Copper-rumped Hummingbird " Amazilia tobaci erythronotus"

Very common resident that is widespread on both Trinidad & Tobago.

The Costa's Hummingbird (Calypte costae) is a species of hummingbird.

The Costa's Hummingbird is very small, a mature adult growing to only 3 to 3½ inches in length. The male Costa's has a mainly green back and flanks, a small black tail and wings, and patches of white below their gorgeted throat and tail. The male Costa's Hummingbird's most distinguishing feature is its vibrant purple cap and throat with the throat feathers flaring out and back behind its head. The female Costa's Hummingbird is not as distinct as the male, having grayish-green above with a white underbelly.

The Costa's Hummingbird is fairly common in the arid brushy deserts and any nearby gardens of the Southwestern United States and the Baja California Peninsula of Mexico.

Ruby-throated Hummingbird (Archilochus colubris)

Rondeau Provincial Park, Ontario

A hummingbird with random white feathers.....I think this is sort of a interesting mutant condition. I hope it made it to its next stop.

Activity at the hummingbird feeders has really picked up over the last several days.

Black-Chinned and Ruby-Throat Hummingbirds sharing the feeder with an unlikely guest.

The hummingbirds feed on flying insects for protein, but they also drink nectar for instant energy. They will quite happily drink sugar syrup as an alternative. They fly like the clappers, and if you think swifts are difficult to photograph, these little ***s will run you a merry dance, fltting from side to side. One bird even taunted me by becoming curious about my camera - hovering a few inches from the lens in a place where it was much too close to focus! It took two hours of patient waiting to get some shots of these birds actually flying. Here is one feeding while hovering.

Hummingbirds are birds comprising the family Trochillidae. They are among the smallest of birds, and include the smallest extant bird species, the Bee Hummingbirds. They can hover in mid-air by rapidly flapping their wings 12-90 times per second (depending on the species). They can also fly backwards, and are the only group of birds able to do so. Their English name derives from the characteristic hum made by their rapid wing beats. They can fly at speeds exceeding 15 m/s (54 km/h, 34 mi/h).

Immature Male Ruby Throated Hummingbird - Green Spring Gardens

My yard, Boulder County, Colorado.

This might be a Rufous or an Allen's hummingbird. It was one of about 4 hummers that were hanging out in our back yard yesterday.
