Sunday brunch - blueberry waffles topped with blueberries, walnuts and honey. They're ugly, but nice comfort food.
butternut squash was a recipe from ina garten & chicken was my interpretation of nigel slater's. so good....
Crespelli (Italian crepes) filled with mushrooms and asparagus, in a light veggie-stock based broth. For a secondi, once we had eaten all the other pasta... whew.
Post about meal made with tasty Florentine stuff, imported by us.
I used this pannacotta recipe from BBC Food: www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/vanillapannacotta_87907
But instead of vanilla, I added some lavender (bought from Hokkaido some time back) and steeped it in the cream and milk. Topped with a little honey. The raspberries are optional. I added them in because otherwise it looked rather plain. The other change I made to the recipe was to top up the cream and milk and gelatine slightly (to 300ml cream, 300ml milk, 3.5 gelatine leaves).
I was also pretty lazy and just served them in glasses. Too lazy to oil the glasses and turn out the pannacotta!
Came out rather nicely, if I do say so myself.
Broiled Atlantic salmon topped with blistered Blush Torpedo tomatoes, market-fresh lima beans in basil butter, sliced heirloom tomato with a drizzle of balsamic glaze.
For Dinner tonight I tried my hand at making a calzone (with what I had available in the house). I made a simple pizza dough. For the filling I used low fat ricotta cheese, Parmesan cheese, mozzarella cheese, oregano, olive oil, minced anchovies, chopped pastrami, and a little pasta sauce.
Here it is by the slice.
Tonight's dinner was stir fried chicken in a pepper sauce, soy sauce, and sherry mixture, with green beans, broccoli, peas, carrots, corn, little pasta bow-ties, peppers, several spices, and bean sprouts.
Caesar salad to go with my dinner. I didn't read the main course recipe close enough and didn't notice that the chicken had to marinate an hour before you cook it. I had to go ahead and eat my salad while the chicken marinates so that I wouldn't gnaw off my arm.
Cropped, filtered and enhanced for the final cover: this is the original photo I took. As you can see, there was no "compositing" of the image: everything you see in the final cover was there in the original photo.
I made the filling: pork, marinated in soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, rice wine, scallions, peppers. Dumpling wrapper made from flour, water and oil.
I woke up early so I made brunch
waffles, omelette, crispy broiled smoked bacon, sauteed mushrooms, and sliced tomatoes with fresh crushed peppered. The waffles were pretty good especially for my first time.
But my omelette didn't turn out well...not enough oil and the non-stick pan is no longer non-stick.
Sliced fishballs were lightly sautéed in oil 1st for the tofu dish. Rika has made a big step in accepting commercially produced fish cakes and fishballs in her diet just recently! She has been refusing to eat them as a kid.
thai sausage! pork, lemongrass, fish sauce, peppers... flown in from oaklahoma. birthday present from lats and grace. yum!
My mom, the best cook in the world to me. This is fetuccini with white cream sauce and parsely herbs. A clean, veggie pasta.
I made -- I don't know what to call it. I cut up chicken ans stir fried it in pepper oil and olive oil, with carrots, broccoli, onions, red peppers, green peppers, yellow peppers, and potatoes. I spiced it with crushed red pepper, cayenne pepper, adobo, turmeric, red curry, salt, black pepper, Hungarian hot paprika, and Sylvia's Soul Food Chicken Rub.
We bought some beef during grocery shopping and I tried to use the grill we got recently (at a great price) to cook it, I think it's a little bit too well done LOL but the rest of the sides were gooood, I'm so glad I have some mash potato for tomorrow's lunch :P
Learnt how to make this at a cooking demonstration (recipes provided but copyrighted so not reproducing here).
Melts very very fast but heavenly melting in mouth. (Icing sugar coating sort of also melting into the surface of the truffle). Unbelievably rich and sinful. Not for dieters or diabetics for that matter.
