Sławosz Uznański, ESA project astronaut from Poland, gives a “thumbs-up” from the heart of the action inside the Columbus training mockup at ESA's European Astronaut Centre in Cologne, Germany.

Sławosz's path to this point started in November 2022 when he was selected as a member of the ESA astronaut reserve after a year-long selection process. The 2022 ESA recruitment campaign received more than 22 500 applications from across its Member States.

As of 1 September 2023, Sławosz joined ESA as a project astronaut. He is currently engaged in an intensive initial training programme, preparing for a future space mission.

Born in Poland in 1984, Sławosz has a background in space systems engineering and has been involved in research related to radiation effects. Before joining ESA, he worked at CERN in Switzerland, overseeing operation Large Hadron Collider.

During his first week at the European Astronaut Centre, Sławosz followed initial International Space Station training, and learned all about the European laboratory module, Columbus. This module serves as the living and working quarters for European astronauts on the International Space Station. Additionally, he received an overview of space systems, vehicles, and operations.

The European Astronaut Centre (EAC) serves as a centre for astronaut selection, training, medical support, and surveillance. It plays a central role in supporting astronauts and their families throughout the preparation and execution of their space missions. EAC serves as a key training centre for astronauts worldwide, preparing them for missions involving European hardware.

Within EAC’s training hall, there are classrooms, payload training booths, an extended reality laboratory, and mockups of European human-rated spacecraft, including the Columbus laboratory. A team of instructors ensures that all astronauts receive training that meets the high standards required for spaceflight.

Ready to embark on his mission duties with the European Astronaut Corps, Sławosz is excited for this adventure to begin.

The tower at the Gurdwara in village Palahi.

This Gurdwara is sited in the village Palahi, near Phagwara and has the honour of being blessed with visits from three Sikh Guru´s - the sixth Sikh Guru,Sri Guru Hargobind Ji, the seventh Sikh Guru Sri Guru Har Rai Ji and the nineth Sikh Guru Sri Guru Teghbadur Ji.

It is built on the site of a battle, in 1635; between Guru Hargobind Ji and the invading Mughal forces. Though many Sikhs gave their lives, they emerged victorious.

During this battle, the future, Sri Guru Tegh Badahur Ji fought alongside his father, Sri Guru Hargobind Ji.

In later years the Seventh Sikh Guru Sri Guru Har Rai Ji also visited this village.

On June 11, Sikhs celebrated the Gurgadi of Sri Guru Har Gobind.

On June 16, Sikhs worldwide remember the martydom of the fifth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Arjan Ji (the father of Sri Guru Hargobind).

Dawn yesterday morning at Mt Clear in the Namadgi NP. My helpful assistant was up with me watching the sunrise. This is a three frame HDR ... I took another couple of series of the sunrise (as you do...) but I really liked this one with my assistant in frame ... it lends a sense of scale to the place ...that's him in the colourful beanie in lower left ;-) ... it was a superb day too :-)

Niagara Falls (Cayuga: Gahnawehtaˀ or Tgahnawęhtaˀ[1]) is the collective name for three waterfalls that straddle the international border between the Canadian province of Ontario and the U.S. state of New York. They form the southern end of the Niagara Gorge.

From largest to smallest, the three waterfalls are the Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls. The Horseshoe Falls lie on the Canadian side and the American Falls on the American side, separated by Goat Island. The smaller Bridal Veil Falls are also located on the American side, separated from the other waterfalls by Luna Island. The international boundary line was originally drawn through Horseshoe Falls in 1819, but the boundary has long been in dispute due to natural erosion and construction.[2]

Located on the Niagara River which drains Lake Erie into Lake Ontario, the combined falls form the highest flow rate of any waterfall in the world, with a vertical drop of more than 165 feet (50 m). Horseshoe Falls is the most powerful waterfall in North America, as measured by vertical height and also by flow rate.[3] The falls are located 17 miles (27 km) north-northwest of Buffalo, New York and 75 miles (121 km) south-southeast of Toronto, between the twin cities of Niagara Falls, Ontario, and Niagara Falls, New York.

Niagara Falls were formed when glaciers receded at the end of the Wisconsin glaciation (the last ice age), and water from the newly formed Great Lakes carved a path through the Niagara Escarpment en route to the Atlantic Ocean. While not exceptionally high, the Niagara Falls are very wide. More than 6 million cubic feet (168,000 m3) of water falls over the crest line every minute in high flow,[4] and almost 4 million cubic feet (110,000 m3) on average.

Barra, Pelourinho, Praia do Forte, Rio Vermelho, Lagoa, Curuzu e o caralho, fui desfilando as atrações e aí eu falei "Então beleza, boa viagem e boa sorte, qualquer coisa grita."

Neecy was dead to the streets, no longer buying drugs, no longer selling sex. The street was convinced she was shot by a john, her body dumped in the river. No. She was living in a small room, down to only smoking menthols, to only selling the Lord. She was true clean, not Hunts Point clean. Detox and rehab.

After three months she came back to Hunts Point to bring some brochures of salvation to old friends. Her body, gnarled from twenty-seven years of drugs and prostitution, now finally clean, gathered itself together and kept pace with her huge smile. “I feel great.”

Two weeks later she was living under a bridge, in Michael’s cave, nude save for blankets, fresh marks on her skin. She hugged me, and broke down in tears. “Want a story? How about relapse. How about a girl gets a bit of cash, gets lonely, misses her friends. Please don’t judge me. I am already embarrassed enough for myself.”

She wouldn’t let go of me, sobbing and shaking. “Can I get you anything?” “No. I don’t deserve shit.”

I like blue and green! Urban colors as seen under the DLR bridge in London, with the towers of Canary Wharf in the background...

Docklands is the semi-official name for an area in East and South East London, comprising parts of several boroughs (Southwark, Tower Hamlets, Newham and Greenwich). The docks were formerly part of the Port of London, at one time the world's largest port. They have now been redeveloped principally for commercial and residential use. The name London Docklands was used for the first time in a government report on redevelopment plans in 1971 but has since become virtually universally adopted. It also created conflict between the new and old communities of the London Docklands.

Popular culture

Charles Dickens makes frequent use of the riverside and docklands in novels such as Our Mutual Friend and Great Expectations, and there is a memorable description of the docks, their buildings and people, in Joseph Conrad's The Mirror of the Sea. The Docklands are also the location of District 1, the most functional section of Britain during the outbreak of Rage Virus and the headquarters for Army Officials in Juan Carlos Fresnadillo's 2007 movie 28 Weeks Later.link

At the last moment we decided to book a last minute to Sardinia - Italy. In October it is still around 25 degrees celcius. Sardinia is the second largest island in the Mediterranean Sea with a lenght of 270 km. This is an island where coastal drives thrill, prehistory puzzles, and sheep four million of them rule the roads. Sardinia captivates with its wild interior, dazzling beaches and endearing eccentricities. The island is deceptive – it looks small on paper, but unravel it and it is huge. The highest peak on the island extends to almost 2000 meters. A lovely and peaceful island without extravagance. Beautiful beaches and rugged mountains, dotted with relics of a long history of Roman, Arabic, and Spanish overlords. The island is also a culinary one-off, with distinct takes on pasta, bread and dolci, its own wines and cheeses. Sardinians are proud of their island, and so they should be.

Costa Rei on is located just 20 kilometers north-east of Villasimius. This beach resort area stretches for 9 kilometers between Capo Ferrato to the north, and Sant’elmo to the south. Costa Rei has long beaches with sand and water in colors that Sardinia is so famous for. Photo of children playing on the Costa Rei beach.

One of the county's more dramatic beaches. It gets it's name from the huge slate outcrops scattered along the beach and not the inordinate number of steps you need to go down to get to the beach. It is said that the outcrops were put there by Bedruthan, a giant, and used as stepping stones.

At low tide the beach itself stretches for over a mile with plenty of interesting nooks and crannies.

As the numerous warning signs point out the cliffs are dangerous as are the tides and there is a good deal of potential to become cut off at high tide

Nearby are Carnewas cliffs owned by the National Trust with a cafe and toilets. Looking West from here you get a good view of Newquay bay.

Shot it at Kumbha Mela 2010.Its a greatest show on Earth.

In Hindu mythology, its origin is found in one of the popular creation myths and the Hindu theories on evolution, the Samudra manthan episode (Churning of the ocean of milk), which finds mention in the Bhagavata Purana, Vishnu Purana, the Mahabharata, and the Ramayana.

The Gods had lost their strength, and to regain it, they thought of churning the Ksheera Sagara (primordial ocean of milk) for amrit (the nectar of immortality), this required them to make a temporary agreement with their arch enemies, the demons or Asuras, to work together with a promise of sharing the nectar equally thereafter. However, when the Kumbha (urn) containing the amrita appeared, a fight ensued. For twelve days and twelve nights (equivalent to twelve human years) the gods and demons fought in the sky for the pot of amrita. It is believed that during the battle, Lord Vishnu flew away with the Kumbha of elixir, and that is when drops of amrita fell at four places on earth: Prayag, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nashik, and that is where the Kumbh Mela is observed every twelve years.

First written evidence of the Kumbha Mela can be found in the accounts of Chinese traveller, Huan Tsang or Xuanzang (602 - 664 A.D.) who visited India in 629 -645 CE, during the reign of King Harshavardhana.

Camp Crystal Lake...

This image is probably my personal favorite, I love winter, and its returning to Australia soon. The fog will be forming and photographers will be out in force... including me.

Landscape photography is all about trying to be in the right place, at the right time. Seconds before this shot was taken the fog covered the lake like a thick blanket. It felt spooky, the fog felt alive and I think we woke it up, because before we knew it, it was all around us, it had lifted from the lake and rushed us.

Enjoy.

About Camp Crystal Lake

Camp Crystal Lake, the setting for many films in the Friday the 13th (franchise) series.

About Lake Moogerah

Lake Moogerah, formed by Moogerah Dam, is a water supply and irrigation dam on Reynolds Creek, a tributary of the Bremer River in Southeast Queensland's Fassifern Valley. The lake is used for recreation, fishing and camping.

The lake is located around 60 km southwest of Ipswich, and about 90 minutes drive from Brisbane. Boonah is the nearest town, about 15 km from the lake.

Construction on the dam began in 1959, although land for the project was resumed as early as 1916. Moogerah Dam was completed in 1961 as the central catchment of the Warrill Valley Water Supply Scheme. The dam wall at Lake Moogerah allows access to Mount Edwards in Moogerah Peaks National Park.

The dam supplies drinking water to the towns of Boonah and Ipswich, although the main user is the Swanbank Power Station. It also supplies irrigation water to small crop farms in the Fassifern Valley.

There is a popular caravan park at Moogerah Dam. Higher Ground Australia operate Camp Moogerah at the lake for church youth groups. On the western shore are Camp Mallon and Camp Laurence which offer group accommodation camps with educational and adventure activities for school students, family and church groups. On the southern shore is the Brisbane Grammar School Pepperina Hill Campsite, which is primarily used for grade 8-10 camps.

During the 1995 drought dam levels declined to a low of 1% total capacity

'Moogerah' comes from the aboriginal word Moojirah meaning home of the thunderstorm.
