What a lovely warm welcome to the seaside :))
This is on the beach and is the entrance to some beach huts ... or chalets as they like to call them ... but they are just very tatty over priced sheds.
Giant and Tiger Swallowtails have started returning to the backyard. The males always seem to show up first and they flit about furiously looking for a lady. This Giant beauty decided to take a break and fuel up so if a lady does drop in he will be ready to swoop her off her wings. Unless this is a lady that snuck in... I have a difficult time telling the giant boys from the girls unless the wings are open.

Spring maintenance also begins... Wow, there are a lot of oak leaves to rake and set out at the curb for the yard waste guys. I used to use oak leaves as a natural mulch but mosquitos love that so I don't do it anymore. The yard waste guy probably don't appreciate me in the spring but I sure appreciate them.
Of course I have a lot more to maintain than just fallen leaves. It's time to cut everything that needs a trim. I keep saying I am going to hire someone to assist me but I never follow through with that. I'm afraid they will not be as careful as I am when it comes to inspecting items prior to cutting them. I don't want a chrysalis to get accidently tossed out. And I am accustomed to watching my step in the yard so I don't step on a caterpillar that is on a journey, but others might not watch their step. Apparently I'm a worrywart when it comes to the critters in my yard.
Company will soon be here and I want everything to be beautiful :) If I were a Genie I could blink my eyes and all would be perfect. Then again, I would not get to spend the time in the yard so that might not be a good thing :) I love my yard time. Perhaps I should recruit my company to carefully assist.

Unloading is almost finished, and the 6D80 limestone train will soon form the 6H80 10.28 empties back to Tunstead.
At the time this service ran weekly, usually on a Wednesday. It was easy to capture as its speed through the unloader was so slow. Just as well, as coal workings were by then fairly infrequent as the last coal fired power station in the UK was due to close in 2024. The coal hoppers had arrived two days previously and the GBRF loco that brought them from Immingham left as a light engine.
On this day the temperature was just above freezing point with no wind, so it was on a fairly high output.
How we will miss these quiet giants that have been part of the UK landscape for over fifty years. This one started generating power in 1968 and has a maximum output of 2,000 megawatts.
Best enjoyed 'large'.
A careful look at the pile of coal will reveal two yellow mechanical shovels. They are constantly moving the coal to prevent fires which would occur due to the heating process that happens as the coal 'composts'.
A crow sits atop a leafless tree with branches going in every which way in a foggy Kelsey Creek Park, Bellevue, WA.
I have loved this old place from the time I first saw it. It was deconsecrated it after Hurricane Katrina and has been for sale for a while. 22,157 square feet! Oh my- it is my DREAM to buy it, have art studios and galleries there with living areas for ALL our friends to visit! Figure if I am into wishing, I might as well wish BIG! It could happen!
I don't guess a "Go Fund Me" thing would help enough? :)

Having returned to Shannon after maintenance in Warsaw ex Norwegian B787-9 OE-LNM was painted in Norse Atlantic colours by IAC named "Heart of the Valley"
Have a few new toys; a new Tokina 11-16mm and new version of Photomatix Pro. This was taken early AM Monte Sano State Park.

Clearly, some of our younger squirrels have a LOT to learn when it comes to stashing nuts away for the winter months.
We see them grabbing a nut, whole or shelled, and then hurrying off to bury it. But more often than not, just a mere arm's length away from the Goodie Bowl they found it in! Or they'll even bury it in any random place they can find - like between this owl garden statue and giant mushroom statue, seen here!
The places are usually so random it seems impossible that they'll remember where they buried those nuts in a few months. More than likely, other squirrels have happened across those nuts and eagerly snatched them up right then and there.
And don't get me started on all those nuts, and trees or vines we find in our outdoor potted plants. But on second thought, perhaps that makes more sense because they are fixed locations. LOL!

During our stay in Cape Town, we visited 2 townships. Our guide was a local volunteer, proud to tell us how he and the people who live there manage to survive and even are building a future. We walked through " the streets" and had the occasion to meet the children of a pre school project and the women who volunteered to educate them in a really nice and creative way.

I have three types of lilies in the pond. This one is the tropical lily. It does not bloom in the winter months. All winter long I was questioning the decision to try the tropical lily since the other two bloom year round. Since it has started blooming, I am no longer questioning that decision. The blooms are beautiful and adds a nice change for the warmer months. Maybe I should say hotter months. The past winder was so mild it felt more like spring than winter.
The greenery in the background is from the aquatic sensitive plant or what some call peanuts because of the shape of the little yellow flowers on that plant. The sensitive plant has long stems and is covered with those little yellow flowers. It provides a nice nursery for the mosquito fish and a home for the smallest bluegill.
Have this one noted down as 47.522 ? One of those written off years ago.Taken in very dull weather...............etc,etc.Film had it's limitations.You either had low asa film,great in full sun,or film with a higher asa for lower light.But of course unless you had two camera's with both types of film you were stuck with what you were using.To prevent a blurred front to the loco if it was travelling at speed meant taking it early,as in this case,on a dull day.That didn't always work very well as it would look a bit unbalanced if it was just the train in the landscape.However if you could have something included in front of it the shot looked more intentional.At this time at Finsbury park the box, which l believe controlled the yard,was still there.So l made use of it.lt is just possible to see a couple of DMU's on shed between the loco and the box.Narurally this has come up much better with photoshop.So the digital world has come to the aid of film.
