Folded from a hexagonal piece of paper.
The circles in this model are actually octadecagons, that is, polygons with 18 sides.
If the side length of the hexagon we start with is 1,
then the side length of the completed model is 1-sin(20°)/tan(80°)≈0.879,
and so the efficiency of this tessellation is as high as (1-sin(20°)/tan(80°))²≈0.773.
The configuration of octadecagons is the same as that of Eric Gjerde's Spread Hexagons.
My hubbys been at my camera again when i wasn't looking. I think he takes way better pics than me - but don't tell him i said that or his head will swell :-)
Back of a doll quilt for a friend's daughter who recently became a big sister. "Dancing in the flowers" theme inspired by my 3 year old, whose favorite things are dancing and flowers. Dancing girl is hand-stamped.
This is my second quilt, so please don't look too closely. ;)
I became a little obsessed with the Hexagon Pincushion pattern this weekend. For the first I used DK weight yarn and the results are more small pillow size than pincushion. For the second I used Perle Cotton embroidery floss. It's much more pincushion sized.
From a hexagon of copy paper.
The idea was a crossed box pleat box from a hexagon, but I ran out of paper, so here is a lid instead.
The hexagonal crossed box pleat is actually an old design of mine.

And struss.pagesperso-orange.fr/bonus/jardin.htm instead of using the hexagon template provided I used the 5 ½ hexagon ruler it was perfect for this project ,only one hexagon was done by hand and the rest by machine.
this is what i crocheted while esmond napped today. he is still napping so i have time to upload the picture as well. this is the second hexagon i crocheted. the first got wonky because i added an extra cluster somewhere in the middle and then got an extra long side...so i gave that one to esmond to play with.
123 Quilt, Heather Ross charm pack and some canvas. No interfacing. Should probably use light interfacing on hexagons next time just to make it a little sturdier.
In Ireland, there lived a gentle giant named Fionn mac Cumhaill (Finn McCool). At 52 feet 6 inches tall, he was a relatively small giant. Across the sea in Scotland, there was a rival giant called Benandonner.
The two Giants hollered across the sea of Moyle, each demanding a trial of strength. This was agreed, and hospitable Finn offered to make the contest possible by building a rocky causeway between the two countries. Finn built a path across the sea from County Antrim to Benandonner's lair--Fingal's cave on the island of Staffa--but the work was so laborious that Finn fell asleep with exhaustion.
Oonagh--Finn's wife and a giantess--woke up early the next morning to find Finn sound asleep. Then she heard the sound of thunderous footsteps and saw the mighty Benandonner approaching. He was truly gigantic. Finn would be no match against this Scottish giant. Quick thinking Oonagh covered the sleeping Finn with a nightgown and bonnet.
"Where's Finn?" bellowed Benandonner, "Where is the coward hiding?"
He peered at the sleeping Finn.
"Be quiet," Oonagh warned Benandonner, "or you'll waken the bairn!"
Benandonner panicked. If the child was this big, how much bigger might Finn be? He did not stay to find out... He hastily retreated across the causeway, destroying it in his wake.
as of 4/16 - but I have since finished that fourth row and started the fifth!
I've also become OCD and am writing down every combination so I don't repeat any. it adds a little more of a challenge and will be a neat aspect, I think, when I'm done.
From hexagon.
Variations from Barbara Janssen-Frank's boxes.
Her diagrams are here.
This one has a masu closure.
Reminds me of the Cairo masu experiments.
Cast-on 40 stitches, size 2 needles, Blue Sky Alpaca Skinny Cotton in Squash. WAY too small and tight. Each time I'd slide it onto my phone to check it, it would press the volume and power buttons on the sides. Still, I kept knitting, convinced I could block it later.
Instead, I decided to unravel it this evening and begin again.
