Having just arrived on the Reading Turn (RBMN QARG-26), two ex-Santa Fe GP30s pull forward after dropping their train in Norfolk Southern's Spring Street Yard.

At least once a month we create a random sky box full of mystery and intrigue, just for single photo.
It isn't often we go back and recreate a space or make it feel more like us, more like home.
Until last night.

This hummer hovered for a bit over this huge zinnia. Then she decided to sit down for a meal this big.
When I see a hummer sitting on the job, I usually think it's a baby. They get tired.
These zinnias were mislabeled at the nursery. They were supposed to be red and NOT so double.
Makes it more difficult to feed from.
Today we have another Poole Studio photo, this one commissioned by our legal friend, Henry D. Keane, Esq.
Any and all suggestions as to why this photo was commissioned by a solicitor will be very gratefully received. At the very least, we hope to find out about the licensee, Edward Egan.

I have never seen a river flow as fast as this part of the River Slaney, I guess the last few months of rain have kept river levels high and fast.
I added a 10 stop filter to allow the long exposure in daylight.
PADDY: "Did you have a nice day today, Emmett?"
EMMETT: "Oh yes I did, Paddy!" *Sighs and smiles.*
PADDY: "What did you enjoy the most about today, Emmett?"
SCOUT: "Well, we enjoyed playing hide-and-seek together today, didn't we Emmett?"
PADDY: *Kindly.* "That's lovely, Scout, but I was asking Emmett what he enjoyed. I know you loved playing hide-and-seek with Emmett."
SCOUT: "Oh! Sorry Paddy!" *Puts paw to mouth.* "And yes I did!" *Smiles and cuddles Dolly.*
PADDY: "Emmett?"
EMMETT: "Well, I did enjoy having elevenses with Jago and Daisy-Maud, and I liked sitting on Orson's knee as he told me all about the flowers he likes, and I liked it when you read me a story, and I really liked getting lots of big little bear hugs and snuffly kisses from Daddy."
SCOUT: *Ahem.* "Clears throat.*
EMMETT: "And of course I really enjoyed playing hide-and-seek with Scout."
SCOUT: "See! I told you, Paddy." *Smiles.*
PADDY: "And do you think you will be happy to live here with us in Daddy's house, and make it your home."
EMMETT: "Oh yes Paddy! I know I am going to be very happy here, Paddy!"
PADDY: "That's good, Emmett, because we like having you in our family."
EMMETT: "Oh thank you, Paddy!"
SCOUT: "Paddy? Paddy!"
PADDY: "Yes Scout?"
SCOUT: "Paddy, can you read the story now?"
PADDY: "Oh yes, of course, Scout!"
SCOUT and EMMETT: "Thank you, Paddy."
PADDY: *Reading.* "There was once a woodcutter and his wife who had a dear little daughter. This little girl had blue eyes and curly golden hair, and she was as sweet-tempered as she was pretty, so that all the neighbours loved her. In the village next to the one in which the woodcutter and his family lived the little girl's grandmother had her home. Granny made a great pet of the little one, you may be sure. She bought a piece of scarlet cloth and made her a pretty cloak with a hood to it, and when she was dressed in this, the folks called her Little Red Riding Hood."
My Paddington Bear came to live with me in London when I was two years old (many, many years ago). He was hand made by my Great Aunt and he has a chocolate coloured felt hat, the brim of which had to be pinned up by a safety pin to stop it getting in his eyes. The collar of his mackintosh is made of the same felt. He wears wellington boots made from the same red leather used to make the toggles on his mackintosh.
He has travelled with me across the world and he and I have had many adventures together over the years. He is a very precious member of my small family.
Scout was a gift to Paddy from my friend. He is a Fair Trade Bear hand knitted in Africa. His name comes from the shop my friend found him in: Scout House. He tells me that life was very different where he came from, and Paddy is helping introduce him to many new experiences. Scout catches on quickly, and has proven to be a cheeky, but very lovable member of our closely knit family.
Made by Merrythought in England, Emmett is a charming little bear, sweet and smiling, crafted from multi-tonal marl grey mohair and featuring golden velvet paws. He is accessorised with a classic tartan woollen scarf. He is number 23 or a limited worldwide edition of 200.
Having been waiting for permission to proceed, 60021 -'Penyghent' was erupting into life as it got underway with the 09.21 Drax to Liverpool Bulk Terminal biomass empties (6M36), whilst in the opposite direction, the tail-end of the 12.31 Liverpool Bulk Terminal to Drax biomass, with 60026 -'Helvellyn' at the rear, was disappearing into Alexandra Dock Tunnel on the climb to Bootle Junction on February 25th 2023.
This is the 3rd time I have seen a deer and a Great Blue Heron (Possibly the same ones?) very close to each other for a period of time with no sign of stress. My first multiple critter reflection! :-})

Other people have built LEGO models of the F-22 production version, typically using one of many LEGO one-piece cockpit canopies. I don't think any of them come particularly close to the shape of the canopy of the YF-22, though, and most of my other aircraft have brick-built canopies. So, I went with a brick-built canopy for this model too. This has two drawbacks: it's obviously not very transparent and its construction means the pilot has to sit quite low. However, I like the look and I'm happy I managed to fit a pilot at all!
Having finished its work at the Vinyl plant in Nephi, UT the LUL57 heads north towards its next stop.
Have just repotted the olive tree. Hope it doesn't disturb the olives. It has lost a few leaves in the recent rain.
Having arrived in the yard he detached and pulled forward to run-round. Best we could get in the circumstances.
So very grateful for my life and the people in it. A few years ago I gave up on wanting materialist things and gained a better appreciation for the things in my life. I have never looked back at my former self and am much more content. Spending time with my family and friends, listening to the birds, smelling the fresh air are the true gifts to my happiness. Wishing you all a more simplistic life in appreciating what you have.

as i get older, and realize that this woman--a single-parent who managed to not only work in a crazy newsroom and put up with my brother's guns-n-roses "paradise city" being blasted at 7 am before school--somehow kept me fed and took me to art festivals and ballets and toted me to and from piano lessons, that i didn't practice for, and gymnastics classes and ballet and tap classes and pottery classes and a week at the beach every summer and walks in the neighborhood "following our noses" to the wisteria vines and makes me vegetarian lasagna and took me on a trip to the rainforest because i wanted to go before they disappeared,
when i think about how few hours i have in the day, as an adult, which i only recently conceded to becoming, i can't understand how she did it

let's raise a toast to a mom who can jam on an african drum, say a prayer in tibetan, write award-winning short stories, make ends meet, dance the tango, and still find the time to spoon-feed you love til you feel like you're going to overflow
and i'll tell you a secret, whenever i would wait for her to pick me up from daycare after she'd been away on a trip or i'd really missed her that day i would sit there and plan out a huge dash to the gate once i caught sight of her
and run into her arms
so here's to running to your mommy's open arms
and appreciating her super hero qualities
and never taking a mom who'll dance in the sand dunes for granted
cuz, like i said, she's the coolest.
would it be weird to say my mom is the best thing that ever happened to me? since i happened to her?

I ballsed this up pretty badly, so soft all over, but liked her mirroring the giraffe enough to keep it.
My wife and I have recently returned from a self-drive tour of some of the north-east states of the US.
This shot of Deno's Wonder wheel at Coney Island in the borough of Brooklyn, New York, was taken as we made our first brief scheduled stop after picking up the hire-car at JFK airport.
Unfortunately, as it was about 10am on a grey and rainy Monday morning when we arrived here, not a lot was open.
The place was kind of like a ghost town with barely anyone around. So we had a bit of a walk around on the boardwalk and enjoyed some of Nathan's famous hotdogs before getting back in the car and resuming our road trip.
The Long Journey.
I have seen several Snow Geese, Tundra Swans and other birds that are tagged. Apart from the scientific benefits of reporting the tags it is very interesting and astounding to find out where the birds were tagged and how far they travel.
Although most of the snow geese have departed from Bombay Hook NWR I found a small flock on 3/12/2018 with two birds both tagged at Bylot Island in the high Arctic (see attached certificate the top of the comment box). I am still in awe that these geese will soon be traveling at least that distance. Note the photograph is not one of the tagged birds

317722, the 317 test bed unit trialing AC traction motors amongst other things, is seen passing the Romford ROC on the Witham trials path, working 5F96 10+40 Ilford Depot - Witham. The unit was being tested after suffering one of its many 'sit down' moments, prior to going back into passenger service.
Getting the unit on the Witham trials path was necessary so it could have a proper 100mph run- something the West Anglia route does not offer. Ilford based drivers did not 'sign' 317722, despite being competent on 317 units, 722 was different due to the different equipment fitted to the train. The figure in the secondmans side window is an Ilford based driver, route conducting a Bishops Stortford based driver who signed the unit but not the route.
317722 was withdrawn during June 2016, and was moved to Ely Papworth Sidings during 2019 for storage.
At what one finds when participating in a train photo op. This chair sits outside by the loading dock of a once thriving business in Sanford, NC. No idea what was made, produced or transshipped as it is in rather sad condition. This overstuffed abandoned chair in the loading dock lot seems an interesting touch to the abandonment. Great looking chair wouldn't have minded having it when it was new. Click on the photo to view it in original size.
