Sand all lumber, wiping down with a damp cloth. Be sure to sand the corners and anywhere else that might be a snag-hazard.

 

According to the directions on the wood stain, give your boards several coats of stain, allowing 2 hours of dry time in between coats. Then apply at least two coats of Polycrilic sealer according to the directions, allowing to dry in between. This is a two day process!

Three flashes in an umbrella means your refresh rate is much faster than a single flash. 1 hour photo shoot with each firing at 1/16 I could sustain a rate of about 2 shots a second, with bursts of up to three. 400 shots no problem.

I used a pre-folded double fold bias tape to create the bound edge on these placemats. There are several ways to attache the binding, I pinned mine in place and sewed straight down, making sure that the thread was correctly sewing on both the front and back of the placemat.
