Cast-on 40 stitches, size 2 needles, Blue Sky Alpaca Skinny Cotton in Squash. WAY too small and tight. Each time I'd slide it onto my phone to check it, it would press the volume and power buttons on the sides. Still, I kept knitting, convinced I could block it later.
Instead, I decided to unravel it this evening and begin again.
The slow cooling of the basalt resulted in an extraordinary pattern of predominantly hexagonal columns which form the faces and walls of the principal caves. The lava contracted towards each of a series of equally spaced centres as it cooled and solidified into prismatic columns. The columns typically have three to eight sides, six being most common. The columns are also divided horizontally by cross joints. Similar formations are found at the Giant's Causeway In Ireland, on the island of Ulva and Ardmeanach on the Isle of Mull.
I think I've only got 6 more hexagons to sew on and I've got them all! I think it's coming together nicely :)

Made from charity quilts fabric from my quilt guild, this is Hexagon Park, a free pattern from the Moda Bake Shop. Lily's Quilts made this pattern.
Since I used the guild's charity fabric, this quilt must go to our charity project. It came out so delightful, I can only imagine how the person receiving this quilt will feel when she picks it out. We donate our quilts to a shelter for victims of domestic violence.
Another custom order: this time they are hexagon flower box purse! I used the customer lady's own fabrics which are of fabric designer Jo Morton for Andover Fabrics.

Fused these hexagons to a sheer-weight stabilizer; placing them snugly together. Machine quilted and ready for binding.

I became a little obsessed with the Hexagon Pincushion pattern this weekend. For the first I used DK weight yarn and the results are more small pillow size than pincushion. For the second I used Perle Cotton embroidery floss. It's much more pincushion sized.
Granny afghan in one big hexagon - it doesn't want to lay flat, I can now see why most hexagon patterns use small hexagons sewn together or call it a ripple hexagon. It will continue in the same color pattern and then I'll add a border - still has a long way to go!
Saturn's hexagonal polar jet stream is the shining feature of almost every view of the north polar region of Saturn. The region, in shadow for the first part of the Cassini mission, now enjoys full sunlight, which enables Cassini scientists to directly image it in reflected light.
This view looks toward Saturn from about 31 degrees above the ring plane. The image was taken with the Cassini spacecraft wide-angle camera on Jan. 22, 2017 using a spectral filter which preferentially admits wavelengths of near-infrared light centered at 939 nanometers.
The view was obtained at a distance of approximately 560,000 miles (900,000 kilometers) from Saturn. Image scale is 33 miles (54 kilometers) per pixel.
This is the first blanket I made. I started playing with the yarn, doing spirals, and I finished making a lot of this strange hexagons... It's not my favourite one, but I'm very fond of it!!!
