I cheated and machine-sewed the hexagons... that English Paper Piecing business just wasn't going to work for me!
Hexagonal Box

Thirds from a hexagon. Simple reference that gives both parallel and perpendicular to diagonals. In case anyone needs it.
Inspired by Norah Gaughan's Brea Bag, this afghan will use her basic hexagon design and a complimentary triangle of my own design. Eventually it will be about 3' x 5'.
Please read the very good answers from our contacts. It looks like a hexagon but could also be an octagon in shape looking in "Plan" view. 3 faces in front, 2 in the sides and 2 in the back. I think all are possible answers and deserve a prize for correctness in principle. The only way to find out is to fly my quadcopter and give an aerial shot. Maybe one of these days. But I strongly suspect it is octagonal in shape.

A closeup of the individual motifs seamed into their hexagon shapes. Still a bit damp from being sprayed yesterday, so I'll leave these for a couple of days now to dry out before seaming them into the afghan configuration.
Handstitched hexagons using some of my most precious low volume scraps. Handquilted and ready for snuggling. Just looking at this makes me happy!
Nasty, cold, wet night .... perfect for taking shots ... grabbed the tripod for some long exposures .... looked over the camera collection .... Hmmmmmmm ..... Minolta XE-7 is built like a tank .... good choice .... slapped on the MC W Rokkor-SG 28mm f3.5 lens ..... grabbed some old expired Kodak Gold 400 ..... dressed up warm ....... and out the door I go.
Normally, I shoot night shots handheld at high ISO's so I am mobile but I thought I would change things up a bit and experiment with some long exposures at small apertures.
Here are some of the results.
