Last year our blueberry bushes did not produce ANY blueberries. This year, one of them is loaded with berries. It's still early, but I'm getting about 30 berries a day right now. It's enough for snacks or making blueberry pancakes, but I'll have to hit up the blueberry farm to have enough for muffins and pies. (That won't be for a week or two)

an outtake from the shoot below. i really really like this, but after having my friend get dressed up for the shoot, it seemed wrong to not use that image, you know?
[Darband, Tehran, Iran] Large glass bowls containing a colorful variety of sun-dried fruits and sour lavashak in the mountain market of Darband in northern Tehran, inviting mountain climbers to a healthy snack.

It's the season, pick your own berries! ... First, I had some sweet outdoors fun, then indoors. It's been a while since I did any still life, so I tried a food shot today. The white balance here was set from a gray card, which I thought worked great for the blueberries. However, the bowl and the white background got some strange purple color cast that I decided to remove in post-processing. Not sure if it was light reflected from the berries or what bt it looked really strange. The other shot I took with auto white balance had a neutral (a little warm) white bowl and background but the blueberries looked too dark and black.
Photographed with natural light only, set up next to a window. White mat board curved and clamped on a chair used for the white background.
Caught the last of the winter late afternoon sunlight bursting through our kitchen on this one. The recipe is here: englishcountrycooking.co.uk/recipes/veggie/carrot-hummus-...
This is also for the theme of Out with the Old - relating to the fact that each January a large number of us swap to healthy eating and going to the gym. So instead of the chocolate and crisps of the Christmas period, that's out and now we have healthy food.

"In My Bag" is the topic for Macro Mondays, and the bags I brought home from my monthly shopping spree at Costco gave me lots of choices, one of which was a jar of Energy Blend, which, according to the label, contains edamame (whatever that is), cranberries, almonds and pumpkin kernels ~ antioxidant infused cranberries with blueberry pomegranate juice & natural strawberry flavor.....?? `~'
Whatever...
It sounds healthy, and whenever I feel the need for a snack, I guess it beats cheese and crackers (the jury's still out on that one).
To capture this image, I just stuck my 105mm Micro Nikkor lens down into the jar, set a remotely fired SB 600 flash to the side of the clear plastic jar and took a bunch of shots, scrambling the contents in hopes of coming up with a Flickr worthy image.

Meet Fruity Fred. I tell you....what we won't do to get our children to try new foods! The red currants and kiwi are foods that I'm now trying to get my 2 year old to eat. They are SOUR and he makes the sour face perfectly! I THINK I've converted him after meeting Fred though---thanks Fred :)
