After 30 years as helmsman with SFF favourites The Oysterband, John Jones has teamed up with friends old and new to explore and re-invent some of the classic traditional songs he loved in his youth. 'Rising Road' is the name of the show and newly released CD. An excellent set from the Bellstone Tent.

This bent screwdriver has been prying stuff open for us for years. We
have begun the process of polyurethaning our fence posts. Opening the
can we had with left over urethane was quite the task.
This Beneteau Oceanis 37, launched in 2012, has been lightly used and has always been professionally maintained to a high standard. She only had one owner from new and has never been chartered. She performs well under sail and is easy to handle with her mainsail with lazy bag system and furling foresail. And, the self-tailing winches are situated within reach of the helmsman's position. Furthermore, equipped with a: 29hp Yanmar diesel engine with low engine hours, Simrad navigation, bespoke bimini and sunshade, sprayhood, life raft, etc.
The interior of this Beneteau Oceanis 37 is comfortable and thoughtfully laid out. She has an owner’s cabin forward, 2 double bed guest cabins aft, and a head compartment to starboard. Additionally, the dinette area can be converted into an extra bed. She feels and behaves like a bigger boat and is the ideal yacht for those who are looking for a midsize family cruiser.

We started our day in Krakow with a visit to Lagiewniki and the Shrine of Divine Mercy. There in the convent, St Faustina had visions and revelations of God's mercy.
This site is a very popular place of pilgrimage, so a large basilica has been constructed nearby the original church to accommodate the number of people that visit at certain times of year. This is the exterior of the basilica. It's profile was inspired by that of a ship, with the bell tower representing the mast. The bell tower is crowned with a shape similar to a bishop's mitre (hat), and at the base of the mast is a statue of St. John Paul II who poses "in Persona Christi" as the helmsman of souls.

Albacore was conceived and built during the outset of the cold war and the era of the nuclear navy. Her contemporary, the Nautilus, wedded the typical hull shape of the submarine of that time with a nuclear power plant, and this was seen by the Navy as the future. Amidst this excitement, Charles Momsen proposed a "target ship" be built to allow surface based sub hunters to practice their techniques. With Navy approval for this conceit, and perhaps less than usual oversight on a project for building an unarmed target sub, Momsen was free to turn the design team loose with the sole aim of building a vessel which was faster and more maneuverable than any submarine -nuclear or otherwise powered- built before. Notice the seatbelts on the floor below the helmsman's seat. The periscope, while it is fixed in place, is still in working order, and through it one can peer at the old Route 1 bridge.

Fishermen's Memorial Statue (1925)
The inscription is taken from Psalm 107, verse 23, line 24, which reads as follows:
"They that go down to the sea in ships,
That do business in great waters;
These see the works of the Lord,
And his wonders in the deep."
The sculptor was Leonard Craske and the dedication was August 23, 1925. The bronze monument consists of a nearly square base of sea green granite, carried from the famous "Blood Ledge" in the Bay View section of Gloucester. The stone is cut with a rough finish to typify the rugged character of the figure, with a single panel on the front holding the bronze letters of inscription, "They that go down to the sea in ships". 1623 - 1923.
The pose chosen is that of a helmsman bringing his craft up as close hauled to the wind as possible to clear some dangerous rocks, his eyes being fixed on the sails to detect the first indication that they are beginning to spill the wind, every muscle being strained to hold the wheel firmly until the peril is passed.
This is a memorial to all of the Gloucester fishermen who in years since Gloucester was settled in 1623 have lost their lives while fishing. It faces the outer harbor in Gloucester, Massachusetts.
