This recipe had its origins in the Banana Cake recipe by Pichet Ong (see www.flickr.com/photos/taking5/3352958593/in/album-7215765...)
This time round, I decided to replace some flour with cocoa powder.
Verdict: the recipe actually suggested adding choc chips as a variation and I think this is the better way to go. The cocoa powder masked some of the Flavours which made this cake such a winner - the cinnamon and honey Flavours didn't come through.
I totally fell in love with Merlin. He was the sweetest, most chill cockapoo, and he had the softest fur. Aw.
This is about a kilo (before peeling) of fruit, ready for soup-making. I left a couple intact for reference.
I was too lazy to make them for the 4th.
It's been quite a while since I've barbecued properly, so it was a nice surprise when these came out well. Usually I torch the first ribs of the season into a hot leathery mess.
I an experimenting in the kitchen again. I am making a kind of stew - this is it starting to boil down - I will simmer it for about 90 minutes. I combined Masaman Curry, coconut milk, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, chicken, cumin, paprika, salt, black pepper, turmeric, green onion, white onion, yellow peppers, red peppers, green peppers, okra, corn, peas, broccoli, cauliflower, carrot and garlic. I will add a little whole wheat post right before serving. I have no idea how it will taste, but I like to try new things.
For anyone who hasn't tried cabbage raw (but has to be finely shredded - I use a Japanese slicer), this is habit forming. Great with grilled or fried foods.
I cooked these ingredients in vegetable broth:
- 1 lb of ground beef
- 2 eggs
- cauliflower florets
- chopped carrots
- peas
- 1 tsp garlic
- pinch of salt
Then stirred in 1/2 can of pumpkin.
Sunday brunch - blueberry waffles topped with blueberries, walnuts and honey. They're ugly, but nice comfort food.
butternut squash was a recipe from ina garten & chicken was my interpretation of nigel slater's. so good....
Crespelli (Italian crepes) filled with mushrooms and asparagus, in a light veggie-stock based broth. For a secondi, once we had eaten all the other pasta... whew.
Post about meal made with tasty Florentine stuff, imported by us.
I used this pannacotta recipe from BBC Food: www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/vanillapannacotta_87907
But instead of vanilla, I added some lavender (bought from Hokkaido some time back) and steeped it in the cream and milk. Topped with a little honey. The raspberries are optional. I added them in because otherwise it looked rather plain. The other change I made to the recipe was to top up the cream and milk and gelatine slightly (to 300ml cream, 300ml milk, 3.5 gelatine leaves).
I was also pretty lazy and just served them in glasses. Too lazy to oil the glasses and turn out the pannacotta!
Came out rather nicely, if I do say so myself.
Broiled Atlantic salmon topped with blistered Blush Torpedo tomatoes, market-fresh lima beans in basil butter, sliced heirloom tomato with a drizzle of balsamic glaze.
For Dinner tonight I tried my hand at making a calzone (with what I had available in the house). I made a simple pizza dough. For the filling I used low fat ricotta cheese, Parmesan cheese, mozzarella cheese, oregano, olive oil, minced anchovies, chopped pastrami, and a little pasta sauce.
Here it is by the slice.
