Konica Hexanon 55mm f3.5 Macro Lens
In the original you can actually see me reflected in his eye taking the shot.
I had to hold still and get the bird to start ignoring me, luckily it liked to land on this twig whenever it wanted to take a break, I was able to shoot this from about a foot away - hence the feather detail.

I hid behind a white pine tree to get this shot of the hummingbird. The sun was low in the sky, shining on the bird and the background was shaded. The result was the black background.
There were a pile of hummingbirds using this one feeder. These little birds are pretty fiesty, fighting with each other.
Taken by a cafeteria beside a zipline on the road from La Fortuna to Alajuela, Costa Rica. We stumbled upon it when we were looking for something to drink. I looked through an open doorway at the back and found the feeder setup.
This facility has a walk-through aviary holding only samples of Arizona's many Hummingbirds. You can get closeup shots even of nesting birds.

The hummingbirds have been putting on a good show this summer but it's been hard to get any decent pictures. I took this one morning when the sun was on a tree behind the hummingbird feeder. I was able to blur the background and did a tight crop.
