Yesterday evening around sunset I got *the jitters*... I was tired from work, would I go out with the camera or stay in? I saw some interesting cloud activity so I decided to give it a go and bike in the direction of Overschie to see if *something would happen*.

What I found was a stunning double rainbow, some of the weirdest light and clouds I ever saw and... the decision to flee back home or stay, shoot and get completely soaked as a bonus.

I decided to stay and get washed away. :) Here's the first part (which is actually part II, err nevermind) of what I saw and experienced yesterday only *just* before sunset. Enjoy your weekend, and yes... I'll be catching up soon!

I am working on several books on "epic photography," and I recently finished a related one titled: The Golden Number Ratio Principle: Why the Fibonacci Numbers Exalt Beauty and How to Create PHI Compositions in Art, Design, & Photography: An Artistic and Scientific Introduction to the Golden Mean . Message me on facebook for a free review copy!

www.facebook.com/goldennumberratio/

The Golden Ratio informs a lot of my art and photographic composition. The Golden Ratio also informs the design of the golden revolver on all the swimsuits and lingerie, as well as the 45surf logo! Not so long ago, I came up with the Golden Ratio Principle which describes why The Golden Ratio is so beautiful.

The Golden Number Ratio Principle: Dr. E’s Golden Ratio Principle: The golden ratio exalts beauty because the number is a characteristic of the mathematically and physically most efficient manners of growth and distribution, on both evolutionary and purely physical levels. The golden ratio ensures that the proportions and structure of that which came before provide the proportions and structure of that which comes after. Robust, ordered growth is naturally associated with health and beauty, and thus we evolved to perceive the golden ratio harmonies as inherently beautiful, as we saw and felt their presence in all vital growth and life—in the salient features and proportions of humans and nature alike, from the distribution of our facial features and bones to the arrangements of petals, leaves, and sunflowers seeds. As ratios between Fibonacci Numbers offer the closest whole-number approximations to the golden ratio, and as seeds, cells, leaves, bones, and other physical entities appear in whole numbers, the Fibonacci Numbers oft appear in nature’s elements as “growth’s numbers.” From the dawn of time, humanity sought to salute their gods in art and temples exalting the same proportion by which all their vital sustenance and they themselves had been created—the golden ratio.

The Birth of Venus! Beautiful Golden Ratio Swimsuit Bikini Model Goddess! Helen of Troy! She was tall, thin, fit, and quite pretty!

SanDisk Sansa Clip Mini Review

In black is my new toy. It's the SanDisk Sansa Clip Mp3 player. It's kind of a cross between an iPod Nano and a Shuffle. It's more like a shuffle due to it's limited screen and minuscule size and I really like it. All the features (and more) of a shuffle with a screen so you know what's playing and can find the song you want.

It comes in 1,2,4,and 8GB flavors in an assortment of colors. I got the 2GB one for cheap ($20) on the deal a day site, sellout.woot.com. It was my first time 'wooting' and it shipped from nearby and came really fast. Ordered last Thursday, got a shipping email this morning with an estimate of delivery on the 23rd (Saturday) and was surprised to see it in the mailbox this afternoon, delivered by USPS. Woot doesn't have the greatest shipping time (most ship within 5 business days), but props to them for keeping their promise and getting it to me within 5 total.

As the title says, smaller is better sometimes. I have been looking for a small, portable throw-around mp3 player and this fits the bill perfectly. It is better than the shuffle in all aspects except the size, but with a beautiful screen as this one, I can certainly live with. To top it off, it can do what no other iPod can do, listen to FM radio, record from the radio, or even record voice notes and audio with its built-in microphone. Oh yeah, and then there's the price!

Surprisingly, as small as this guy is (was totally blown away at how empty the small box it came in was because it is so small), it has some incredible sound quality. One of the benefits of it not being an Apple product, is not having to use iTunes to sync my library (it's quite a big library which is already fully synced with the 60gb iPod Video). I can just drag and drop just about any song I want to the player like a USB drive. It can play your standard MP3 (including DRM ones from Napster and online music subscriptions), WMA, Audible books, OGGs, and FLACs. The last file format is the one that caught my attention. Out of the box, it can play lossless music. Lossless music (FLACs) is the de facto music format for audiophiles. It is encoded in such a way (a high bitrate) that none of the quality is lost. When MP3s are encoded, the music is compressed and music is essentially lost. With FLACs, none of this happens, you hear the original music as intended by the artist. This is one of the reasons I don't buy my songs online, it's lossy (read: junk). Of course, not everyone can tell the difference between lossless and lossy music. Try this test to see if you can tell the difference between lossy and very lossy music. Typically lossless music is encoded at 800 kbps (kilo bits per second) or higher while the maximum MP3s are encoded at are 320 KB/Sec. Anyways, getting back to the player, it can play lossless music and it can do it well. I have been listening to it with my Shure E2C earbuds all night and am enjoying every second of it. Compared with my iPod, it has a much fuller richer sounding quality to it. Certainly, not all mp3 players are made alike.

Moving on to the player itself, it's very small and quite light. It's made of shiny black plastic that seems sturdy (doesn't flex) but a bit cheap (but it makes it light and keeps it affordable). For navigation, it has a layout similar to the ipod. Instead of a scroll wheel, it has clickable directional buttons and a home button. In a song, the top button is the play/pause button. I keep wanting to press this to go to the menu (like the ipod), but that button is the bottom button (direct opposite from Apple's design). The left and right are for the previous and next song. One thing that is really neat is pressing the home button takes you to the main menu where you can select from music, radio, voice recording, and settings. Press it again and it instantly takes you to the "now plaing" song. I wish the iPod had a button like that instead of navigating all the way back to the begining main menu. On the left hand side is mini-usb jack and the sliding on/off/hold button. On the right, is the volume button (a simple up or down clicker) under the 3.5mm headphone hack. On the back is the removable clip which doesn't seem too strong, but has clipped and stayed clipped everywhere I've attached it (in the car, shirt, pockets, etc...).

The screen is a 2 color (blue and gold/yellow) 4 line OLED screen. It's a brilliantly bright crips display that can do many display many different (limited) graphics, words, and characters. It's dimmable if it's too bright or can be raised if it needs to be brighter in the sunlight. Unfortunately the little navigation wheel is not dimmable, but it's not blinding.

Conclusion

Great, you're still with me! Overall, after using it for less than 24 hours, it's a phenomenal product and I'm glad I bought it. Does exactly what it says it will do and does it well. If you're looking for an inexpensive, good sounding, small mp3 player, look no further. I'd highly recommend it. It also goes extremely well with a nice pair of headphones. I have not run into any bugs, but I have updated the firmware to the latest version and SanDisk seems to have good support. There are two forums in particular which have a large community for the Clip. One is AnythingButIpod and the official Sansa forum. I will still continue to use my big iPod but more for the longer trips and for watching movies and videos. The clip, however, is perfect for grab and go, daily use.

Bottom Line

What I liked:

Incredible Sound quality

Small and light

Inexpensive

Easy to Use

What I didn't like (could be improved):

Clip could be a bit stronger and flatter

Expandable memory via a MicroSD slot would just be over-the-top incredible

With all the great parts on the PaB walls right now I was planning another Small PaB Cup challenge ala Mantiskings's Single Set Challenge like the one I did last January, but after scoping out the wall, making a plan and buying the cupful of parts, I haven't had much time and I lost motivation.

A few days ago I sat down with the cup and started fiddling and this happened. I don't think I'm going to finish the challenge, but at least I got something from the cup. Once finished, it struck me how much it looked like a Poke Ball. HA!

Creamy Lemon and Raspberry Tart

From the Café Boulud Cookbook.

Notes: Think soft custard/flan meets lemon meringue filling with raspberries; it's very *tart.* But, the pate sablé helps to round out the flavor with a mellow, buttery sweetness.

I have always wanted to eat at Café Boulud. I look forward to eating there some day; especially now that Gavin Kaysen is the Chef de Cuisine.

Let me die a youngman's death

not a clean and inbetween

the sheets holywater death

not a famous-last-words

peaceful out of breath death

When I'm 73

and in constant good tumour

may I be mown down at dawn

by a bright red sports car

on my way home

from an allnight party

Or when I'm 91

with silver hair

and sitting in a barber's chair

may rival gangsters

with hamfisted tommyguns burst in

and give me a short back and insides

Or when I'm 104

and banned from the Cavern

may my mistress

catching me in bed with her daughter

and fearing for her son

cut me up into little pieces

and throw away every piece but one

Let me die a youngman's death

not a free from sin tiptoe in

candle wax and waning death

not a curtains drawn by angels borne

'what a nice way to go' death

It was 8 days into the work trip around the world when I got to Copenhagen, Denmark. I was only there for a solid day, so I made several trips around the beautiful city.

More from this series can be found here: www.joelaron.com

On my third trip in that day, I had the 50mm Summicron DR on. It was a little bigger of a lens, so it was more difficult to stow the camera, so I just wore it out. Looking at these images compared to the shots taken w/ the new 35mm summicron asph, this 30 year old 50 is razor sharp in the center, but a little soft on the edges...but I love it!

Luck would have it, when I stumbled on to a HUGE peace march with (from what I could tell) Religious people and hard core punks. I followed what sounded like a concert crowd, and there before me were lines of police, and crowds of punks, and spirited Danish teens. Had a hard time understanding, but as usual, I found myself hanging out with the punks.

The March was over, and it ended in the main square in Copenhagen. After it picked up to a wild party tone, it ended faster than it began. I was about out of film, and could hardly understand a word anyone was saying to me... I rolled the film out on the remaining group, and went back to the hotel to pack for Munich, and have a beer.

This is sure one the most beautiful classic vistas in Europe. Not only historic but romantic as well. Every evening tens of locals and tourists stand by the Vltava river to admire yet another sunset and stay there for long minutes to see how sky turns darker and gets into a strong contrast with the lights pointed at Prague Castle, Basilica of St. Vitus and Charles Bridge. Reflections on the Vltava are just icing on the cake.

MUROS. Tabacalera, espacio de arte urbano

32 Artistas / 27 Intervenciones / 5 - 13 Mayo 2014

Glorieta de Embajadores cv a calles de Miguel Servet y Mesón de Paredes. MADRID

For the first three generations, it was primarily a general farm with grain, fruits, vegetables, and livestock. In the fourth generation through present generations, it has specialized in fruit crops. In the sixth generation, we began to add vegetables (particularly pumpkins) as a specialty crop, in addition to grain and livestock.

Braeutigam Orchards has been in the family since 1831, but it wasn’t until 1935 that Rollin Braeutigam started raising fruit. Rollie enjoyed selling fruit to his friends so much that he raised more then could sell! So he decided to take his beautiful ripe peaches to the St. Louis Market. Lester, his son, and Marie, his daughter-in-law, helped him load those peaches in a truck and drove to St. Louis. Unfortunately, they did not realize that the market wanted greener fruit and they did not receive a good price. But Rollin and Lester believed tree-ripened peaches had the best and most appeal. Marie said, “Don’t worry we will just sell the peaches right on the farm!” However, Rollin did not believe that people would leave the main road and drive 1 mile down a dirt road to purchase fruit, but he was wrong. He soon found out that people would go anywhere for great tasting, tree-ripened fruit. Lester continued in the family business of growing and selling fruit with help from his wife, Marie for many years. Lester was a very well-liked man and Marie made the best fruit pies using her favorite apples – Golden Delicious.

In 1950, Pat Braeutigam was born to Lester and Marie. She instantly became a part of the Braeutigam Orchards family tradition as the sixth generation. Tom Range started working for Lester in 1963 and immediately fell in love with everything about farm life and the orchard, including Pat. Tom and Pat married in 1970 and officially took over ownership of the farm in 1980 following Lester and Marie’s retirement. Tom and Pat went on to have three children of their own, Julie, Sheila, and Kurt. The oldest daughter Julie, married Mick Covlin. They live on the farm with their two children, Cullen and Quinn, in the house that her Grandpa Lester grew up in as a boy. The second child, Sheila, married Doug Lueking. They live on the Lueking Dairy Farm in Hoffman with their two children, Shana and Drew. The youngest child, Kurt, lives on the farm with his three children, Griffin, Ellie and Gavin. They live in the home that Tom and Pat built. Kurt is actively involved with the Orchard Operations. In addition, Kurt owns and operates the Braeutigam Orchards Greenhouse.

Today, Braeutigam Orchards remains a family owned and operated farm by the sixth and seventh generations. The eighth generation has already begun its training to become the future farmers of Braeutigam Orchards and continue the family farming tradition for many years to come! We hope that you will join in our tradition!

We tend to celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied ad multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.

We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.

“A concise poem about our work as stated elow

A place without being

a thought without thinking

creatively, two dimensions

suspended animation

possibly a perfect imitation

of what was then to see.

A frozen memory in synthetic colour

or black and white instead,

fantasy dreams in magazines

become imbedded inside my head.

Artistic views

surrealistic hues,

a photographer’s instinctive eye:

for he does as he pleases

up to that point he releases,

then develops a visual high.

Silverton is a former silver mining camp, most or all of which is now included in a federally designated National Historic Landmark District, the Silverton Historic District. The town population was 531 at U.S. Census 2000.

Silverton is linked to Durango by the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, a National Historic Landmark. Silverton no longer has active mining, but subsists by tourism, maintenance of US 550 (highway which links Montrose with Durango via Silverton), mine pollution remediation, and retirees.

Modeling the black & gold "Gold 45 Revolver" Gold'N'Virtue swimsuits with the main equation to Moving Dimensions Theory on the swimsuits: dx4/dt=ic. Yes I have a Ph.D. in physics! :) You can read more about my research and Hero's Journey Physics here:

herosjourneyphysics.wordpress.com/ MDT PROOF#2: Einstein (1912 Man. on Rel.) and Minkowski wrote x4=ict. Ergo dx4/dt=ic--the foundational equation of all time and motion which is on all the shirts and swimsuits. Every photon that hits my Nikon D800e's sensor does it by surfing the fourth expanding dimension, which is moving at c relative to the three spatial dimensions, or dx4/dt=ic!

May the Hero's Journey Mythology Goddess inspire you (as they have inspired me!) along your own artistic journey! Love, love, love the 70-200mm F/2.8 Lens! :)
