Helmsman: Wait! I know such a man who's stupid enough to plot the path this very moment. He's at the local tavern bragging about his ties with some particular clan. Name's Wolverstone.

D Class Lifeboat Crews have to Retire from duty 5 years earlier than the main Lifeboats' Crew, this is because this Class of Lifeboat (here in Llandudno Dr. Barbara Saunderson)
HAS NO SEATS, the Crew have to KNEEL IN THE BOAT,
picture yourself over the years, IN ROUGH SEAS, having forces acting on your knees-the reason why forced retirement !
Graham Heritage, pictured, Llandudno Lifeboat Station's volunteer Coxswain, was recognised for 30 years service to the RNLI last year 2018 and will continue to perform his key role as Coxswain of the station's all weather lifeboat,
William F. Yates, continuing a FAMILY TRADITION, Graham's Father, Dennis, was a crew member for many years and Graham's middle son, Luke, is now both a helmsman of the inshore lifeboat and an ASSISTANT MECHANIC of the all weather lifeboat.

This is the underpass of the Fanno Creek Trail and Scholls Ferry Road in Beaverton... taken from the Beaverton side.
Often this area floods during fall/winter storms. At night when approaching from Tigard it's nearly impossible (even with bright headlights) to tell how deep it is until you're in it already up to your ass.
I recently crossed here in 18+ inches of water... I had thought that it was closer to 9 inches going in.
I've added reflective markers at 1, 2, and 3 foot marks on three of the fence posts to help gauge the depth. Then someone removed them due to concerns that they would end up in the stream and cause problems for the aquatic life within.
I spoke once to the person, and he expressed concerns that nobody should go through there when there's water on the path as we don't know what kind of waste materials (dog feces etc) might be in it. What I find disturbing was how he'd rather risk the health of the stream by not allowing other cyclists to make informed decisions of the depth there (thus dragging chain lube and road grime through it), as well as the health of the cyclists he wants to protect from "waterbourne illnesses".

Your job, really, is co-pilot with a fancy name. You can do all the things the Helmsman can do, and better, only your moments of glory somehow never make it to the final edit.
Insignia: Navigator: In the old days, you needed one guy on the tiller all the time, and someone else (usually the guy with the math) to plot a course, and to figure out how to tell you're where you're supposed to be when you make your next course change. This guy with the fancy map and the fancy math was the Navigator.
Now he just keeps the Helmsman company. More accurately, the Navigator has access to all the controls and consoles that the Helmsman does, so that you can have two things going on at once, say, disembarking from a station while plotting a course, or evasive maneuvers while plotting return fire. On airplanes, this is the co-pilot or the Naval Flight Officer (informally Guy In Back or GIB), since we learned from the tail-gunner era that the best thing to keep a pilot frosty and in focus was to have a guy snarking at him for the entire flight.
So yeah. If you're the on-bridge designated plucky comedy relief. This is your position.
Crew Position insignias will appear near the bottom of the card much like the item image on Offworld Technology cards (such as the tuba icon here). As per the Helmsman, the Navigator is part of the Astrometrics department that measures the operation of the orbs and how to move through them without smacking into anything.

Traditional Narrowboat and 'Butty' combination Jupiter and Saturn photographed at Rudheath on the Trent and Mersey canal, en-route from Anderton to Middlewich for a folk and boat weekend.
Both are owned by the Historic Narrowboat Club.
Jupiter (formerly Hawk) was built in 1926 by Yarwoods of Northwich for Fellows Clayton and Moreton.
Saturn is the last surviving wooden Shropshire Union “Fly-boat”, built in Chester in 1906.
Her job was to rush cheese and produce, fresh from the farms of Cheshire and Shropshire, to the markets of the industrial towns and cities, running 24 hours, day & night using a relay team of horses.
Photo taken from a bridge over the canal.
Rather than having an electric or airhorn, the helmsman blew a traditional hunting horn as a warning as they approached the bend.

FAIRWEATHER got caught out by a strong storm that moved through south of our survey area. Even in the sheltered waters of Chatham Strait we encountered strong winds and large-ish seas. The photos don't do it justice, but here they are anyway.
The conversation on the bridge, as we ran ahead of 70knot winds was about who would go up to the bow for photos. No one wanted to go so me and the helmsman had to step up. That's me on the left.
