a gigantic 1qkm neutrino detector at the South Pole. It detects very high energetic astrophysical neutrinos from the Universe. The building here is the IceCube-Lab (ICL) and is just the tip of the iceberg.

Photo taken by David Herrmann.

The title is from a War song however, this green boat is inspired by the car from Ice Cube's music video for "Today Was a Good Day." It's fully poseable thanks to its "hydraulics" suspension and features lots of chrome parts from Chrome Block City, custom 3D-printed rims, and hand-painted whitewall LEGO tires. The minifigure's bandana was also hand-painted by me. It includes an alternative closed roof, and yes, it rolls too.

Ice machine ice cubes.

Having a play with some splash photography again today using my new flashgun. This time I used water with some blue food colouring and an ice cube to drop in to the glass. This took quite a bit of processing after as well, as the previous splashes had stained the white t-shirt I used as a background and I had to put it in to photoshop and remove all the previous stains. Still I think it came out ok in the end.

For this picture, I set up a foam poster board outside around 5:00 p.m. This way the sun wasn't not too harsh and the lighting was better. I liked the picture because the blue water has really good contrast and pops from the page while the spilled pitcher creates some good depth. I also added the ice cubes to give it something different as well, and not be so boring.

I think this photo fits the question because of how I used purely the sun to create reflections and shadows. I really liked how the reflection of the pitcher bounces off the water, it is more pleasing to the photo and adds another effect so the photo pops and is not as boring.

There it is on the left: the Triwizard Tournament DOM. This one belongs to Cambridge University's Polar Museum. DOM: Digital Optical Module. But why Triwizard Tournament? Because DOM's are nicknamed with reference to Harry Potter Books! Well, this all looks very magical. It was. The Discoveries exhibition of Cambridge Uni museum objects at 2 Temple Place in London was just that.

Taken, edited and uploaded with iPhone 5s. Would have been good too review this on a large screen before uploading but I think it looks OK.

Ice floes at Svalbard

Bought these giant ice cubes that fill a whisky glass. Admittedly that’s bourbon in there but it’s still a giant cube. Friday night relaxation :-)

Moose (is like a bull in a china shop), knocked over my water glass and spilled all the ice all over the ground. He discovered he loves ice, good to lick and to play with.
