111105-N-SF704-033 PACIFIC OCEAN (Nov. 5, 2011) - Seaman David Burton from Albuquerque, N.M., uses the shipÕs helm on the navigation bridge to keep the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) on course in the Pacific Ocean. Burton is responsible for maintaining the shipÕs proper course under direction of the conning officer during watch as the shipÕs helmsman. George Washington pulled out of her forward-operating port of Yokosuka, Japan Sept. 19 to continue her 2011 patrol. As the NavyÕs only full-time forward deployed carrier, George WashingtonÕs mission is to help ensure security and stability in the western Pacific Ocean. This takes forever so please look at the large version of the pic.

After the fancy rope work is done it gets 2 coats of shellac, 2 coats of Swedish pine tar & 4 coats of Helmsman spar varnish. It's the end of a kayak fishing tool so it spends time in the ocean.

Mostafa skippered the felluca Sunshine. On the return trip after the sun had set he sang a Nubian song. He sang as well as he sailed.

Next stop at the tour was at Västerlånggatan. Above the door number 24 this kitty, or other say it's a Mustelidae, is placed.

It's connected to a story about a Swedish ship that had problems out at sea. The weather had been abate for days and the ship had stood still for days.

When the helmsman tossed a coin in the water the water opened and a stair showed up. On the stair a mermaid sat and she asked the helmsman to follow her.

He did, and she gave him a letter. He had to promise to leave it to a Herr Måns or Mister Måns at the road Västerlångatan. It was very important, and he had to deliver it at the moment they arrived to Stockholm.

He promised, and when he was onboard of the ship again the wind blew and they could anchor at Stockholm.

The helmsman forgot about the letter for a couple of days. When he saw it he went to Västerlånggatan to give it to Herr Måns. At the right house he asked the maids where Herr Måns was.

The maids laughed, because the only Herr Måns in the house was their cat. But the cat started to talk and said that he wanted the letter. He read it and said to the helmsman that it would have been better for the two of them that he had gotten the letter right away.

The cat then jumped on the man and clawed him to death. The cat escaped trough the window and froze to the statue over the door.

Strange story isn't it? I really wonder what the letter said that made the cat so angry.

Het Lage Licht / the Low Light

The first lighthouses in Hoek van Holland, the "high" and the "low" light, were placed during the construction of the Nieuwe Waterweg (1866-1886). The lighthouses were needed to guide shipping safely to the port of Rotterdam. How? That is actually very simple. If the helmsman on the ship has the lamps of both lighthouses exactly in line, and he follows that line, he will end up exactly at the mouth of the Nieuwe Waterweg.

After the construction of the first Maasvlakte at the beginning of the 1970s, new lighthouses must be built to form that line of lights. The Lage Licht is switched off in 1967 and moves to the head of the Leuvehaven ten years later. In 1990 the lighthouse is moved to where it is now.

This Beneteau Oceanis 37, launched in 2012, has been lightly used and has always been professionally maintained to a high standard. She only had one owner from new and has never been chartered. She performs well under sail and is easy to handle with her mainsail with lazy bag system and furling foresail. And, the self-tailing winches are situated within reach of the helmsman's position. Furthermore, equipped with a: 29hp Yanmar diesel engine with low engine hours, Simrad navigation, bespoke bimini and sunshade, sprayhood, life raft, etc.

The interior of this Beneteau Oceanis 37 is comfortable and thoughtfully laid out. She has an owner’s cabin forward, 2 double bed guest cabins aft, and a head compartment to starboard. Additionally, the dinette area can be converted into an extra bed. She feels and behaves like a bigger boat and is the ideal yacht for those who are looking for a midsize family cruiser.
