A dolmen (also known as cromlech, anta, Hünengrab, Hunebed, Goindol, quoit, and portal dolmen) is a type of single-chamber megalithic tomb, usually consisting of three or more upright stones supporting a large flat horizontal capstone (table). Most date from the early Neolithic period (4000 to 3000 BC). Dolmens were usually covered with earth or smaller stones to form a barrow, though in many cases that covering has weathered away, leaving only the stone "skeleton" of the burial mound intact.

Panther Beach North: Mission Panorama and Coastal Obsession Collide
Although it has been a very dry winter here along the central California coast, we did get hit by some heavy rain over the weekend. Friday afternoon, before the rain really hit hard, I posted a panorama from a point overlooking the stretch of coast known as Panther Beach and Hole In The Wall Beach, entitled "Coastal Obsession". As the worst of the rain subsided on Monday night, I went out and shot another panorama entitled "Coastal Obsession Part II: Mission Panorama".
This morning I got up at 5am, headed up the coast, hoping to scout out how my recent shooting grounds would work for sunrise. You see, Aaron Reed, a contact of mine, is road tripping to Cali, and we may hook up for a sunrise shoot. Wanting to look like I know what I'm doing, I figured I should do some research first...and why not head to where I know there are some nice spots.
Well, the newly running creek at Panther Beach had eroded the beach even more than just a couple days ago. Of course, I left my wading boots in truck, and the only way to proceed was to head up the trail, get the boots, and head back down. Once across the creek, I could finally determine that the mix of high tide and swell wasn't going to allow me through the hole in the wall. I considered shooting the hole with water rushing through, but instead, headed up to the bluff directly above it. My recent itch for panoramas got the best of me.
Not the best sunrise, but I enjoyed the setting of the waning crescent moon and then the rising sun.

A cookie with my photography on it!! Here is the photo on the cookie: New York City - Winter - Snow Falls on 5th Avenue
---
It's not every day that I can say that I attended my own book debut party where I signed my own book and gave a presentation about my photography. In fact, even writing that out doesn't make it any less surreal. And yet that's exactly what happened last night.
I was telling someone last night that this year has been such a wild ride in terms of hitting tons of photography (and writing) career milestones that I don't think any of these sorts of events have registered yet in my own mind. If you had asked me if I would be making a post like this 5 years ago, I think I probably would have laughed heartily in disbelief since all of this would have seemed like such a dream.
The event took place at the Sony flagship store in Sony's headquarters in midtown Manhattan which was fitting since I am one of 9 Sony Artisans of Imagery worldwide. It was nice to celebrate with everyone there at the first of a few book related events.
Earlier this week, my book: NY Through The Lens: A New York Coffee Table Book hit #1 in New Releases for City Photography on Amazon which was super exciting. While it is available to ship on Amazon, it doesn't release in stores everywhere like Barnes and Noble until November 24th.
I am grateful to Sony for hosting the event last night. Highlights included cookies with my New York City photography on them (still can't get over the detail!), signing numerous copies of my book with a metallic marker, and getting to celebrate and meet with people who have been following my work.
Some of my friends also showed up. One of them even ended up winning a camera.
I walked out of the event to a foggy New York City and as I looked up at the skyscrapers which were reaching up into the fog, I smiled.
Thank you to those who came to the event. I know it was in an early time slot which made it difficult to attend for those who typically work later into the evening. It was also a cold, moody, rainy night suited for comfy lounging in bed (or in my case, running around with a camera). So, for those who were able to come out, you rock. Thank you so much!!
I will have more info about other events in New York City in the next few weeks. There are some events in the planning stages right now so stay tuned.
Most importantly, I wanted to say thank you to everyone for being so supportive. It means the world to me to know that there are people out there for whom my photography and/or writing resonates in some way. It's a beautiful feeling to know that.

So I’ve been wanting to experiment with studio stuff so I set up a shoot with my friend Sebastian last week. There wasn’t a ton of room in my garage but I think I did pretty well with the cropping and content aware tool! I changed up the lighting situations using my AB800 both with the Paul C Buff 47in octobox + grid and bare bulb with color gels. Sebastian did all the posing work, as I’m still lacking in that department. This is also the first time I’ve done dodge/burning in Photoshop and I’m pretty happy with the results.

Strobe was positioned directly over the camera facing Sebastian at around 1/8 power

The SS Nomadic is the last remaining ship in the world of the White Star Line. Known as 'Titanic's Little Sister' she was built alongside the Titanic in 1911. Designed by the same man, Thomas Andrews.
She has carried many a famous passenger and is most famous for transferring passengers from the shallow docks in Cherbourg out to the Titanic who was moored in deeper water.
The SS Nomadic is now a visitors centre after being fully restored and sits in Hamilton Dock in the heart of Titanic Quarter. Here her bow looks on towards Titanic Belfast, the museum and visitors centre which opened in April 2012, 100 years after the sinking of the ocean liner.

Bamboo forest of the road is a path with a taste that lasts for about 200 meters between the Nomiya Shrine from Okochi Sanso. In the vicinity, there is such as Tenryu-ji of World Heritage and Arashiyama, is one of the typical attractions of Kyoto Arashiyama, is a tourist spot that you would like you to come stopped in when it came to Arashiyama. Every year in December, was held “Kyoto Arashiyama Hanatoro”, and you can walk in the light-up has been fantastic bamboo forest. After exploring fully the great garden of the Tenryu-ji, and out of the north gate, it is recommended that is to walk the road of bamboo forest toward the Nomiya shrines and Okochi Sanso. It should be noted that, on the road of bamboo forest does not have a parking lot. When you are coming by car, it is recommended that is using the parking and the Tenryu-ji coin parking in the vicinity of the peripheral Togetsukyo.

My Most Popular Images from 2012
I have never done one of these before but thought I would give it ago and reflect back on 2012. These are my most interesting images (according to Flickr) from 2012 and all of them are taken in London and mostly on the Tube, which is no surprise there :-).
I would just like to take the time to thank all of those who visit and comment on my work regularly. It really does help me alot to improve my photography and my techniques. I feel compared to previous years I am a little bit more planned in the way I do photography which I feel has vastly helped. I have also achieved more than I previously thought compared to this time last year, I have got a couple of images published in a magazine, now a Getty contributor and only recently got round to setting up my own website
