Just as we started upriver, the helmsman suddenly turned us about and shot over near the riverbank to show us a crocodile launching itself into the water!
Up till then, it hadn't occurred to me that there WERE crocodiles in the river...

I dont know how the Great Helmsman and Swimmer of the Mighty Yangtze River, The Chairman Himself, would appreciate this version of the Communist Worker's Paradise
Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
De Boeg (The Bow) is a war memorial in Rotterdam. It commemorates the 3,500 crew members of Dutch merchant ships that lost their lives in the Second World War. The monument of Fred Carasso was unveiled by Princess Margriet on 10 April 1957 on the corner of the Boompjes and the Leuvehaven. The 46 meters high aluminum construction symbolizes a bow in the concrete waves. Later, on July 15, 1965, an 8-meter high bronze sculpture group of five sailors bound by a nautical line at the base of De Boeg was added to the monument: a helmsman, three sailors and a drowned one. On the side is the text: Zij hielden koers (They kept course).

I was at the helm for about 30 minutes. Super fun, as I've never helmed a boat with a wheel before. Odd that I had to think about steering "normally". My natural inclination was to steer in reverse like one does using a tiller.
